2014 F10 535ix, 183k miles. Purchased the vehicle as a CPO with 32k miles. Don't be afraid to drive it. That being said, stay on top your preventive maintenance. Keep an eye out for brittle plastics in the engine bay. Thanks for the video. Cheers!
I love the N55 in my Stg1 F22 M235i. The only thing that's failed is the coolant hose and the charge pipe (both around 40k miles). With 5k oil change interval and gasket replacement at 80k, this engine is pretty damn solid.
I hope they are reliable i have 170km on the clock and running a stage 2 e30blend so far no issues people tell ypu different things ill find out for myself
My m135i has 108k km on it and I just discovered that the oilfilter housing is I little oil sweetie. I’m going to replace the gaskets and change to Mosselman as well. But so far the engine runs fine with stock 320 hp.
I have 12' BMW 135i M Sport DCT at 97k miles. Only issue has been upper radiator hose nozzle for the return line to the reservoir. Changed with ease and did the return line too. I have done the belt, sparks, serviced the DCT with new oil and pan and filters. A solid build with so much torque. I have a VRSF charge pipe and a Mosselman with thermostat oil housing is next.
Manual 2014 M135i 500 hp hybrid turbo owner here. Have recently changed/ replaced all parts mentioned in this video because of numerous oilleaks etc. Massive bill for repairs!! Got upgraded BMS cold air intake, aluminium inletpipe, chargepipe, Wagner intercooler, downpipe, Sachs racing clutch, H&R coilovers, MMR sump baffle and BMW M- Performance LSD. Engine runs on thicker 10W-60 oil changed every 5000 kilometers. The car is always driven spiritualy and has done a handfull of track- days and done several laps at the Nurburgring. Equipped with light flow- formed rims and Nankang AR-1 semi-slicks the car has NO trouple doing battles with Cayman GT4's and other cars 4-8 times it's value. But hard use combined with high horsepower output comes with equally high maintenance costs. That said the engine runs strong, sounds glorious and pulls massively with 730 NM in all gears! A tuned M135i/140i is a serious pocket- rocket💥💪
2013 N55 335x drive... 135km... I've changed the oil gasket back around 100k as preventive maintenance. Plugs, filters, lots of oil changes... I never liked BMWs 20k oil change interval, though it was too long. Daily driver, summer and winter with the AWD it's unstoppable. Currently the oil pan is starting to leak and with the AWD it's a PITA to change... otherwise this car as not asked me for very much of anything.
I have a 2013 335 X drive 6MT msport. My water pump is metal and original. My auxiliary water pump is plastic. I'm at 193k miles so far. I don't trust the water pump but it keeps going. Its not the same pump as on the non Msport cars with 1 pump only. The original charge pipe I preventatively replaced at 174k miles (wasn't leaking though). The throttle body end shattered upon removal. Lol
Love my 2011 N55 335i M Sport. Awesome video on common problems. Watched your BMW videos since I was in the market for a Bimmer. Always great info! Currently running on 70k miles and changed the leaky valve cover, spark plugs, water pump and thermostat and the common coolant tank due to the seam separating guess it’s common for the E-series… still got to get to the oil coolant housing gasket and a walnut blasting. Oil changes every 5k with motul oil. I always buy genuine BMW parts for the quality. I’m in love with it tho especially with the MHD stage one tune, hopefully a stage 2 fbo one day but also looking to go to a B58 one also! Good day!
@@XxXnonameAsDXxX i got my n55 in the LCI M2 and my BMW guy said, I dont need to worry about that at all, I just need to change oil every 30k km. I am a bit unsure on what to do, because they say, earlier oil changes interfere with my 2 year warranty. My car has 50k km on the clock so far.
@@Dast0t I have an 335i E93 N55 DCT. I do oil changes every ~10-12k kilometers. 30k kilometers is the official recommendation from BMW. But from a technical point of view it will always be better to change it earlier.
I have had the N54 and now N55 and I’ll say it’s much better reliability wise N54 is a nightmare but much more fun at accelerating because of twin turbo designs has
Great and informative as always, what's your advice for E92 N55 owners on key maintenance areas for the previous generation engine? I recently got a 2011 N55, how likely are the spun rod bearings from your real life experience in the UK and are they mainly caused by oil starvation as oposed to wear in M3? Thanks
To be honest there wasn’t “That” many that had the issue, many were due to long oil changed and also boosting the engine to the limit when the engine was cold. Also many would slap a tune on the car and redline it from the moment it started without care. N55 isn’t common for rod bearings to go out, also if you have E90 you will have the older version N55 even tho it has PWG it’s still the OLDER 302BHP version which mine is the 320BHP version so yours wouldn’t be m performance. The m performance were only fitted to the F series.
