The ACC has three different distance settings. These are based on braking distances for different speeds. The button next to the hazard warning lights. Each press will move to a different distance indicated by the number of bars. Three bars is the longest distance for motorway high speed work, whilst one bar is the shortest for traffic. The ACC will only engage above 20 mph. It’s possible to turn ACC off, and only use the standard Dynamic Cruise Control (DCC). DCC will maintain a set speed no matter the gradient or wind conditions. However, it won’t intervene if you wander too close to the back of another vehicle. ACC is worth having if you’re going to munch miles, which most who buy the RT will do. In the UK, it’s about a £520 factory fitted option, so it’s affordable. My experience with it on a 3 day a week 200 mile round trip in all weathers, is it’s a life saver. It will brake if someone jams their brakes on. It will also do this if some plonker squeezes in between you and the vehicle in front. A word of warning though. I’m not brave enough to let it do its own thing! Once you’re aware, I think you should hit the anchors. Having said that, someone the other day squeezed in in front of me around 40mph. They then jammed the brakes on really aggressively. The ACC scrubbed a lot of speed very quickly. Happy and safe riding!

I've only had the bike for two weeks, but as far as the ACC, I do think it needs to stretch it out a little farther. Here in Arizona we have speed limits of 75 MPH and it's a little too close. My car has it also and at it's farthest setting is more than the RT. When it's most helpful is in a stop and go traffic, where it would keep the distance even when people jump in your lane, but that's not possible because the speed is too slow.

Nice comparison. I have a ‘22 GSA and am thinking about switching to the RT - love that bike. Probably doesn’t make much sense to have them both, though I could use the GSA for solo exploring/camping and the RT for 2 up, but she’s very comfortable on the Road Glide and I don’t think the RT would be as much. She won’t get on the GSA LOL.

Too many small things with the new RT. The biggest thing is that everything runs through your phone, and you lose the WiFi signal constantly. I never even connect to the app anymore, and don't use the big TFT for the navigation after I purchased a Garmin Zumo GPS, that ALWAYS WORKS. I miss the old RT.

Two questions. 1) Why 2 RT's? 2) Which one do you like better? Video - LIKE. 👍
@motor8654
@motor8654 Год назад
I'm selling the 2020 RT, both are nice but I do like the 2020 better. The '23 has too many small issues that the '20 didn't. The XM and AM antennas are terrible, making it impossible to enjoy them (I keep them off). The Adaptive Cruise Control on the '23, at its farthest setting still has you too close to the car in front (I also keep it off). On the "20, with the cruise control engaged, if you downshift without using the clutch (via quick-shifter), it disengages the cruise control, and you slow down, not on the '23, the cruise is still engaged, crazy. I won't even go into the connections to your phone issues and the map that is impossible to read the names of the streets.

How is the headlight, is there much difference in illumiation ?

I can't honestly say since I don't ride at night. The new headlights move when you're in a turn, and as far as I'm concerned, they're just another thing, to become a costly repair in the future.

I prefer the previous Gen just for the looks. Previous gen looks more fierce with the angel eyes. Would not comment on the tech and the new shift cam and all those new tech stuff, because I have never rode these before.

Not having the stand-alone guages is a issue, with the TFT, you have to be on the screen to change the music channel, and you lose the tachometer. The app based navigation (instead of GPS based), is the biggest disapointment, as the wifi signal is always dropping out forcing you to pull over and mess around with it. I don't even bother with it anymore, and use a Garmin Zumo insted, sadly.
@MintChoggy
@MintChoggy 6 месяцев назад
@@motor8654 damn. App based. Instead of gps. App based means need data? So it does not have gps navigation? Seems like alot of "small issues" with the newer gen. Rather the Angel Eyes gen.

@@MintChoggy Another video : ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ZCVKE74uyqE.html Correct the Nav is NOT GPS, but from the crappy BMW app, that needs your phone to work. The above video is from a trip I took last year, and have Pros & Cons in the comments, if you want more info about the bike, but I liked the old bike better.
@MintChoggy
@MintChoggy 6 месяцев назад
@@motor8654 Wow. that is really stupid. People travel far with these bikes. So if one will to leave a native country with this bike = phone has no data yet= no navigation. That is just plain stupid. What is BMW thinking. Saw your opinion on Adaptive Cruise Control as well. Pretty redundant and dangerous for that "Adaptive then", like you said. Why did you sell off the the 2020 then? Seems better with less burden, with less tech stuff.

Why RT instead GTL? RT has big vibration but GTL not , Thank you
@motor8654
@motor8654 Месяц назад
A few things, they use the same bags and top cases. They're both Hogs, but the RT (615 Lbs 279 Kg) is more like a piglet, next to the GTL (789 Lbs 358Kg) and that's a 174 Lbs - 79 Kg difference. The only time I notice the vibration is when I'm stopped. The RT costs way less, for a bike that holds the same amount of gear as the GTL.

I have a 2024 model which is the same as your 23 model but all in triple black. There is a few things that annoy me, the docking station for your mobile which doesn’t fit my apple 14+ especially when you cant fit a charging cable and the self charging system i dont know if it worked, it was a total pain getting my mobile out and the fear of dropping it so i tried blue toothing it when it it was in my jacket pocket, but the phone was hot..so switched the blue tooth off. I cant understand why BMW didnt just build in a sat nav system into the screen, after all it is a tourer! Im away to possibly get a Garmin sat nav fitted above the TFT screen, also why did they make the controls so difficult to use to get the heated grips and seat? You shouldnt need to distract from looking where your riding... Apart from that, nice bike to run. I find it a tad heavy compared to my previous BMW tourers.
@motor8654
@motor8654 6 месяцев назад
I've given up even trying to connect up to this bike with my phone. It loses the signal all the time, and then you have to pull over, and mess around getting up and running again. This is my biggest disapointment with the bike, not using the nav, because of the stupid engineering. They should have kept the Garmin GPS nav, like before. I use a Garmin Zumo XT, and it always works, because it's signal is GPS, and not your phone Wifi. I also miss the analog gauges too. I use one of the favorite buttons for both the grips, and the seat heaters.

In some circles, upgrading from a wet head R1200RT to a shift cam R1250RT might be considered a marginal improvement. Going from an "analog" R1250RT to a "TFT" one might be considered even less so considering the expense involved. Why did you feel the need to do so? I had a R1200RT that I changed to a R1250RS but I lost her in a crash this summer. I just picked up a new "23 RT and, while it's a definite improvement over my old RT, if I had it to do over (and not crash!) I might have been better off just keeping the old RT.

@motor8654
@motor8654 Год назад
@@daveyator I feel that way too. Having a separate GPS was nice and it never confused the bike. With the TFT you'll need to download the map where you are in case of poor cell coverage. I've read that most guys are having to use a separate phone just for the bike. With the way everything integrates with the bike, a cell call can make you have to pull over and reload the app, kinda crazy. I think I will also use a bike only (second phone) too.

I mounted a Garmin on my right handlebar for trips out of state, but the connectivity is my only gripe with the '21 model. They really need to patch in Apple CarPlay/Android Auto with a software update, if that's possible. I didn't expect to use the adaptive cruise much, but I love that feature now.
