@Mr Sir you never go 0-100... it's usually 0-50, or 50-90, or 90 to 140(or whatever you highway speed limit is), or 50-140. or 30-40 to 90-140 whem joining the lane Not once do you have to go 0 to 100. Maybe 0 to 140 if you are on a gas station on the highway.
The 997 Turbo S did a 10.9 in the video with all the 911’s racing compared to 11.2 here and I’m fairly sure in the past the normal M5 Competition did something like an 11.1 I believe On another note, the 997 Turbo and Turbo S really do hold their own for the age even compared with modern stuff. It’s insane how well Porsches make use of their power.
@@jordanclarkson2010The 997 Turbo S is a wonderful machine, imagine driving it 10y ago - basically all the AMGs, Ms, RS models were way slower. Love that Porsche
@@purwantiallan5089 They really don’t. Not the old ones and not the new ones. They’re just really good a putting power down on the wheels when compared to other cars. Even in this race the Porsche has less horsepower and less torque than the BMW
@@MrSandChess It also has less wheight and the difference in torque is negletable, power to weight ratio, do the math and they will be around the same, not that hard to understand.
Hey! We all wanna an ultimate V10 drag race! BMW M6, Audi RS6, Dodge Viper, Porsche Carrera GT, Lexus LFA, 1st gen of Audi R8 and Lamborghini Gallardo. And for fun would be great Touareg V10 TDI. 😂
power to weight ratio is what got that porsche, 0.33 hp per kg to .35 hp per kg on the CS. 2 different categories though, a 4 door vs a 2 door, I'm sure that porsche would take the upper hand on a track vs straight line speed. Good video
Not really you're just a porsche fanboy the M5 is a heavy sedan with aerodynamics of a brick at higher speeds the porsche is lighter and better aerodynamically.
@@Mr_Glenn It just like saying "It is amaizing that a 20 year old Ferrari Enzo can keep up with today sports car" ofc it can because it is lighter and a sports car comparing to a family sedan which is 300kg heavier. Year of the car doesnt matter whene the performance it is good
@@Mr_Glenn A sports car vs a sedan lol fix up will ya and I'm definitely not salty over a vehicle I don't discriminate if a cars good I give it its dues in this case all I'm seeing is fangirling lol
@@sancho2112 brother that's just stupid a ferrari enzo can't even compete with a high end performance sedan (for example model s ludicrous, or m5 cs) also the m5 cs is anything but a family friendly sedan its practically a supercar with 4 doors and chairs also new technology>>>weight in acceleration figures
That 997 is older, but it still delivers :) As expected from Porsche ~~ And that M5 CS, we don't even need to talk about how much of a beast that car is from BMW~ Just the way that ZF 8-speed shifts in the BMW and how it can deliver that power is insane~
997.2 Turbo S is so visceral. Launching one for the first time scared me and that was after driving multiple 991's thinking those were fast. 997 feeling is unmatched.
That’s very true! I owned a 997.2 turbo S and now a 991.2 turbo S - the 997.2 is in fact the slower car but the „balance“ of the turbo S coming with a slight delay gives you really this kick. The 991.2 is way more linear and therefore feels less kicking your a** . Even tough its accelerates absolutely brutal when you see the sheer numbers
From my perspective, 911's (whatever generation and version you choose) are by far the most well achieved car in a wide scope of parameters. Ok is a sport car, right. Can not be compared to a Fiat Panda, ok right we all know that. But still overall the crazy amount of "spot on 9or10 out of 10" evaluations are undeniable, in my humble opinion which makes it one if not the the most well achieved car in the automotive industry. Any thoughts on this from other users? Cheers!
Thats for me the weakness the last 20 years. Too much machine, not enough soul. 964 or 993 for me. Today more Maserati, Ferrari, Aston or Benz GT. Maybe Corvette or GTR. More emotions, more individualism.
For the 1st time ever, i dunno what to appreciate more, the modern day super sedan being able to beat a high end sports car from a decade ago, or a decade old sports car showing it can still sorta keep up with the latest super sedan. Love both brands tho and love carwow for making such awesome content.
One of the most impressive things always , is the way those suction pads hold on !! Think back not so long and your suction mirror fell off as soon as the sun shone !! Now 150mph + and it's still there !!
Like all drag races, first and most important thing is power to weight ratio, since the BMW is in a clear disadvantage with 300 more kilograms, but it's more powerful. Then comes traction, gearing and aerodynamics, wich you can see are very good in both cars. That was a close and interesting race. Thank you for these kind of videos!
Porsche really was ahead of their time with the 911 Turbo S, especially within this 997, which is still a beast to this day. I mean that flat 6 engine from the company is no joke.
dude we know how fast the bmw but it won over 10 years old car with less power and way cheaper in these days and yet the porsche handle it very well considering the gap
I almost bought that 997 Turbo 7 years ago. Amazing how well it has held value. Performance today is still fantastic. at half the price of the BMW, it is a no brainer. Get the Porsche and a minivan if you need the extra space .
