you all prolly dont give a shit but does anybody know of a method to log back into an instagram account? I somehow forgot the account password. I love any tips you can give me!
@Donald Kendall thanks for your reply. I found the site through google and I'm trying it out atm. Looks like it's gonna take quite some time so I will reply here later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
One thing not mentioned is that when in D for example, when you move to Sequential Shift Mode (or manual), the car will continue to stay in manual mode until you physically push the shift lever rightwards to bring it back to D. Also, anytime you use the +/- (stalk or paddles) the car automatically goes into manual mode and stays in manual mode until it is physically taken out of manual mode. I actually love the DCT when used with the +/- function on the stalk. Not so much using the paddles.
VAE Tech I agree, the shifter gives you the best of both worlds. You do have to be aware when you have it in manual mode. It will downshift by itself as you slow down but it won’t upshift until you initiate it.
When you switch off your DCT M car in neutral which activates the fault message, you don't have to restart the engine to put the gear to D/R, you just need to press the "start/stop" button again with foot off any pedal. The car will automatically engage Park.
The DCT is designed to resemble a manual because BMWs are for driving fanatics and the way you park a manual is leave it in gear so the DCT tries to resemble that so truning the engine off in D or R makes the car go in Park
Will never forget the utter confusion I had when I drove a M4 for the first time and tried to turn it off. Even the dealer I went on the test drive with had to go back inside and get someone to come out and turn it off after we did the drive 😂
To clarify, the three gear change settings effect what gear it holds for a given speed in auto, kickdown and very slightly but not much on the shift up if at full throttle as that is always maximum acceleration in any auto settings. The same three settings also effect the quickness and therefore harshness of manual shifts when paddle shifting as it does to slightly improved the maximum acceleration in D2 and D3 automatic mode. Care need be taken to not accidentally engage manual from automatic with an unintended press of ether paddle when driving this DCT.
@@ECPP can I ask you somenthing but me english is not so good..My question is when you put it the transsmision to manual mode and change the gear with upshift and downshift is that a possible with downshift to change the gear 1 to neutral while driving and do some revs?? I hope you understand my question 🙂
You dont have to do all that to park the car. You can leave it in almost any gear and the car will automatically go into Park once you turn the car off by pressing the on/off switch twice, pull up the e brake and lock the doors. I do it daily.
...wow...took this long to finally find a video like this...seen a few BMW's with the Manual looking gearboxes and i figured they were manual and not DTC
Thanks you for you video. I just bought a x6m and I keep getting that error when putting in park. I couldn't figure out how I put it in park the couple times I did it. Thank you. Now I got it lol. Damn luxury cars lol.
I've driven manual cars my whole life. I'm 60 now. I love the DCT in my M4.. it shifts way faster than I can. The manual is coming back though, so all of the whiners can get one now. But it will be slower.
The "complexity", if you will, is not so much due to the transmission design, but due to the fact the instructions in the owner's manual are poorly worded and laid out. At least for the manual for the M2.
It's pretty much driving a AT in manual shift mode all the time, doesnt seem hard at all. But a actual MT sounds more fun but this would be better in traffic then shift with a MT
I'm glad I went the the 6 speed manual in my M4. This DCT is just too complex. There is a LOT that can go wrong and leave you stuck and in need of a tow.
Well, I do own one, but it took me much more than a minute to figure out, I'll admit shamelessly. But I'm bit OCD with cars, so I thought the "proper" way was to go to N, push button, apply hand brake, and then push button a second time. And I thought, sheesh, this is kind of cumbersome!
The reason why you could not lock the car at 2:53 is not because you didn't set it in the 'P' possition. It does that because the carkey is INSIDE the car. It never locks the car when the key is inside anywhere in the car even the trunk.
As a life long manual driver this all seems very complicated and confusing. Once it's in manual mode will it sometimes take over and try to over ride you sometimes or second guess what you want to do? Also I would have thought pulling back should shift down and pushing forward should shift up - can you change it? Are autos much less annoying in traffic jams? What is the procedure for using one in traffic jams?
