Is it possible for the turbo to fail in a way that it leaks exhaust into the cooling system, in that center collar?

Very scary stuff. I've never liked the idea of owning a car with turbos. But, like an idiot, I bought a BMW 750Li with the N63 engine. I purchased it January 8th 2019. Nothing but problems since. Every problem has been in the engine compartment. Pretty as it is, I'm getting rid of it as soon as I can. I'll never buy ANY other car with turbos. No more power adders for me. I'm done with that nonsense.

as long as i can remember turbos were always problems.

Turbos aren’t the problem. People who drive and don’t maintain them are the problem.

@@thatflywelshguy9662 how do you maintain them. When so you know that a problem exist. I have a 2011 550iand of couse the rear of the engine is leaking coolant...go figure,but it rides so good. I guess I hace to pay the $2190.00 to fix it.
@thatflywelshguy9662
@thatflywelshguy9662 4 года назад
Orlando Hillard the main thing for the turbos is letting the car warm up and cool down before shutting off. If you beat on the car then shut it off then the oil and coolant boils in the turbos. Also changing your oil 5-7K NOT 10-15k

@@thatflywelshguy9662 whoever had it before me changed the oil ever 5k, thank goodness and its in the shop now for rear engine coolant cover leak, can you believe that partt is $1200.00

these worn wastegates seem to be a common issue with bmw, is there a fix for them so you dont have to replace the turbo? 2012 x5, is there a way to access the wastegate to check for wear without too much dissasembly?

Hi i have a bmw 750li f02 with the issue of exhaust gas smell in the car. do you know what it can come from? the exhaust manifold gaskets have been changed but the problem is still present
@acc8064

i had a similar smell, it turned out to be burned oil leaking from a return turbo oil line. it was hard to diagnose but once replaced no more burnt oil smell in the car.

Valve stem seals, it's a big issue with these BMW V8s, a very well known problem. Unfortunately it means you gotta rip out the engine and strip apart both heads and rebuild the top-end, easily a $5k+ multi-day job that will need to be done every ~100k km due to all of the heat from the hot-v turbo setup of these engines keeping more heat than other V8 designs trapped near the rear of the engine and causing the rubber valve stem seals to get hard and no longer seal properly, allowing oil to pass through into the cylinders and burn causing excessive oil consumption and the smokey exhaust symptom you see.

Hello A U, the engines were available as of last week. There are 7 N63's in the USA in the BMW parts department. The price was still $3,700.00. Give me the last 7 of your vin number and I can check. thanks.

Ok, I just called my local BMW dealer in Vista, CA. Part number 11 00 2 296 774 $3,732.39. BMW has 18 in North America as of today. I can have the engine within 24 hours.

Does the 2013 650 have the N63TU? Are they any better?
@fixingcars
@fixingcars 4 года назад
The 2013 has a part number of 11 65 7 646 092 for the N63T engine. To compare to the N63 from a 2012 model car it is 11 65 7 646 092. You can see they are the same part number. I looked at supersessions which is how many times BMW has altered the part for a "more reliable" replacement: 11654615206 (03/01/2012 - 06/13/2013), Exchangeable retrospectively11657590598 (07/01/2008 - 03/21/2014), Exchangeable retrospectively11654571543 (07/09/2009 - 01/29/2010)BMW is on it's 4th version of the part. Clearly there is a problem with these turbos, or else BMW would have kept the same part number since the beginning in 2008.To answer your question, depending on which model of 6 series you have, either the N63N or N63T engine (I need your vin to verify futher). BMW has improved the cooling flow through the turbos, this is critical. If you read into the reasons why BMW recommends to replace the battery every 12 months on this car, the above mentioned is the reason why. After you shut the car off the car will run the fan and an electric water pump to cool down the turbos for up to 1/2 hour. If the battery isn't brand new, this after run cycle will not run causing the turbo's to heat soak and overheat, AFTER THE ENGINE IS SHUT OFF.My recommendation is change the oil every 7,500 miles, and change the battery every 18 months (or thoroughly charge the battery every 6 months overnight with a CTek trickle charger) and the turbo's will last.