@@BMWDoctor just due to hard driving? That’s why I always wait for my oil to be up to temp and oil changes every 3k miles? Should I replace the bearings or is it something I shouldn’t worry about?
@@Use2FACTAUTH generally changing every 5k is perfect, 3k can be excessive UNLESS you just want peace of mind then go ahead. Also avoid tracking your N55, long corners tend to starve the engine of oil for a split second causing bearing failure, otherwise wait until oil is up to temp and bash it as hard as you want and there’s basically no chance of bearing failure. Take care of it and it’ll take care of you
All you have to watch is the FCP Euro N55 teardown to understand why you should just wait for a b58. "Let's hold the harmonic balancer, crank pulley and lower timing set on with just the tension of the crank bolt - who needs a keyway?" 🙄
my 2015 m235i just blew and i am still in the process of getting her to the shop, if it is in fact cracked and it spun a rod bearing, im goiing to be so surprised
do you you think the 2015 n55 or more reliable then the 2013 ones on a 335i or is it similar and doesn’t matter what year you get as long as it’s low miles ?
As a n55 owner I gotta say. I laugh at people saying that the engine is good after listing a 14 minute video of all the issues that will happen in simply reaching 100k miles.
You are right, doing a lot of research on my next car and the n55 may produce decent power but needs a lot of “maintenance” to make it to a 100k miles.
I think toyota demanding higher standards from bmw for the Toyota Supra may have influenced bmw to do better across all of their cars. Only time will tell.
I've owned one since 50k miles until so far today at 107k miles the guy before me changed upper and lower pan gasket. All I did was oil changes and a control arm on both sides replaced - amazing car
Looking for answers to code P0171. No other codes no obvious symptoms. I know my valve cover is seeping so I’ll be replacing that but any ideas or things to look for?
Hi Dean i watch loyal follower of yours ! . I own a m135i exactly like your car same same ... similar milsge too . Ownec it for 5 months stage 2 tune runs good powerful no issues yet ... bmws are nice but I think asa package the golf r vag cars are better vehicles over all for the money abd what you get with them unless your buying a g series now your talking f series cars are getting dated !!
I wouldn’t buy the G series I ain’t intrested in front wheel drive system. Thats one of the reasons I picked the F20 because of rear wheel drive. And I agree the golf r is a very very nice and powerful car but I ain’t into VW they are too basic for me and the lowest budget car the VAG group do, personally I would opt for the RS if I had my choice as I much much prefer Audi. And the AUDI RS6 V10 and the R8 are two of the cars I will own believe me.
i guess i lucked out when i bought my m sport 2015 335i Lol. I had a coil go out on me while heavy driving at 80k miles though. Will be doing bosch plugs soon and belt/tensioner. im currently stage 2 fbo, and havent had any issues with my plugs so i didnt consider upgrading to iridium. I read on forums stock bosch plugs are good for 500hp. CP blew on stock boost aswell a while ago so i got aluminum one. Always doing liquimoly changes every 5k miles. I love my ewg n55, sounds amazing and always pulls hard. Waiting for intercooler prices to drop to get one. Anything recommended since im boosted?
I just bought a manual rwd 306hp 335i f30 from 2015 with 39k by bmw s premium selection program with 2 years waranty. Do i have something to do now to prevent some engine failures? Is this engine and transmision good? I want to tune it later to make 400hp (at crank)on pump gas. remap, exhust, intercooler, and intake upgrades should be enough , should I replace another things at this amount of power?
love the content! ive had someone write off my front corner pulling out of a give way and was wondering if I replace the damaged headlight with a second hand one andput the modules in from my car, will it work without programming it? thanks in advanced
Easy way is to run codes. See which cylinder is misfiring, take that ignition coil, swap with a cylinder that isn’t misfiring. Clear codes and drive to misfire again. Run codes. If it follows to the good cylinder you know you have a bad coil. If not, do the same with the spark plug. Most likely the coil.
I have a older 2007 x5 n52 I'm wanting to upgrade to a newer x5 n55. I see a lot of 2011 2012 with engine issues. Which years would be better to buy? 2013 and up?
Would there be any key engine differences between the 135i vs m235i? I see they have difference engine code (N55B30M0 vs N55B30O0). Been trying to decide between a late model 135i vs a m235i for awhile now. This would be solely be a daily, I don't intend to push any high numbers.
I have a m135i and it's been great. I'm happy I went out over the 235i. It's still a bit small but the hatch is great and can fit a bit. It's a mad sleeper.
Hey man, 2014 535i xDrive. Very clean PPI! How reliable is this car overall? I’m at 85k miles. Only thing I need to do is thrust arm bushings. I have the usual symptoms Highway vibration steering wheel Front end shimmy over 60+ mph