I love the unique eyes like headlight design of Porsche cars and the unique 2 grill design of BMW cars! The way how Porsche and BMW cars perform is insane! I love Porsche and BMW cars!
I would be really interested to see the difference in performance between an M5 fully loaded with five (large) passengers versus and M5 with just the driver
I’ll who remembers that turbo’s review on top gear back in the late noughties? When Jeremy talks about the flexible of engine? One second to get to 40 to 60mph! The car was a monster!
I am genuinely amazed by this result. I was convinced that the BMW being so much newer, more powerful, new gearbox etc. would absolutely WASTE the 911.
@@iohanncenturion9343 240kg* that's definitely not "almost 300kg" 😂😂 And weight isn't a problem when you have the power to move it. That said the bmw has a better power to weight ratio, more gears, newer technology, better tires, longer wheelbase, not used etc etc. The only advantage the Porsche has is a rear mounted engine, but it only helps during the launch or if it is rwd.
yeah porka did well, but at end of day the bmw, although newer, is still a big 4 seat 4 door saloon car with boot space etc, so its pretty nuts, in other videos it runs 10,5 quart miles.
@@arc_sa8292 It's smoking the M5 easy, the 991.1 Turbo S however is a bit faster than the 997 so that would be a good race for sure. The "problem" is a 991.2 have 650hp, 977 and 991.1 have similar power with 530 vs 550hp, improved pdk and a few horses do alot.
I think in the specs, though you said, it is a flat six, the Editors wrote i6 wich is not completely wrong, but i would say, f6 would be a better shortening
No it would not. The CS do a 10.5 and the 992 Turbo S 10.2. Something wrong on this video. So the difference is not too far off. A simple ECU and cheap tune with all tock part on the M5 CS would absolutely destroy the 992 in every way possible.
Porsche cars have there unique design, insane performance and insane brakes! Company's founder Ferdinand Porsche is a legend in the automobile world. Hybrid cars won't be there if Ferdinand Porsche didn't invent them. He's my hero. That's why I love Porsche cars!
Hybrid 1901 and Electric in 1897, not only cars, busses, and trucks as well. The main difference is that Elon Musk added a chip & Lithium battery; nevertheless, the entire principle was indeed from Ferdinand Porsche, an electrical and mechanical engineer, and finder of Porsche.
@@Toyota4Life Toyota got smashed by NIssan in the official SGT recently. What do you feel now as a Toyota fanboy ? Are you on those who say that the new BMZupra is better than the 400Z ? Because Toyota fangirls are all the same. I have a friend IRL like that.
Matthew there was a kind of way you used to review cars back 2018 to 2019 absolutely nice video back then today drag race to drag race there is a new BMW 3 series facelift yet we have not seen it just keep the theme to find new cars coming to market
Fantastic race. It would have been a different ball game had a 991 Turbo S raced. Maybe M5 Competition would of been a more fair car to pit against the older car.
I can appreciate why people like the M5 but at the end of the day one of these cars is a 5 series with a V8 and the other is a version of the best sports car ever made🤷🏼
Without a doubt one can say that the M5 CS would win as it's the most potent BMW ever and also the Turbo S used here is one generation older, thereby being less promising.
@@leogro4458 yeah what you're saying is true but also you need to look upon the fact that people associate the name 'Turbo S' with invincibility but here when you get to know that it's not the current Turbo S but an older one and that too it is pitted against the M5 CS, you're safe to say that the M5 is going to win for it's the most powerful BMW ever made.
@@jacquincedras yup.. 👍🏼 tha ka for the correction. I remember seeing this very model of Turbo S, driven by Jeremy Clarkson, being pitted against a Ferrari in one of the Top Gear episodes.
yeah, that's true what you're saying but also we need to look at the fact that people associate the name 'Turbo S' with invincibility. But the moment you get to see that it's an older generation Turbo S, you're assured that the M5 CS, which is the most powerful BMW ever, will win without a doubt.
There was a time in my life where I thought, man I’d never be able to afford that Ferrari, Lamborghini or Porsche. Didn’t think I’d ever say it about a family Saloon BMW. 140k…
Clean sweep! The M5 CS is arguably the greatest internal combustion super saloon ever produced. I don't think there will be any other to knock it off its throne since the EVs are coming.
They make 2 seat cars that weigh nothing. BMW, Mercedes can do this as well. Infact the new S58 is more than likely more potent than any porsche engine. There is a supra with just the B58 doing 1/4 mile in 8.3s.
The first race was unfair. The BMW jumped the start and it would have been much closer if they started at the same time. Surprised they didn't do best of 3 considering. This channel is BMWWow, far too many bloody BMW's in the drag races.
