Finally most of the parts of my 1981 BMW R100CS are back in the garage, meaning assembly can begin. In this episode we’ll take a look at some of the newly rebuilt parts ahead of work starting.
It's great to see the progress. Thank you for the videos. However, I would upgrade the temperamental dreaded Diode board and voltage regulator with a modern Regulator Rectifier unit. They are cheap and far better than the old charging system and fairly easy to install. You just need to ensure that you get the right one if you are using lithium battery. 🙏🙏👍👍
You've made terrific choices in your restoration, and I believe that you'll end up with a very elegant, useful, and valuable motorcycle. I saw a youtube video of a guy telling about his process of removing a tank liner from an old Harley. His key tools were long forceps, compressed air, and a scraper he made from welding a washer to some welding rod. Another tip is to wrap the tank with vinyl to protect the paint. I bought an older R1200RT this year to complement my Interceptor 650, and I love the feeling and sound of the flat twin and the great handling. I'm really looking forward to your continued experiences with your CS.
Another totally absorbing WM vid....thanks for posting. Great to see you've got Venhill Featherlight cables........May I suggest that if you've yet to purchase new brake lines I highly recommend going for Venhill there too. Their brake lines have a special 'swivel' feature at the fitting ends so they don't twist out of shape when they are tightened, something which many aftermarket braided lines do, and so look much neater when installed. Looking forward to further boxer rebuild vids.
Thanks mate. Yes good call on the brake lines. I think I’ll order a set shortly. In fact I have a full set that I need to put in the Interceptor at some point.
This is going to be so interesting to see the progression and also inspiring to me to get back to mine too as soon as I move house can't wait 😁 the cerracoating looks fantastic and I will use some of that so you sent the carbs of to get them sorted and the rear wheel hub ,it would be very interesting to know the costs on all this stuff just as a reference this would give people a bit of a handle on what this sort of challenge can cost someone should they wish to go down this road with a project 😉it's gonna look fab 👌👍Cheers
Great to see the progress, exciting times! Looking forward to seeing her reborn, you’ve taken so much care with everything it’s going to be amazing! 👏👍😀🏍
I removed the paralever last week, witch i sanded with fine coarse pads, the wheels are chemically stripped and look awesome without any paint, a sort of copper finished aluminium. the driveshaft is in perfect shape, looks like new, pretty much all seals where good and in function order on the final drive, gearbox and front fork. even found white grease on the splines of the axles. i can't chemically strip the final drive or para lever arm, because the bearings in them are still good and you can't buy the tools required to take them apart, the final drive that is. i was in a international tool shop. the foot brake is of the be stripped and powder coated, the rest will be painted in BMW Avus Black, the second time for the wheels, there where to many drips in the paint and i could take it off with my nails, i found out by accident. the car damage shop luckily wasn't offended, but he did try to sell it to me as imperfections in the alu. the result is, the appearance of the bike was kinda home improvement with some hand painted parts, but seemingly maintenance was done properly. probably i'll will be left whit a whole pile of new parts while the originals are stil good. Now i have to take off the rear frame and have it powder coated, but the passenger footpegs give me problems.
@@WildlifeMoto Not really, the bolt of the left footpeg is seized due to oxidation, that bolt that allows the pegs to be tugged in if not needed, if you can't remove the foot peg you can't reach the bolt under it to remove it completely. i have been spraying the last 2 weeks, the right side came loose. was hammering and spraying again today after i saw your video. you can buy the bolt, but not the rest of the foot peg parts. the powder coat came somewhat loose there and it's a bit of an eye sour.
