The n43 oil pressure too low problem was clearly a massive worldwide issue if we look at the hundreds of people who I have helped with the first video. As always I am never satisfied until I find as many root causes as possible and the n43 oil pressure control valve replacement, although it works for some, for others the problems come back.
In this video I make a surprising discovery that will help more of you long term.
Thank you for watching and dont forget to subscribe

Thank god yep 😃 If it ever does we all know what to do - subframe down and off with the sump.

Same here. Replaced the valve a good few years back now and the problem hasn’t returned yet. However, I do plan to drop the sump and check this when I do the timing chain.

Always a nightmare when you get these engines in with oil pressure issues. Never noticed this before though, cheers for the video Ben

I have 2008 318i, where low oil pressure warning light comes on after slowing down to idle after about 20/30 mins drving. Clears when engine switches off but then comes back, could this be the cause of those symptoms ?

Exact same problem on my 2007 320i, the motor seems to be running fine but this light turns on if I leave the car on idle and then disappears after engine is off for a few minutes only to come back after driving for a while and coming to a stop/idle

You can buy a brand new sump for £73 from autodoc - its Ridex so not valco which is what they normally use for OEM but ought to be a better option than trying to sand and clean the oem one. Ive just done a full rebuild on my n43 after timing chain pieces blocked the pickup (normally the massive issue with N43) and starved the big ends of oi destroying bearings and crankl . its been completely stripped right down, cleaned and all the oil galleries flushed etc etc. new rings, crank, bearings, stem seals the works. Put it back together and just been running in. Did about 15-20 mins driving and it was spot on - so nice to get the car back after been on axel stands for months (2 years lol) as a side project. anyway was sat idlign at a roundabout and PING oil pressure warning. Gutted is an understatement. Im wondering if it could be the oil pressure solenoid... dont want to even think about it being anything else after all the work ive done. Need to whack inpa on and see what its reporting.

Change that shitty sump then put some engine flush in, get it hot, change oil and filter and put a new oil pressure control valve in. Sump is causing mostly all of this.

@@allmech_BMW_fault_finding mine was in pretty good condition and i didnt have any crap / swarf in the solenoids. Just the goddam chain guide in the pickup.... Next stop oil solenoid before i do anything drastic. Going to whip it out, check operation which i forgot to do when i cleaned it.

i was forced to buy new oil sump (400€) as in my case it was rusting from outside - didnt checked inside so detailed tho, still have that old oil sump so might check it later.Dont understand how it rust when its 24/7 in oil. Thank you a lot!

Looks like a nice little side line for someone to set up vapour blasting and powder painting sump covers, maybe offering service exchange!

Interesting... My guess is that there was a lot of moisture in the oil from short distance driving and any time the car sat still for a while, the oil separated to the top and moisture to the bottom, causing the surface to rust. But, that's just a theory:)

Very possible indeed. This is the one from the video where I scoped the timing after the injectors had caused the crank hub sprocket to slip. Someone just asked me about an aluminium sump but I suggested galvanised the inside and powder coating the outer. Bare metal but protected against rust would be great
@_moon_eyes
@_moon_eyes 5 месяцев назад
Do you know if anyone does an aluminium sump for n43 320i 170bhp? Thanks for you videos on this, I'm currently suffering with the low oil pressure code. I don't think this is an isolated problem, if you look at second hand sumps for sale most of them have rust at least starting to appear inside.
@allmech_BMW_fault_finding
@allmech_BMW_fault_finding 5 месяцев назад
I dont think so pal. But one option could be to get one bead blasted then get it galvanised at least internally. If this is possible perhaps the outside could be powder coated and the inside left bare metal yet galvanised. Look into it let me know if it was possible.

How woukd i check if this is the issue i have? I cant take the oil sumo off because it sits right ontop of the axle
@allmech_BMW_fault_finding
@allmech_BMW_fault_finding 5 месяцев назад
You cant unless you lower the subframe.

@@allmech_BMW_fault_finding What about putting an endoscope in the oil pan?
@MrBojangles901
@MrBojangles901 2 месяца назад
Just drop the subframe. It's just 6 bolts and some stuff that's attached that you need to remove.
