Just a little fun comparison today :).
I think the older BMW 1150R bikes can be a great value on the used market, if you are looking at doing some serious touring!
BUT the S1000R is an absolutely incredible machine.....it all depends on what you are trying to do out there on the road.
Jesus REALLY does Love you! :)

Spot-on review! I own and ride a R1150R. Yes, they're different machines by design, they feel, ride and accelerate differently. S1000R (inline 4) takes off like a rocket. Agree that R1150R (boxer engine) is the one to own if the idea is to buy one bike. R1150R can be bought for $3k to $4.5 depending on the condition.

The R1150 bikes are such a steal aren't they? I'd like to try an RnineT this year as well. If I find a good deal on one, I might scoop it up. I hope they are as reliable as the R1150 bikes though!

I have a 2003 R1150R I bought for $6,100, had 10,068 miles. I’ve had it 5 mo and put 3,500 mi on it so far. I still haven’t twisted it all the way in first yet or topped it out, plenty fast.

Thanks for different and interesting comparison. good to get an impartial review. i returned to riding after a 30 year gap (used to ride 70s 2 strokes now have a BMW R1150R. Moved to Spain where twisties are 5 minutes away and touring is beautiful and the rest of Europe not too far away. I have been thinking of switching to a newer version BMW R12R for less weight and more go (plus traction & ABS may be handy for those OMG moments) but love the old world little to go wrong but as you highlt in this and your other vids its a good, do all ride. the best bike in the worrld is the one you"re on at the time. good channel content and good luck.

Thanks for the kind words! The R1150R really is an excellent do everything bike. I've never been on the R1200, but I was just looking for another BMW the other day, and the older R1200's aren't very expensive either, at least not here in the US. It sounds like you have some pretty amazing riding right outside your door there, that's pretty incredible! How long have you had your R1150R for?

The 1150 r feels like a proper old school bmw and is a delight to ride, look at and feels substantial. The newer bmws although excellent have lost that hewn from granite feeling!

Hi Gary, I definitely agree! The older boxer twin machines feel like tough beasts! I've heard of them going over 200k miles as well. The S1000R is incredibly fast, don't get me wrong, but I doubt if they are going to be getting that kind of longevity. But I guess they probably weren't designed for that either.

Ones more a Sports bike (plus much newer = newer tech), vs the older Tourer on the right. There really is no comparison! Your outcome was no surprise.
@PastorMattMoto
@PastorMattMoto Год назад
You are right, there is no comparison tech wise, or in the horsepower department! I think there is in the comfort department though, I guess it really depends on what kind of riding you are looking at doing. If you are looking for an inexpensive touring machine, I think the R1150R can be a good option :).

The price and shaft drive of the R1150 R does it for me. & hopefully come late spring will do!! Nice video. Thanx.

The issue with the grease on the drive shaft affects the K75 models. I owned a 2002 1150RA for 13 years. I had the electric brakes option.

The thing about the orange is that it's nothing like the apple. I agree with the comments so far that the apple is the most desirable but only if you are partial to a bit of fruit.

Thanks again Francis! These two bikes are pretty night and day, but they were made with different purposes in mind for sure. I think they both have BMW quality in common though :).

Hey bro question I have the r1150r and when I run it the fans are really loud but I looked at a few videos and most of them sound that way is that a problem or is that just how they sound because of the no radiator
@PastorMattMoto

I actually don't believe mine had a fan on the oil cooler! They can be installed aftermarket, from what I've seen online. So maybe a previous owner installed one on yours?

Hey can you tell me what the differences between a 2002 R1150RS and a R1150RT ?? Any opinions would be appreciated Thanks Todd

@JLo1960 5 месяцев назад
The RT is a sports tourer, emphasis being on the tourer, though it can hustle through the Twisties as good as a sports bike (just ask the UK Police bikers). It's a sit up and beg riding position, very comfortable and with the electric screen you can ride for hours with no aches or pains. The RS has the same engine but has less bodywork and a non adjustable smaller screen. It also has slightly dropped style handlebars so you are canted forward. Not so comfortable for distance and more for sporty riding. Both great bikes, just depends on what you want.
@PastorMattMoto
@PastorMattMoto 3 месяца назад
Thanks for the excellent reply to Todd about the RS vs the RT! The R1150R can definitely handle some twisties, it's just heavier than some modern bikes that would be used for backroad carving :)

I was wondering what brand of R1150R fairing and where did you get it?
@PastorMattMoto
@PastorMattMoto Месяц назад
The fairing actually came on the bike from the previous owner. It's absolutely huge, and blocks a ton of wind, but you do get some headshake above 80mph though.
@Chucka10
@Chucka10 Месяц назад
@@PastorMattMoto I’ve been looking for a fairing / windshield for mine but no luck. I ordered one from eBay and it was coming from Poland but the tracking stopped in NYC Customs so they refunded my money after 3 months. Actually seller was ok and just wanted to see if it would get out of customs so gave a month and then refunded. If you want to sell yours with the hardware, let me know what you want for it.

1150r is too heavy too slow too old. Nervous in low gears. The indicator system is stupid. But i stil kinda like it. Its really kinda nimble. And i love to burn my shins in the engine

You are right it is a bit of a heavy bike, but the weight is pretty low so it's not too bad. The added weight does make for a stable ride on the freeway, but it depends on what your motorcycling goals are you know. If you are looking for the perfect canyon carver, the R1150R is definitely not it.

When the Roadster first came out, it was known as the “Curve Wizard“. A great deal of the ability Carve Canyon roads resides with the skill of the Rider.
