These retrofit videos are awesome, thank you so much! Will use them as a reference for when I do my own retrofit since the CCC finally broke down on my 06 e90 w/logic 7. Slowly piecing together all the parts!
@vysgarage hi thanks for the reply, okay i just watched the video 'a few' more times, dont ask me how many..but after doing so have come away thinking the simplest way to bypass the dab module is to unplug its in/output wires the loop/join them together with something you call a optical terminator, i guess these are simply a fiber optical loop connector as sold on amazon??? and doing so would save us having to unplug and reconet optical cables at the 5 cable junction box?...i am so so very sorry for nagging you and taking up your time, but please trust me when i say thankfully you seem to be the only one that even mentions this step during the ccc to cic upgrade anywhere on utube.
awesome video, thank you so so much for the great insights and knowledge, as a result tonight i purchase a dab+ for my 2009 x5 which has ccc with the dab ariel in the window too...BUT...can you now tell me which type of 5m dab cable i need, is it female to male or female to female, p.s i have the splitter cable too on an amazon order..cheer fella for everything, p.s those are lovely looking seats in your e90!!! very jelous
Im thinking of getting the radio and wiring from part outs but going to buy that $300 apple car play screen to go with it. So basically upgrade from ccc to cic and add apple carplay wondering if i can use all features that the cic comes with like oil reset, tpms and check control all work
Want to upgrade 2006 330i to CIC pro., as current nav system no longer functions. Currently have professional navigation system, logic 7, satellite radio, so understand from your video that I would need the Pro system, either HW40 or 31. DAB+ , want screen from 2011-13 build. No need for USB as can use Apple iPhone for maps. I have done some research but not sure if I am everything I need to replace the high-end system I had.
am io correct in thinking that programming my car's vin into the new CIC unit will rest the main menu functions of the new CIC to my cars original settings..obviously doing this is far simplier than re coding the function one by one back in to the cic via cable?
okay my 2012 cic hw40 install has giving me one issue, no dab signal, dab was working with the ccc sytem but alas no more, so i guess their a differance in my dab antenna ,so can you tell me how you worked out exactly which dab amp/reciver worked with your cic dab inbuilt tuner please..many thanks ian
Thanks for sharing this amazing work let me ask you I have a bmw e90 Ccc head unit I already replaced it with a CIC head unit working fine but I am still stock with the old CCC I drive stick and my issue is I cannot update my map with this CCC idrive controller but my question for you do you have to code the CIC idrive controller as well ? I would appreciated your feedback Thanks
Where are you based i have a bmw e90 2009 which has the cic unit, however it doesnt have DAB radio or Bluetooth. If this is something you can do please get in touch 👍
is it at all possible to simply loop the dab module with a optical loop at the module itself then jhoint the two radio antenna's together and use the original cars 5mtr optical input to the new cic unit???cheers ian
Hi, I don’t think it’s possible if I understand your question correctly. On ccc, antennas connect to the dab module which then converts radio signal into sound then sends it via fibre to the ccc unit. On cic, antennas connect directly to cic unit. You can’t use fibre to transmit radio signal.

Hi. This is an excellent video: thorough and well explained esp. the different types of CIC etc. FYI I'm in UK with a 2007 E93 325i N53 with CCC and basic sound sound system: subs under the front seats but no tweeters in the A pillars. No DAB. I do have a few questions though... 1. You showed that the existing CCC controller was working OK with the new CIC unit. What was your reason for buying the new trim, controller and adapter? Could you have just carried on with the old controller? 2. Does the CIC unit have preamp outputs so I could use an external 4-channel amplifier to drive the 2 front door speakers and the 2 under-seat subs? 3. Does the USB input - in the centre console - work the same as before? Mine doesn't work ATM and I think it's something to do with a control unit (MULF?) under the boot floor. I am wondering if the USB goes directly into the CIC in a similar way that the DAB aerial now goes into the CIC, bypassing the old unit in the boot. Thanks
Hi, 1. It wasn’t fully working, I think if you use cic controller with ccc Idrive, it works fine, but the other way around like I did, it’s not 100%. Also, cic controller is much nicer in my opinion, it has shortcut buttons and it’s backlit. 2. I’m pretty sure it doesn’t have pre outs but there’s definitely a way to connect an aftermarket amp, I’ve just not done it myself. 3. Usb in centre console runs straight to the Bluetooth module in the boot, it’s an autonomous system and it only sends sound to cic via fibre optic cable. The usb in glove box is connected to cic directly but that’s only able to do map updates and back up music from the cic hard drive.
I have a 2007 e91 325i with the wide screen CCC, I would like to upgrade to the CIC with HW40 for the DAB functionality. But my e91 doesn’t have the antennas in the side windows. Will it still work?
I got a cic to swap my ccc in april 22 never got it to work the screen would never turn on stayed black tried for 6 months no luck just gave up so been driving around with dead cic for almost 2 years now what could it be
@@vysgaragehi I just needed to know where to buy retrofit kit for 2008 Bmw 335i coupe. I was having trouble in finding a good one and have no clue as in Toronto they are like zero retrofits and they tellin me pay 4K to Bmw for same old ccc which I just changed a year ago. I just need a retrofit kit that comes with everything and I can hopefully get someone to install it and the car will finally have music back 😢
@@vysgarage thanks for replying, im tempted to buy an after market screen with car play for ccc rather than upgrade to cic and then do the car play or would you say cic is better and worth doing
@@jaybfc1991 I like my oem stuff so prefer cic. I know aftermarket head units aren’t of the best quality and car play is pretty overrated in my opinion but that’s just me 🤷🏼♂️
So I got the cic, screen and flat connector, pink cable and glovebox usb and cable. It turns on and works! Have audio but only radio as I havent coded it yet. My armrest aux doesnt work though. On the idrive i try to adjust the volume but it doesnt move. Waiting on my cable to come in so i can code it and see if that works
