Hey Nathan. Just want to say I love watching all your videos. I've been searching through your videos looking for one on a compression test. Was wondering if you knew specs. Thanks. I have a 03 e53 m62. Thanks again
E60/E61 did get that shifter as part of the LCI refresh mid way through its life. My ‘08 520d E61 Sport has an identical looking shifter to the one being retrofitted in this video :)
hey bro - just a little tip. if you put it in Neutral the knob should pull off somewhat easily. i believe that's why it gave you such a hard time. IDK if that is actual procedure but it always works for me.
Done mine and pretty straight forward, but eventhough I am an experienced mechanic /electrician I still read through the instructions that came with the shifter. Really bad installation video ,starting with the essential putting shifter in N before pulling it off.It comes off smoothly ,couldn't believe he used an object to yank it out!!He could have broken something !Bad example for anyone to follow. With regards to the wiring ,it isn't difficult as all the plugs fit best one way . Why didn't he turn the side lights on so we could see it all light up on the shifter, looks great and built in . FFS didn't he notice that when he shifted into Sport mode that the orange lit up .The rest didn't because of a bad pin connection .
ive a 5401 97 the shitter broke and it wont return to park or reverse once you go by it ,ever seen this and I`m not sure what`s broke seem internal at the shifter or maybe a return spring broke somewhere I really don`t know enough about it but its like the button on the shifter is just not engaging right its real weird left me stranded too because I couldn`t reach UNDER far enough to shift it by hand need a vid removing the enter shifter its an automatic
being that the wire harness can go either way ! Try turning it around and the parking lights may work ! BTW looks Great thinking of doing an upgrade on my M3 06!
he makes it look difficult fiest of all put the selector in nuetral it will come out no problem. a manual shift boot would look better and the reason it looks so out of place is its wood trim with a silver selector if the selector was black and sat a bit shorter on the dash it would look alot better
Hi Nathan that looks pretty cool never thought it wood my get one for myself .my alternator has gave up I think do you have a video on removing alternator from e39 2001 520I se regards Barrie
Next time you try that Nathan pull the handbrake then put into drive then press the pull it up✌🏻. P.s. love your channel if it wasn't for you I wouldn't get my 5-series going again, so BIG THANK YOU 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
I did my e91 a few months ago. Way easier! Put it in neutral squeeze the button an pull up. I also always pull my neg off my battery for being fearful and untrusting of these modern electronics.
Hey Nathan, I have an e60 with the N52 3.0 in it. Sometimes when it’s cold out the car stalls when I’m driving and the idle is very rough. Any ideas of what it could be?
Mine was doing the same thing in the cold. Once it warmed up a little the problem persisted even though it improved just a little. Almost everyone was saying it was the DISA valve. I ordered and replaced my old DISA with a new OE DISA , NOT THE CHEAPER CHINESE CRAP, and it all instantly went away. There's also a couple of DISA rebuilt kits available with German Auto Solutions having in my opinion, the best DISA rebuild kit on the market. For the past couple of days here the morning, temps have dropped down into the 30's. Now in the morning when I start her up there isn't any fuss whatsoever. No shaking, no funny vibrations, just smoooth ideling. I also got a noticeable power increase and better gas mileage. Nathan has a couple very good DISA valve videos about your exact symptoms, check them out...
Daniel Watts thanks you for the info, I’m definitely gonna look into it. Problem is that the car has no codes to go by and I don’t want to start throwing money into it lmao. I originally thought it could’ve been a problem with the CCV/PCV system but I really have no idea. Only thing I could think of having to do with the DISA valve is that I had the starter replaced recently and the whole intake manifold was removed so maybe the shop I took it to accidentally did something to the DISA valve. This definitely is useful. Thanks again
Haha, "so, ok my little baby arms.." aw man you were below the line of leverage, its ok. Im a big fan as of late. Just gon an '01 e39 and you speak the word on these cars!it may be a labor, but its a labor of love!
I have a 1998 528i Automatic, I seen how your shift stick has the P-N-D-R or whatever order it is; yours has then you have the ability to slap the stick left in manuel mode then use it to shift stick manually,. I understand your vehicle is a 2001. I would like to try and "retrofit" or cross over the 2001 shift stick system too my 1998, would I be able to basically take JUST the center console shift stick from a 01 then swap it to my 98 and use it? Or would I have to get additional parts; change or modify the transmission I just prefer the 01. PLEASE give me advice.
@@NathansBMWWorkshop and it may not be a bad deal if it's 6mt conversion. Heck, where I am f30 for 7k is somewhat cheap ( depends on mileage, of course). I'd take you up on this offer if I didn't have my hands full with b8 s4. My mistake, should have stuck with BMWs
Have the same question. I have a 1998 528i Automatic, I seen how your shift stick has the P-N-D-R or whatever order it is; you also have the ability to slap the stick left in manuel mode , then use it to shift stick manually,. I understand your vehicle is a 2001. I would like to try and "retrofit" or cross over the 2001 shift stick or whatever stick system that on this new shift stick its from. My 1998, stock set up is like P-N-D-3-2-1 stock, shifter going straight down .would I be able to basically take JUST the center console shift stick from a 01 then swap it to my 98 and use it while containing the availability 01 shift stick to left and use its manual shift. I just prefer the 01 stick settings
@@imdam-ned The GM transmission is cable operated. I believe, but am not 100% sure, that the later 5-speed transmission are electrically shifted and there is no cable connecting the shifter to the transmission.
