By far this has been the best informative video addressing the charge while driving capability. I had spoken with a the genius dept at the dealership who suggested driving in battery hold. Your video explained what I needed to know because it was a bit frustrating that the battery drained so quickly and having a long commute to work. This is my first BMW and its the PHEV 330e 2024 with the 20-22 mi electric range which I found not to be that high at all. Recharging while driving was main feature I've been trying to figure out until now. The next hurdle is to get more educated with kWh/h and gal/h. Would you mind explaining a little bit more to a newbie how to understand the way it works or how I should read it? It's confusing to me. But thank you for this and look forward to more of your content. This was needed.

I can help with the kWh/h and gal/h…. So that pops up when you’re standing still idling, and lets you know either how many kWh of power you’re going to use IF you’re idling for an hour, likewise if not using your electric power gal/hr is how many Gallons of gas you’lll use per hour of idling. The second you start moving it will switch back to your instant and average consumption gauges.

I had a PRIUS that acceleration/braking was the WORST. Hybrids just aren't it. Go full EV or get an ICE car was the lesson i learned.

Thank you for the video, I was eagerly waiting for your detailed video as you promised in the last video to do it when you have a car you can drive, as I couldn't make my X5 50e charge itself as my previous 745e. With 745e, I could charge it to 100% from Zero with just battery hold. I am disappointed as I do not have a charging at home facility. Now, I'm just hoping BMW will be kind enough to rectify this with any over the air update. 😢

Thanks for this!. I love your honesty. I own the X5 50e with out 1,000 miles on it. Love the car - and I have an M3 and have had many BMWs (3, 5 and 7). The PHEV isn't about saving fuel. I think of it as a dual fuel vehicle. The electric gives me the pre-conditioning (I live in a cold place) and a really lovely and quiet drive but the ability to switch to ICE when wanted without any range anxiety. Highly recommend to someone who wants this experience.

Hello! Long time EV Driver here and BMW Fan. I love how in depth you go into the electric side of BMWs on your channel. Most people just seem to focus on the gas side and I love how you get into charging and settings. I just recently sold my 2019 BMW i3 REX (also had a 2014 i3 REX for years before) and now I am looking at moving into a BMW PHEV (my other car is Mustang Mach E so I don’t need a 2nd full EV or I would get an iX). Coming from the i3 I don’t really need a huge huge SUV, but I seen that BMW discontinued the X3 PHEV a few years ago here in the USA so that just leaves the X5 PHEV if I want a PHEV BMW SUV… two questions if you don’t mind. I seen rumors back a few months ago about BMW releasing a new design X3 for the 2025 model year and a rumor about that new X3 might be coming back to the US as a PHEV again with more EV range. Have any BMW dealers heard anything about this? My 2nd question, if I have to go the X5 PHEV route, I seen your review on the 2024 X5 PHEV and I was wondering if technology and battery size changed a lot between the 2023 and 2024?

Hey! SO, the next gen X3 IS rumored to have a PHEV option again, no exact word on exactly what range/power/power capacity it will/would have. The current one over in Europe is basically the same as the 330e setup (80kW motor, 4th gen battery 12kWh gross, 3.7kW AC Single phase charging…), IF it’s all following the current X5 model I’d imagine it will get a double battery size bump IF it’s using 5th gen battery tech… now conversely if it switches to the 6th gen battery and bypasses 5th gen all together I’d imagine something closer to 30-35kWh and around 60 miles of EV range… but more likely it would get 5th gen tech, so 40-45 miles of EV range, 7.4kW AC Charging… As for the second question, there is no change in the X5 50e for power, charging or range.

Would you be bale to showcase the $50 “Welcome Light Animation” on the connected drive store for the 2024 5 series? Not sure what it is exactly. Says there are different modes such as “Adagio,” “Vivace,” and “Allegro.”

Thanks for the detailed post. I guess you’re hand holding the camera the whole time. I’m sure the ride is not as busy as it appears.

That's good. I sort of thought that ride couldn't be that bad because I'm thinking of maybe getting this X5 so I just wanted to make sure.@@BMWofFW
