I have a 2011 BMW X3/F25 30d (also). On this car the two bolts/screws that holds the caliper carriers are stretch screws, and should be exchanged! Then if you do this job always yourself, I can't see the reason to connect the wear warner, because it warns when about half of the pad is left. Here in Sweden the big problem at least at the rear axle is deep rust on the rotors that means the rotors are bad but not worn out that mean it's no big problem if the pads are completely worn out as you have to exchange the rotors anyway. But if you want to make a 5,000 km trip, and some German Autobahn driving then I hope you think in an other way! I visited the WRC rally in "northern" Sweden a week ago. What is the use of perfect brakes when almost nothing happens when you press the brake pedal. You only hear the sound from the spikes on ice covered asphalt... Maybe it's time to reduce the speed a little bit on the "E4" highway... In the the wintertime you can expect anything on long journeys (in Sweden/Nordic countries).

Hi George. Thanks for the video. Are those sliding caliper bolts 100% 8mm Hex? I watched someone else doing this job and he said 7mm. Just need to order one so I want to get it right. My car is 116d F20 2016

These were 8mm but all my E chassis cars have been 7mm

Excellent video Btw @george do you know if the engines in the 2 series 218d 220d circa 2014-2016 including the gearbox / clutch are reliable? Have you come across any of them?. Looking to possible go from an e82 m sport 2010 to a 2 series but not sure yet. Seen some adverts relating to timing chain replaced at what seems like low milage 50-60k)

Just an addition for the next video. If people are watching this to learn to do brakes themselves, I advise you tell them to seat their pads against the rotor disk prior to moving the vehicle. Nothing worse than hoping into a car that has pads that need seated and finding out as you are pulling into the street and feeling the pedal go to the floor because it wasn’t done as part of the brake job.

How much copper grease 😱 you meant to use a very thin layer of ceramic paste and certainly not all over the hub 😮

I always apply a thin layer to the hub, stops the disc from seizing on

Another good video , those little screws that retain the discs are known for searing and they have to be drilled out and that can be a task in itself. Have thought about having a canopy while you are waiting for the garage they are not expensive and are easily erected and dismantled so you wont have to leave it up all the time. When you get the garage built you you can use it the garden for hosting your garden parties.

I have the carport if I need to work under cover but its pretty tight under there to get at the sides.. I wouldn't fancy putting something up on the front drive
