I really hope that you flushed all the cooling system to make sure no other pieces of the radiator cap were floating around before installing the new water pump, another piece can easily get lodged in the new pump and distroy it.
All the cold winters, snow, ice and the salt on the roads. Its a recipe for corrosion. I'm in the UK. We occasionally salt the roads and my car is rusted on all the lower parts near the road surface for the same reasons.
Cover everything in degreaser, jack front of car up, get patio cleaner head for your pressure washer and use that underneath, I’ve found it works a treat at cleaning the underside! Just use normal pressure washer for the top with degreaser again and long wheel brush!
My 135I just started leaking I'm assuming from the water pump after sitting for 2 weeks. I was supposed to replace it before moving to Atlanta but I was sent the wrong one but I did replace the thermostat which this video does a good job or explaining how to just do a water pump. I think I did it on my 335I years ago but its been so long I don't remember. Good video and cheers
I goto the car wash by me that has a lift in the one bay, I buy a bunch of bottles of engine cleaner spray it all over my engine top and bottom (I remove the bottom tray) I start the car and while its running I pressure wash the hell out of it everywhere making sure to spray facing away from the ECU box when it comes to that side of the engine compartment. By the time I am done the car looks new again! This also helps identify where a leak is actually coming from as its not a giant grease ball anymore.
The same thing happened to my WP on my N54, although it was the red 'level float' stick that sits in the coolant reservoir, it had disintegrated/snapped off and a piece lodged inside the WP propeller causing it too fail!
Very nice fix. My new water pump is a Continental with plastic housing, unfortunately. They crack through heat cycles and age. Not only in warm countries. In Holland we are in a sea climate, so nothing crazy. Mine was cracked, but only losing a small amount of coolant yet. It was 11 yo and only 83k km's !!! Now I know INA sells a complete aluminum pump, my next pump will be an INA one. INA is actually a German water pump supplier for BMW. Maybe they saw these pumps fail and did an aftermarket upgrade. We are lucky here. There's only one (manual) car wash in our county that offers a high-pressure degreasing program. I wonder for how long this will be possible. So 2 times a year I go there and degrease the whole engine and bay. It's like new, I can tell you. I get compliments every time I go to the MOT inspection(ones a year in my case). Hopefully, there is no oil leak at the turbo oil feed line O-rings. But now you guys have to lower the subframe anyway, it's a much-relaxed job. The n54 doctors will strike again ;-) . Dutch regards, Nico
maybe also have a look at the vanos solenoids when you change the oil filter housing and cooler gaskets not that they started leaking too and are masked by the river of oil coming from the oil filter
17Ts inlets and outlets from Viv arriving tomorrow. You’re the reason I bought them. Also you should consider trying to pro tune an n54 and making a series about it. I’d love to do all the work on my car including tuning it.
@@ZeroTo60Tube Think he means self tune with tuner pro. A self tune video would be gold on RU-vid. Don't think I've ever seen it. I've tuned with HPtuners but these ecu's are bit more confusing.
At this point in time im gonna leave the tuning to the guys that know best. These are super easy to make a little bit of power on (which is why there are so many internet tuners out there), but then they are very hard to perfect things like timing corrections, especially during load certain conditions. I have spoken in depth with JSR (the guy that has tuned mine) and for the money its not worth trying to learn yourself. Unless you want to invest 100s of hours in to it, which i just cant do..... got too many videos to edit haha. On the same note, if you have time i think its something great to learn about yourself. Even if you end up paying for a tune, having some background knowledge before you pay for a tune will net you a better result i bet.
Hi, love the videos keep it up You seem to be abit of an N54 guru and I'm completely stumped so I've been through around 5 water pumps in the past year my current one has a very strange issue and I wondered if anyone else has experienced anything like it, when the engine runs the pump doesn't work, no codes nothing just stops working secondly when the car is locked / unlocked or doing a bleed procedure it runs absolutely fine but the second I turn the engine on overheating is imminent I'm completely stumped and refuse to buy another waterpump. Strangely enough I've just attached it to a battery charger thinking it could be voltage related and that's also stopped the pump working briefly.
@@ZeroTo60Tube M3 is good but just sits in the garage for the most part... I prefer to just look at it 🤩 that way nothing breaks lol just kidding... my e30’s are causing me problems! Oil leak in the S2 and a coolant leak in the S1 🤦🏻♀️ it never stops 😅
That's funny today my cheap water pump broke again i put the old one back in that is leaking a bit i dont put the top bolt in so much easier put water pump in or out
Love your vids, man! Do you know if these metal water pumps last longer than the plastic stock pumps? Is this the same pump that can be found on the n52?