In full manual mode it will downshift to stop you stalling but it won't upshift if you redline it - you have full control there. Also, having the lever back for upshifts and forward for downshifts is the race car layout (Porsche do it too). It follows the natural rhythm of the car's motion; towards the motion of acceleration when upshifting (pushing you into your seat) and deceleration when downshifting. These are the things that set a proper sports car apart from comfort cars like Mercedes or Audi. In traffic jams you apply the brake pedal and the car will stop, and you shift to neutral in one quick & easy motion of the lever if you don't wanna stand on the brakes whilst waiting, and back again for auto or manual when setting off. A hair of throttle is necessary to get going again, DCTs don't automatically "creep" like a slushbox auto. One thing Mercedes gets right is the "hold" function on their conventional automatics, which lets you release the brake pedal but the brakes stay applied (brake lights dim to not blind cars behind) until you feather the throttle, whereupon the car will crawl forward as long as you lightly hold the throttle and automatically brake again when you come off the pedal. I got used to it in an hour or so coming from only manual cars my whole life.
@@visionist7 My 2016 530d also does that, with the 8 speed ZF transmission, it has auto-hold. if selected, when you brake to a halt it will automatically keep the brake applied until you touch the throttle to move again, works well with the starty stoppy engine thing if you so desire as well. Or you can turn auto-hold off and have the car creep whenever you release the brake as is normal for a torque converter box.
Bob Alto you change between comfort/sport/sport plus by pressing the 3 buttons (drivetrain, suspension, steering) that are located on the forward driver side of the center console.
@@ECPP Wow. That's actually pretty incredible. I understood the basics of the DCT transmission but I didn't realize it had the full capability of driving in full on automatic. Always had the fear that if I were to move on to an M car from my 340, i'd be hard pressed to drive stick. Definitely want to learn but at least I know that I can move to this car in the future with the auto there to at least help me out. Thanks!
Hi, great video, very interesting. I recently got an M4 DKG. Is it normal that when slowing down at low rpm it jumps a little every now and then? A thousand thanks
The speed settings on the gear have any role on manual shift mode or no? Because if you go to M button it has d1 d2 d3 for auto mode and s1 s2 and s3 for manual mode. What's the purpose of this if it's in manual mode?
I'll never own a dual clutch car until they decided to put an actual clutch pedal for sport mode bc it's not a real manual mode unless it has a clutch pedal
john the shift points depends on the rps the highest u put it to ( which is the 3 lines ) the faster the car will go in each gear because it will get the most out of that gear because it will only switch to the next gear when it’s used about the maximum capacity right before it red lines.
Ayo guys. I have got a question. Never had a real m car , about to get an m2 comp finally. So the question is , if I am in the manual mode locked in 2d gear and push it to the rpm limit , is it gonna up shift by itself or still stay in 2g gear unless I upshift it with either paddles or shifter ?
@@ECPP thanks for the response. Then how do people drift locked in 2gear so it doesn’t upshift by itself and doesn’t fuck up the slide by going to the 3rd gear when not needed ?
@@ECPP sorry to bother you. One more question. Does the dct in m2 comp allows you to apply gas to drive forward while still rolling backwards ? Like with a real manual transmission, you can put the first gear and apply some power to drive out right after switching from the reverse and moving backwards
@@olexanaxx it’ll shift based on your throttle so you can control the throttle while do donuts or you can go into manual mode and stay in 1st gear….to answer your rolling question, sometimes my M4 rolls back a TINY bit when on an incline at a light but its rare, but you can drive in manual with the paddle shifters, or manual with the transmission lever or auto where the car will shift itself….hopefully you got your M2 now !
@@ECPP i get it is dual clutch...my learning on why it is complicated and has no P like auto transmission. Still need to figure out how to park with engine running ...
when you're in Manual mode, does the brake act as the clutch in manual transmissions? so you need to ease into the gas while slowly removing your foot from the brake?
I just go a 2016 M4 with DCT. When the car stops it does not crawl forward like a normal automatic. This could be a problem when parking. Am I missing something?
To creep forward you just need to give the gas a very slight tap. There's no need to stay on the throttle, just give it that tap. It'll maintain a relatively slow creep forward (or backwards if you're in reverse of course) just like an automatic until you come to a full stop again or give it more gas to start moving faster. Be aware that on a cold start when the engine is revving higher that creep can be surprisingly fast if you're not ready for it.
Excellent advice by tangent 360, you will need to be careful on inclines and declines as well. The dct will hold your position for 2 secs and then will roll. Unlike a torque converter transmission that holds you in place. There is a learning curve to the dct but well worth it in performance.
@@ECPP I get it, I mean it's not complicated once you know how, and thanks for the video but I can't understand why BMW bothered. Volkswagen for example use dual clutch boxes as well but they have a P mode on the shifter. I can't understand why BMW didn't bother to do that.
