Today I'll be showing you the process of hardwiring in my valentine one radar detector. This method requires no soldering or wire splicing! Super easy! I got this off of amazon for about $40 bucks. It was a little pricey, but well worth the money! If you have any questions feel free to ask!

Watched your video and it was very helpful in figuring out how to get things apart and which wires you tapped into. I installed a radar detector in my 2009 328i xdrive today. I didn't care for those push in terminals and wound up soldering a couple of taps for the power cord. Everything worked out well and the car didn't throw any codes. Thanks for posting!

This is for all the dummies like me. I have a 2007 e90 335i with rain sensors. I tried every combination to do this on the plug that connects to the mirror. I got one combo to work but it stayed on all the time. So after some frustration and many hours I decided to try to tap into the rain sensor. It only has three wires. Red brown and white. Red to red black to brown and it worked perfectly. Starts up when key is turned on and powers down when the car is shut off.

@@Skinnybeam I didn’t realize until later when I scanned the car but it threw a code for over voltage on that sensor. Not sure if it affects anything or not but guess I’ll find out when it rains lol

I bought the cheap, 15” three-pack from Amazon and they were a few inches too short for my e90. I couldn’t mount my radar detector where I wanted to and it didn’t level out correctly. I will try out the kit you used but in 20”. The excess can always be tucked.

I noticed you tapped into the wire from the car. Can you do the same thing but with the wire from the connector of the accessory.

Get the long kit if you do this. I got the mid length one and I'll barely have room to put it in between the headliner and mirror

so do you plug in the taps in a space thats open after checking with your meter? or do u stick it in along with the wire you confirmed is good to tap in to?

You should confirm voltage with the meter first

Jd cars hey nice intro , i have question , does your car have tweeters from factory ? Im asking you because mine doesn't so im looking for a piece that has tweeters or the hole for the tweeter inside , PLEASE IT WILL HELP ME A LOT IF WE CAN TALK IN PRIVATE TO SEND YOU PICTURES , btw i watch you from Perú!

i was thinking of doing the same on my car but after i've researched a little bit it seems that you will have some faults when you scan you can interface. On bmw you can't simply hardwire what you want when you want because all the current is measured and if you have a big drainage then the car will know and give you a warning ... Nice video though ;) And my single variant is tapping directly on the battery in the trunk and after that routing the cable to the front of the car. Thumbs up for the clean instal ;)

Routing a wire to the front is A LOT more work. I have yet to experience any fault codes. The Valentine One draws pretty low current. Thank you though!

I cannot find a suitable wire in an E63. For example, the passenger airbag sensor seems to be a good choice. However the voltage starts at 11.xV then drops to 3.6v and stay there. Any suggestion?

I would not mess with the airbag sensor. Try the cigarette lighter socket.

that green/white wire isnt working for me. Is there any other wire in that bundle that will work as well?

I stopped searching after I found that one to work...and I'm not sure of any others that work. I suggest you use a voltmeter to locate another wire that will work.

Hey JD, thanks for the video, I am looking to hardwire my dashcam to my F10, and was not looking forward to pulling a wire all the way to the trunk to tap off the battery. This video gave my the inspiration for tapping off the cabin lights to a circuit that's always on. Thanks for the idea, I hope to start making a few video like yourself. Take care.

How's the detector working? 40 bucks for a good radar detector is actually really cheap. Do you have any reasonable guess on how far away it can pick up a signal from? Yeah I do stupid shit lol I want as much time as possible to slow down before getting to the cop it's detecting

This one was not 40 bucks... but its working great! Has close to a mile range.