Not sure if anyone mentioned this already. But that "crack" line in the plastic is like that from the factory. Look at any of the water pump photos on ecs or fcp and that line is already in the plastic.
Yes, but that’s where it’s split. You can see it pouring out of there in the last vid. Must be a weak point in the casting. That’s where my original one was split a few years ago too.
@@ZeroTo60Tube Pieces of junk. When i got my replacement in the mail from FCP years ago, i thought something was wrong with it until i investigated further. Love the content. Keep it up.
The coating on the turbos would obviously just have been the VTT ceramic coating (heatshield coating to minimise radiating heat) which was an optional extra when ordering from VTT
That's oil filter housing gasket leak. Going down where the cylinder head gasket is located and then it goes down the back. If that's a track car/daily do the OFH gasket and the hose that goes from cylinder head to thermostat (have to pull fan) because the plastic part is mush, they make an aluminum one that is permanent. The main way these car die is to overheat. Don't play with cooling. Don't want oil and coolant to mix in the OFH. Good luck, she is in good hands.
Can you put a part number for this metal water pump? I'm trying to find one now as 'preventative maintenece', but I can't find one... at least that I'm sure that is 100% metal.
You still have that link for the n54 coupe I'm thinking my problem isn't the pump but a electrical problem. And the link you said you would post isn't there anymore
My water pump went out last night. Hit limp mode but made it back home safe. Would you recommend the all aluminum water pump kit from FCPEuro? Thanks in advance. 😅
What’s the verdict on your aluminum water pump? It’s been almost a year. I have to change mine on an 07 E90 w/ N54. I’m going to get the Pierburg 11519455978 version, which is made in Germany. 2 year warranty. I know FCP has the lifetime warranty on the OEM pump, but they so t carry the this particular pump for what ever reason?
yeah its been good. Just a head up if your old one cracked check engine and trans mounts, when they sag and the motor moves around it puts a lot of force on the pump housing
Hello my friend. I have a Bmw 335i e92 2007 ". I have done 82,000 thousand kilometers. Do I have to change the pump too? I do not have a problem at the moment! Just tell me how long does a water pump last?
I wouldn’t change it then until I needed to, they are so expensive. They seem to fail at varying points. And often other things can be a factor like engine mounts. But when the water pump does go, it’s probably worth doing. A cooling system refresh, like all hoses and thermostat etc
Ha funny just did mine while I was fishing around the engine bay pulling off my beautiful 3 month old turbos. Good note picked up a cheeeeeeeeeap CSF alloy radiator which should be a hoot to squeeze in but should keep things cooler!! Still feel like I'm months away from driving again and old "Bluey" the daily Elantra is rather.... boring. Want to do a video on it 🤣
@@ZeroTo60Tube oh no no no it get's worse.... Auto Elantra. Keep eyeing cars at work to hit the boss up to take home just for some fun!!! But M5 Mark and I have been given stern words about borrowing cars so much due to "car is down at the moment can I borrow a car for a day which turns into weeks" BMW life hahahaha
Bro how are you still on index 1's how much they cost in the land of antigravity? Here in America, where we are right side up they're about 1400 for a set of 6
I know that shipping from the US isn’t ideal for you but this company veinstands.com/ actually figured out how to rebuild N54 injectors.. for $390 it’s a pretty freaking awesome considering a new set is $1400 from FCP. They rebuild every index 1 through 12. Also.. those turbos aren’t great IMO.. just Chinese with a VTT name plate.
My e90 n52 has a slight rough ideal like that car but mine clears up shortly after the cars running for say a min or so. Sometimes it’ll clear up as I start driving. Any advice would be great?
@@ZeroTo60Tube I’ll have to check them. It’s just been really cold here and we’re expecting 5 to 10 inches of snow soon. So looks like I’m gonna have to check em tomorrow be for the snow comes. 🤦🏽♂️
Just a local parts store to be honest, i was ecpecting a continental one and the suppliers sent this INA. Heres the full vid i did on it when it first turned up. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-rtL4dlE7280.html&t
Hey man, sorry I have a folder with about 10 songs in I have been using November. But they are all from the RU-vid music library. Just search newest songs
Is it still good. And what brand is this. Im currently looking at the pierburg n54 metal water pump i also found gates making a full metal one any update would be appreciated
@@Alexdinho10 great to hear. I had a pump fail at about 80k miles. So replaced pump and thermostat. My 335 has not been used for about 18 months and the water pump missing code is coming up. Have checked all the connections and bsd line. All seems fine so pump does seem to be toast. It is a continental with plastic outer. I have a pierburg full metal pump to replace it with. I've contacted some local mechanics to see if they can fit it. They are taking ages to even respond so I might have to fit it myself. Hoping that's the only issue the car has.
