If it’s prewired do you still need to code it ? What happed if we don’t code it? I am changing the whole same steering wheel except the new one has a paddle shifters and my car is already prewired!!! Please help me here. Or anyone ? Thank you.
@@jeorude33 If I remember correctly, if you have the sport gearbox mode active (you have the "sport +" option in driving modes), you don't need to code anything. Otherwise, you will probably need coding. Connecting the steering wheel, even when the paddles are not coded, will not damage anything. Unfortunately, I do not remember if after connecting paddle shifters, which are not coded, there are any errors on the on-board computer or in the diagnostic computer only - there may be an error, but also possible that, there is no error ( it's all about comfort - no one likes to have errors on the dashboard). In any case, you can code the paddle shifters later, you don't have to do it right away, then all possible errors disappear.
Thank you! Such detailed information! not like those vloggers and famous shops who says things rapidly but hard to reach for us beginners thanks for the shoutout and a user-non mechanic friendly info.
Hi, got a question, if i check on the passenger side that the car is prewired do i still need to check it in the steering wheel? Since the car is prewired should t it be prewired in the steering wheel too?
Hi, that's a good assumption. If your front electrical module on the passenger foot well is prewired then it should be prewired on the steering column switch cluster. I listed it as a recommendation just so you know for sure before spending the money on the paddles. Page 5 of the link below has a wiring diagram of the paddle shifters. www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=s3.amazonaws.com/fcp-pdf-files/DIY%2BPaddle%2BShifters%2BBMW%2BF30%2BRev.%2B3L.pdf&ved=2ahUKEwiYxMfFsofuAhXDt1kKHTWQCtoQFjAXegQILRAB&usg=AOvVaw0f2hRNRRYrikKY2ol1bpfN
Hi, I have the same steering wheel as that and I also want to put the paddle shift on mine, but you've confused me abit, why did you change the steering wheel
Hi, I bought the steering wheel with the paddle shifters from a local guy but when I tried to test fit it to my car it didn't fit the steering wheel column, it was too big. This is why I had to take the paddles off of it and modified my original steering wheel to properly install the paddle shifters.
Yes that is correct you can still retrofit your paddle shifter to your existing steering wheel. You will need a diffrent back plate or you could cut the wholes required to fit.

I Bought the steering wheel off a local guy for $150 usd. The guy didnt know what car the steering wheel was for. So i got lucky you can say. They usually goes for 800-1000 new online.
Hello dear friend I have a3 8p 3 spoke steering wheel without shift option How can i add shiffters to the steering wheel and make it works ? Do o need to connect the shiffters to the gear box ? Thanks dear friend
This is for a 2012-2019 f30 BMW 3 series. Looks like you are mentioning a 2003-2013 Audi A3 8P, correct? In that case not sure how the wiring works but did some diging and found these links for you. Sorry for the late reply. Hope it helps and thanks for watching. www.audiworld.com/forums/audi-a3-s3-rs-3-mkii-209/happy-report-successful-retrofitting-sport-paddle-2881798/#post24675386
Sorry about that. I sped up that part of the video since I just transferred everything over to the original steering wheel. RU-vid does have a feature to set the playback speed slower, I suggest 0.5x. I also posted the DYI retrofit document in the description. The paddle shifter wire should be the short wire for the left paddle and the long one for the right paddle. They should be plug and play as the connector to the paddle shifters are different from the steering wheel controls . Thanks 😊.
