Only video showing how the ebrake assembly latches together. Thanks. Saved me a bunch of trial and error.

This video was the most useful video for this job on RU-vid. I honestly watched go many of them and none really felt “right”. You covered everything! Including torque specs. Thank you so much for making this video.

I want to echo the appreciation of your no-nonsense informative videos! I watch these for any tips I can find and using the flat head to expand the spring and just push it in was a good one. I would’ve started with pliers trying to expand and insert. You’ve got a better approach for sure!

AWESOME VIDEO!....THIS...is the PROPER way to do a emergency brake shoe overhaul.....only difference is you don't need to bleed the fluid just push the piston back in and i replaced ALL the hardware just to be safe.

I noticed the auto store replacement hardware was cheaper quality than OEM. So, I stuck with the OEM hardware, since it was still perfectly good.

Great video!! I pulled the expander out and was wondering if it was damaged from the removal. Thank you for making this video!

Definitely grease on callipers pins for me and always will. I use red rubber grease that doesn't affect the rubber.

Thanks for your video. I need your lights for a minute please. My drum brake is atm engaged. I accidentally engaged it with the rotor off. So the car expanded them and then gave me an error 'parking brake failed'. What should I do to release it so I can put the rotor back on? Both fronts are ok and so is the rear right - all have their calipers and rotors installed. Should I try to dismantle the rear left drum brake while expanded? or should I get in the car turn switch on, apply brake and release parking brake by pressing the button down? The car is X6 E71 with drum brake like yours activated with a button.

I really need to have the back brakes overhauled completely on my 2000 pre-LCI E39 523i. How much time will it take for a professional mechanic to do both sides, including replacing pads and discs? Is it doable in one day?

Thanks for your video. I’ve seen these shoes in place in two different directions. In some pictures it’s the straight edge on top where the adjuster sits and in others it’s the one with steps sitting the adjuster while other end holding the cable expander!. What is the right orientation/placement of the shoes?
@OnTheFenceEconobox
@OnTheFenceEconobox 3 года назад
I think they are symmetric mirror equals. I don't think there is a top vs. bottom shoe. Hope you figure it out.
@bigchaze

I can’t get the top spring back on. It looks too small to reach across. Am I doing something wrong? I put the old shoes back on thinking maybe the wrong one was shipped. Still can’t put the spring on the old ones either. Smh
@OnTheFenceEconobox
@OnTheFenceEconobox 3 года назад
It is a PITA to get that spring back on. Keep at it, and try different tools. Also, you can try to use Drum Brake Spring Pliers, but I don't think I ended up using them. They may help you. I bet you can borrow from the local service station since they barely ever use the tool. www.amazon.com/Performance-Tool-W175-Spring-Pliers/dp/B00BR1BV8Q/

At 4:36 I say "screw", but I meant "spring" Make sure you didn't swap the springs, they are two different sizes. Thin spring with the star adjusted, fat spring with the expander.

@@OnTheFenceEconobox the one with the most coils is on the bottom, correct? The least coils goes on top? It just seems like the hinge is keeping the shoes from getting close to each other thus creating more space so that the spring ends don’t meet.

pretty sure i saw someone use a cable tie for pulling springs back in place, then cut it off once in. hopefully i will get the shoes tomorrow, got everything else waiting.

No grease on the slide pins?? No adjustment of the parking brake shoes??
@OnTheFenceEconobox
@OnTheFenceEconobox 3 года назад
Nope. BMW TIS explicitly says not to grease slide pins. Parking brakes were adjusted off camera.

First time I seen brake pads changed with no lubricant at all. No cleaning nothing.. And the dirt and grime that was inside the wall wells was terrible. Did that car have not one wash day at all?...😳😞
