To be honest I’m not a fan of any quick shifter mechanism. After riding for over 50 years I just can’t allow myself to use it. It just feels inherently wrong. I know that it works on my new gs because I did actually try it a couple of times. This bike is a joy to shift using the clutch. The pull on the clutch lever is so light and the gearbox is so smooth it really is a joy to use. Must be a generational thing. Be safe.
Maybe. I know some gents longer in the tooth say that the quick shifter has extended their riding life because always pulling in the clutch hurt their hands. To each their own. The best part of this world of bikes is there’s something for everyone. What some like others will hate. And that’s okay! Ride what you love
I agree. I have a 2023 GS and don't use the quick shift at all. Somehow it just feels wrong. The clutch works great and feels right to the way I learned to ride. The GS is my 7th bike.
Three weeks ago I purchased a triple black 22 standard I now have 3400 miles just can’t quite put it away and stay away from it ride safe and stay upright
Spot on review... as far as service goes, for me its no more expensive than any of the bikes I have or have owned, but I do all my own service. Oil and filter change is super easy, air filter just as easy. Even the valves are easy. If you can lube a chain... you can service 90% of a GS. Its not hard and very fulfilling to do your own service and you get to know the workings of your bike. My 2020 GS is at 16,000 and its been a blast and trouble free. Enjoy your new ride.
Thank you Yo Ken. From what I hear as long as you don’t take it to BMW every time it’s not very expensive to maintain. Great to see others really enjoying the 1250.
Totally! People often say it’s super expensive to maintain, but if you do it yourself it’s actually super DIY friendly. Those heads make it super easy.
Its good to know you like GS, it is a great bike. For me it is XR and I am enjoying my 2022 S1000XR M Sport. These bikes are very balanced and comfortable, comes with all goodies and rider safety and worth absolutely every penny!
I have the f850 gs it for me it feels so premium for a mid adv bike, what more with the 1250... it really is worth its price. There is a certain geometry magic on these gs bikes that when you sit on them it makes you feel at home immediately.
nice video - it always good to see someone happy with their decisions - I have had a GS1150 for about 15 years however the last 10 years it has spent parked up in the garage - it was proving to painful to ride average distances on, the seat position to peg allows for very limited movement, the two cylinders on engine configuration got in the way trying to stretch out cramp in the legs. So it became a nightmare to ride, a popular 'fix' was to add sheep skin to sit on - nice idea but in practice doesn't work - so it became bottles of painkillers to take before going anywhere. its now a cluttering up my garage and once a year I give it clean and push it to the back of the garage. great video - more please
Thank you so much man. Yeah the heads are what I love and hate about the bike. I smack my legs all the time. On occasion I rest my legs on top of them, but it’s not relaxing. I feel I wouldn’t be able to get my feet back to the pegs in a hurry. So I am totally with you. One plus on adventure bikes is the ability to stand to stretch. After doing some 12 hour days Of straight riding, I decided I would rather do less miles and stop and enjoy the journey. Ride safe! And yes many more coming!
Nice video. I went from a s1000r to the 1250 gsa. Absolutely love the bike. And yes it it expensive. But my girlfriend has a ktm 790 adventure s. And her inspection at the dealer does cost more then mine at the dealer. Only thing I would say is not as good as some of the other bikes is the quick shifter. It’s a bit more clunky sometimes, especially down. The KTM and On the Tiger I think is better. But overall in my opinion the gsa is the best bike
Completely agree about the quick shifter. Yamaha has the smoothest one I have felt so far, with the Tiger as the runner up. But the BMW has to keep SOME German character to it. The substantial feel gives the quick shifter a unique feel. Lol. At least that’s how I justify it hahaha
Portugal is So good for riding 🙌 can't wait to get back there in May ... via the Picos in Northern Spain ... would be good to see some mini adventures from you in Portugal 👍
Great review. I agree with many of your points. Riding the GSA for 6 days and more than 1800kms I think that the GS would have been better for me. The GSA was amazing to ride but a little top heavy because of the bigger tank. I was a little nervous when riding at slow speeds on narrow roads. I think that you did a smart buy on the GS.
Yeah I have done some longer trips on the GSA, but honestly I stop more often regardless of gas because I don’t want to ride 3-400 miles without stopping. Both bikes I find very fun and GSA definitely has more protection from the wind, but in summer I want a bit of wind. Thanks, I really am enjoying the bike.
I am moving from the US to Porto Portugal in October. Selling all my possessions in the US and am trying to decide what new bike to get when I get there. Thanks for the review the BMW is probably going to be my choice. You stilk happy with the bike? What part or Portugal are you in?
Welcome to the party! I’m still a massive America fan, but man love it here in Portugal. Man I have always been a GS fan. Although I wouldn’t buy one prior to 2018 as the transmission sucks. My 2019 is a dream. I still thank God for it every time I ride. It’s my dream bike. I would like to ride the new tiger 1200 as it seems to be awesome. I still love the look of the GS more than anything out there, but the Tiger is getting closer. I would buy the GS again for sure. Send me a DM on the Instagram when you get a bike (americanabroadofficial) we have a group of guys in Porto that all ride together. I’m in Lisbon, but I get around.
If you are in greater Lisboa you have a very good BMW service specialist that may have lower prices than BMW Motorrad. Great bike and good unscripted review. Nearly got one but then went a different way. Maybe will regret… See you around.
Totally! I go to a place outside Lisbon that is wayyy cheaper and most of the time I get the bike back same day. Never had a bike mechanic in the U.S. do that. What bike did you get instead?
@@AmericanAbroad1 I got the v-strom 1050xt. It is a very good bike and that’s why I have it but the BMW in on a different league. You have a great machine. I wish I had that comfy seat - my Suzuki’s saddle is like seating on a wood board.
Dude, if you think the quick shifter is amazing on this bike, you really need to try out some other quick shifters. This is the worst I’ve ever had. Love the bike, and torque is great, but the quick shifter is bad and it’s fairly slow.
@@ryanmalone2681 first to second I pull the clutch after that if revs around 5k it shifts pretty smooth. Triumph Tiger 1200 newer models is even smoother.
