I had a 90 Jahre (2013) edition for three years. Then i rode Bonnevilles for 5 years. Now I’ve returned to a 2020 RT. It felt like coming home. Great pillion for my partner. Cheers (UK)
Most practical BMW made. I've rented them a couple times and they are great. Made me kinda mad that I bought an FJR. I had to change most everything on the Yami, but the BMW seemed to do everything right out of the box. In addition to the engine having a nice character, the bike being uber comfy, and carrying a ton of stuff, it also carved Alp switchbacks almost like a sport bike. Really love that anti-dive front end. The two issues for me were seat height and how badly it moved around under heavy cross winds. And the new ones don't require the entire bike to be disassembled to change the clutch plates. From your vid, this new engine sounds better than the old ones on the gas. The old ones were a bit more sewing machine like.
@@RevelatorAlf Just need to find it some knobbies ;) My local shop hosts adventure rides a couple times a year. No kidding, a guy with one of those BMW1600 tourers did it with us. It took him longer, but he made it over or around every obstacle. He didn't even wear a helmet.
I’m on my 3rd RT and looking for the 2021 model in spring, they are just brilliant. Easy get well over 60 mpg all day. Very light and easy to handle, all the storage you want. Just brilliant bikes
Told ya Alf. First video of the day. Couldn't wait when I saw it. the 2021 will have adaptive cruise control too. It's the most common police bike in the world. When I talk to motor cops, they prefer the RT-P to the HD hands down. The RT is probably 110lbs lighter than the K16GT for sure. My 2009 RT is even lighter, but it doesn't have the power the new ones do. Mine is 570 wet. The new ones are like 615. The KGT is 730 or something like that. Tires, Michelin Pilot Road 4GT is what I use. Very good in the rain. I can tell you that you can cover a lot of ground quickly with it. I did 780 miles once in 11 hours with stops for gas and food. The new one, I could do better. The only things I've done to the bike are peg lowering kit, bar risers and a bigger windscreen, a Calsci XL. I've also replaced the headlight bulbs with LEDs. That's really it. Just maintenance. Mine has a 7.1 gallon tank and with strictly highway, I can get about 325 mile range.
great, fun vid. I have the 1250RT and you pretty much sum up how good it is. The whole image of an RT puts so many people off - fine!! I ride predominantly very technical roads as I live in the sticks and it handles everything ridiculously well. The only comment i would make about your review is about it may be being harder in traffic - but many RT riders including myself, do not use the panniers - and then its no different to any other bike. Brilliant all round - but expensive. Love mine.
Revelator, I am in the United States and I bought for my first bike at the age of 57 a 2003 BMW 1200GT and it is an awesome bike! So much fun bit just a little top heavy. I am learning on this one and looking to get either the new 1250RT or the 1600B. Enjoy your enthusiasm brother! Have a Merry Christmas. 👍😎
You are making the salesman’s job easy Alf. I thought you was blown away with the 1600 but it’s not had to see you are Omer the moon with the 1250. Look forward to your next video and thank you for sharing this review with us😃😂
What a great ride. RT is on my radar so well timed report. When you compare with 1600 performance I think the extra weight and revs for 1600 makes 1250 more sense (I checked arithmetic on power to weight and torque to weight and they are near identical). Thanks for sharing your enthusiasm!
Sorry I am a bit late commenting. I have not ridden a 1250RT, but I have had an 1100RT and two 1200 RT's. The best one to me was the 1100RT. It handled much better and the wind protection was far superior. I am 6'2" and with the screen on the 1100 at full extend (standard screen), I sat in still air, no wind noise or buffeting. However the 1200's could not be thrown around as easily and I could not get a wind free, buffet free ride even with an aftermarket larger screen. They are also top heavy and very easy to drop. However I do like the looks, but at the moment I will stick with my Sport Glide, even though I am not allowed to ride it.
I noticed you rode it in rode mode Alf if you would have put it in dynamic it would blow your socks off .everything changes throttle suspension goes like a sports bike .if you ever get to ride the new one try it in dynamic loads of fun I only use dynamic mode unless it’s wet. I enjoyed your video it is a amazing machine thanks
@@ron_grimes apart from the bigger tank which if you fill it up obviously adds more weight the bigger profile is just plastic panels. The GSA does have more suspension travel too so it sits higher than a standard GS. However dispite their size a lot of the weight is low down because of the boxer engine so both the GSA and GS are far more manageable at low speed than you'd think 😉
For fun you should also ride the R1250RS, a different flavor of the same platform. I own one, you might really like it if you like the RT. Nice review.
I've never had a go on an RT so perhaps I should, though fully spec'd up the price is a bit eye watering isn't it ( and let's face it no one buys a base model BMW). I've tried the RS but didn't like the riding position, I felt there was too much weight on mybwrists and I was leant too far forward as I'm only 5'7" tall preferring the more upright and higher seating position of the GS and the extra road prescence that gives. The RT might be queen of the road as you say but the GS is still king of the sales. Maybe that's due in part to image etc but the RT will never sell as well as the GS which in some ways isn't a bad thing as it's therefore more exclusive.
I may have confused things here, my comments about the road prescence refer to the RS not RT. Riding the RS maybe because of my lack of height meant it was a big stretch to the bars for me and I felt down amongst the traffic with poor visibility over my shoulders as a result where as on the GS I sat above the traffic and had better visibility over my shoulders. I also found the mirrors on the RS positioned quite far away which again gave me a poorer narrower field of vision compared to the GS which uses the same mirrors but they're a lot closer to the rider. It wasn't all bad though as it was great fun to ride, it just didn't do it for me. I do like the telelever front end so maybe I should give the RT a go next time I'm in the market for a change. Thanks for your reply
people always mention valve adjustments with bikes but don’t even consider valve adjustment with a car. Why so much importance with the valves on a bike engine?
@@RevelatorAlf It was my first time. I didn’t want to offense you. I said it because people from Europe generally are not use to big bikes (like big American bikes)and a lot of critics often said that the 1250rt is a heavy bike. Well, everything is so relative.
