SUCCESS!!! Finally! Everyone else including the distributor needs to delete their tutorials. Others don't tell you to pair the remote before you pair with the main unit. Thanks!
Wow. It took me 2 hours of failed attempts with other videos. This video explains it perfectly with syncing the remote followed by the garage opener head unit. Thanks!
Agree with top comment. Other videos aren't clear enough about this being a multiple step process. This video is better than the dealership ones. Thanks Chuck
Best video I’ve found, one that actually works. Other videos make it seem like the two steps are separate but they need to be done together like you described. These same instructions worked for my 2016 435i. Thank you!
This is the best by far of all the BMW garage door opener videos. One minor point; ensure that ignition remains on when leaving car to push the learn button on the opener unit or press ignition on again.
I just picked my 2022 M440i Gran Coupe, and could not get my garage door connected to the car. I watched several videos on RU-vid, even a BMW tutorial. This video made it super simple, and it worked on the first try. Thanks!
Thanks for this! I couldn’t figure out why my home light wasn’t on when I was trying to link it with the remote. It worked to reset it while the car was off but needed to be running to link the existing remote. This comment saved me!
I totally agree with all the comments that this is the BEST video explaining how to program the car remote. I tried for way too long following the other videos and they all left out critical steps. I can't thank you enough for making it very, very clear. The part that's critical that the other videos leave out is that a) you first pair the car remote to the garage remote, then b) pair the car remote to the actual opener using the Learn button. As soon as I tried what you instructed, boom, it worked. Thank you!
This is the only video that actually works for my 2018 5 series and 2024 M8. Just one thing, the engine has to be running during the whole process. I spent almost 3 hours went back and forth following the other videos, almost wanted to give up, until I saw this. Thank you so much!
Litterly watched about 6 bmw/ Generic Garage door videos period. This was the only one that was actually helpful.I never comment on videos.I just wanted to say thank you!! 🎉🎉🎉
This was helpful for me. The only caveat for my ‘21 X5, I had to have the vehicle turned on; it was not wanting to reset nor program anything in accessories.
Thank you for creating this video! Out of all the others out there including the one from BMW, this is the best one I found and works! There’s one step that all the other videos do not explain.
Awesome!! We tried more than 100 times!! You are the only one who combined remove and the learning button and solved the issue!! Thank you!!! Can't thank you enough!!
I saw other videos show to only press the Learn button on the main garage door motor, then press the mirror button twice to program it. Will this not work?
`This is great, however what happens when you cannot enter the house from the garage? i mean the car is not connected to my house? and you have to enter the garage through the garage door?
I don’t have a remote any longer. I have tried hitting the learn button then push the homelink. Does not pair. Any suggestions for pairing. Older model lift master, maybe 20 yrs old. Previous BMW paired no issues. I now have a 2021 330i. Thanks
Great video! Following your steps, I got my HomeLink buttons to work and I did the same steps on my husband's Ford Ranger pick-up that also has HomeLink. Now we can both put our garage door remotes away. Thanks!
Thanks, this worked for me- but only if the car was running (2019 X3). Tried it numerous times in "standby mode" as per the car manual and all other videos. As a last resort I tried it while car was running and it that did the trick. Seems like the power to the mirror was turning off in less than 30 seconds of entering standby mode and unable to capture the codes.
For the life of me I can’t get my E92 335is HomeLink to pair with my Liftmaster MyQ. I can clear the codes from the E92 mirror, but every time I try holding the mirror button #1 at the same time as the remote button, I never get the fast green blinks on the mirror. I’ve tried skipping waiting for the blinks, then pressing the learn button on the ceiling opener, then pressing the mirror button again, but no go. Any other ideas? I have tried like 5 times already with no luck, and with varying distance/angles between the remote and the mirror. And to make it even trickier I’ve noticed if I hold the button on the remote too long, it also clears the remote, so I have to re-pair the remote to the opener too. Pain in the nuts
The very good video footage commensurate with a clear explanation made this much easier for me to program successfully. And on the first try!!! Excellent presentation. Just remember that after the initial, in the programming BMW vehicle's rear view mirror (the 3 bottom buttons, within the mirror's glass green and amber/orange light indicators) with handheld remote in STEP 1, and then in STEP 2, pressing the garage's electric motor unit "learn button" (some are red/orange colored). At least on they are on the somewhat older Liftmaster 2500's). QUICKLY get back into your BMW vehicle (you have about 20 - 30 secs. to do this), and then press the desired rear view mirror button (any of the 3) at least TWICE separately to get the desired action of the garage door. Rapidly blinking green. Voila! It should be successful.
Great video. Got my X3 opener working after I could not. I made the mistake of "reading the manual". It is very poorly and incorrectly written. The manual implies that to program for older (non rolling code) openers, use your remote. For newer (rolling code) openers, use the learn button on the opener. It NEVER says you need to do BOTH for the rolling code. Also, almost NO ONE has a non rolling code opener any more. I think they stopped making them in 1996.
How do I reprogram one of the bottoms openers in my car? I explain I have two garages, and I replace one of the motor unit so, I would like to replace the code without erasing the other one
After numerous searches and attempts, I was hopeful this one would help based on all the positive comments. I have a 2007 E90. It has the homelink -I think- as evident by the three buttons on the rearview mirror. I have cleared the codes successfully. I cannot get past 2:10 where you talk about the LED blinking fast once it has learned the transmitter code. I have a genie garage door opener with Homelink. Any ideas on that? Is it possible my 2007 is too old to be Homelink compatible? Much appreciated!
When I programmed my 2021 X5, I didn't have to press the learn button on either of the openers. Not sure what makes the difference, but that method isn't working for my husband's 2021 M240. Must have different Homelink versions?
@@bmwblog your video as well as all the others I watched are very informative and easy to do. HOWEVER, my problem is that my Homelink itself inside my BMW X5, under the rearview mirror, doesn't blink At All when pressing the buttons to try to program it.
This didn’t work at all on my 22 M3. The car needs to be on to reset and then initialize initial connection to my remote. After that, with the car on, I ran in and hit my learn button, then came back out and hit the same homelink button again. That worked. Another thing is you hit the garage opener twice in your first phase. That’s confusing. Touch and hood home link first THEN touch and hold your garage opener button.
Gotta wonder why this is still such a royal pain in the arse to do w all this car tech. Also amazes me that garage door tech hasn’t changed at all in the past 25 years 😮
This installation was the moment for me where i realized engineers should be forced to actually try the fucking features they build before calling them completed. I swear to god bmw/genie but the dumbest engineers they could possibly find on this project.
