damn i can watch this video eyerytime again and fall one more time absolutely in love with this m3. by the way since i was born i live in germany near the Nürburgring Nordschleife and now i´m 27 years old so i have seen and heard soo many e46 m3 but not a single one sounds that awesome
The wing and splitter are 100% functional on this car. This isn't a car you'd see piddling along at 30 mph in traffic - it's a dedicated track car, and these things are necessary to maintain traction during high speed maneuvering. If you took the splitter off, the front end would skate around a lot more - and if you took the wing off, the back end might break loose in the turns. I agree that the hood and trunk should be painted, but not everyone likes painting carbon fibre.
Just a single dixis muffler mate. They had to change to a single exhaust to allow them space for the a better diffuser. The diffuser from the standard CSL was replaced with a better diffuser to help with high speed downforce.
you couldn't be more wrong. I'm not trying to come off as rude, but at the speeds that car is going, it is ABSOLUTELY helping. IIRC, it delivers 120+ lbf of downforce at just 60 mph. Combined with the front splitter, that makes it stick like glue. If you analyze how air flows over the rear end of that car, you'll understand why it's so high. Trust me, on a car like this, if it wasn't functional, it wouldn't be there.
You can buy the CSL airbox which really adds to the m3, both in power and sound. A new exhaust would help too, but I'm not sure which exhaust is closest without buying the real deal...
you can get CSL parts for any M3... they just come at a premium cost. many guys buy authentic parts, but they are very hard to come by, and they are expensive as hell.. as for the exhaust, it is completely custom, as even with the CSL it comes standard with a quad system. if you notice in the beginning of the vid, it has a single pipe coming out of the rear... in my opinion, stick with eisenmann, borla, or a more practical manufacturer
Because it's a track focused car. Who cares what your exhaust looks like? A single exhaust like that is probably much much lighter than any kind of twin exit exhaust. And less weight is always good.
i'm pretty sure it has a larger cam, so that might be why it sounds like that. it actually almost sounded like my friends 3.1L inline 6 stroker in his 280Z. lots of cam is my guess
looks amazing the only thing that ruins it is that rice muffler on the back. it sounds good and it looks like a dtm car but all dtm cars have that quad pipe look on the back. other than that though that car is so sexy
Pipes-schmipes. Quad pipes are marketing/show to distinguish the M cars from their non-M versions. Steve Dinan is one of the premier BMW tuners and his M3 exhaust only uses one side. The other side has dummy outlets simply to match the rear valance. Don't get me wrong, I'm an E46 owner myself.
I like the exhaust sound. Nice, tight racing exhaust. Not a Japanese/rice thing at all. Search on "Sweet sounding M3" for a clip of an E36 at Gingerman (Michigan). I've also seen him run at Grattan. Fast! And he ain't no ricer. Also try searching on "watkins glen e36 m3". What a similar car sounds like from the inside.
... nice car, but if you wanted to add the wing on the back for downforce, then you really should have fixed it onto the cars main stucture and not onto the boot. It just kinda pushes down the bootlid-lip before it does give you real downforce (if the bootlid is strenghened and welded to the rest of the car -> forget what i just said). I love it when wannabe "classy" people tell serious trackers to lose their rear wings or front splitters... Fuck off and keep your BMW like every other BMW in the country... This is something that will grab my attention on the streets and make me do a triple-take... All the while keeping everything functional. Function and beauty going hand-in-hand is the pinnacle of car-modding.
The engine sounds lumpy like it could do with a careful remap, the engine note is awesome but can't help feeling it could do with remapping to smooth it out. engine note like power come in, in steps and lumps, which i dont believe an m3 does.
They didn't detune the car. Class E1 is intended for ex-works cars like the M3 GTR or the DTM/V8STAR cars. Schnitzer used the ALMS BMW M3 GTR driven by a 4 litre V8. They just had to put silencers in as the limit is 102db(A) for class E1 and A8 (GT3 RS etc.) The car in the video is a normal M3 build up for racing, but it's driven by the 3.2 litre inline 6. If you don't hear the difference you know nothing about BMW and racing

except that that was the only place they could catch the air beacause of the steep windshield and that thing was big enough to be a plane! and f series doesnt use wings!!!! those are strtiegically placed and the car would fall apart at the speeds like aplane! but this car doesnt even come close to the speed of any type of vehicle you mentioned
No it comes N/A From the factory same as a normal M3, the Only M Series cars to use forced induction are the new M series X6 ANd X5 That have a Twin trubo V8 that will be used in the next M5

deisderatum u dont have an M3. Cuz if u did u wud know that's CSL M3 and it's parts are restricted only to the CSL. It's impossible to get them for a regular M3.
@drumdone just out of curiousity wouldn't that add more lower centre of gravity on the car? and also add power? but considering the power:weight ratio it probably wouldn't do good...
