2012 x5 35i had same issue after it rained. I don’t have the fuel relay where you do and I don’t have the 20 amp fuse you pulled but I do have the 20 amp fuse that yours doesn’t have. Pulled my 20 amp, there was corrosion on one of the stems of the fuse. Cleaned it with wire brush and electrical spray cleaner. Popped back in. Engine fired up perfectly.
MY MAN!!!,,,, I gotta thank you sincerely for making this video,,, you just sparred me a lot of money and headaches!! I had the pump relay go on me before and it was doing the same thing this time,,, just wouldn’t start,,, this time it was just that “20” fuse for the relay! Boom! She’s up and running! Just got back from taking it for a ride and had to say thank you very much,,, great work on your video btw,,, keep it up man,,, all the best to you
Thank you so much for the positive comment. I'm so glad that my video could actually help you. And yes I will keep up the good work. Apologies for the late response for some reason your comment was blocked and I didn't know until today
Great video. A year ago, My 2008 X5 3.0 E70 had a faulty FP Relay that was causing intermittent starting; once I changed the relay the intermittent starting went away. thanks for sharing the 5 points.
Bro thanks for all that info. I've been without car for almost a year due to that problem, went to over 6 mechanic shops and they just robbed me. I'll try out and keep you updated if it works
This video was SUPER INFORMATIVE & Clear instructions. Although I drive an 07 550i i'm having some start up issues & just bought an alternator & battery, still wont start up. Just checking relays/fuses (which I will do) can definitely save you time & money Thank you
thank you so much for this video. now I got to find out why fuse keeps getting popped! thanks again you helped me avoid getting towed which is huge when you can't get it into neutral with the shifter because it won't start
No problem I'm glad that my video could help you. You need to buy you the little red key that shifts the car into neutral I have to buy me one also cuz I got stuck and couldn't get the car into neutral Red Emergency neutral key amzn.to/3Q1P0SU
@@JOATD I thought I needed that too but under the cup holder cover there’s nothing for that tool to turn. It’s so infuriating! I’ll post a pic so you don’t think I’m nutty
@m0du1us do you have the V8 twin-turbo if sold the neutral switch is on the transmission up under the vehicle. The one that don't have the red key under the cup holder the only way to put it into neutral is on the transmission itself under the car.
Great video, thank you so much just got back in t9 town after a trip and x5 did this luckily it started 5minutes later and I made it home. Time to test everything
Great video, well thought out. The other common issue is the transfer pump behind the driver (left hand drive). Requires removing the fuel pump to disconnect lines and connector.
Don't count on just hearing the pump run to tell you it's good. Listening to mine run you'd have thought it was working. It was running, moving fuel, but couldn't build enough pressure. Test the fuel pressure on the rail for a more definitive answer. I did check a bunch of other stuff unnecessarily before I decided it had to be a fuel supply issue and found myself a gauge. If I had just followed this video, and not done that, I might still be chasing my tail trying to figure out why my X5 wouldn't start. Good advice otherwise.
What you end up doing? I changed the VCG on mine but now won't start. I hear the pump and seem to have pressure, but nothing comes out the rail. Any advice would help. Thanks
Very good information I even went and checked out your other vid on replacing the fuel pump e70! Quick question if it’s possible anyway u can guess how long can it last doing them long cranks before it really goes out cuz I just installed a new agm battery thinking it would solve the issue but I guess not I did had a bad battery as well my car is high miles and it needs a fuel pump frm what I learned hear frm you on you’re channel which BMW experts were not able to figure it out I appreciate for the help and will be waiting on you’re reply and keep it going you’re doing a superb job!
Thank you for the positive comment. I'm glad that my video could help you. Now for your question to be honest with you it could go out at any time it's not something that gets hot from the long cranks then suddenly goes out it just goes out whenever it feels like it and then one day it'll start working again. I suggest getting it replaced as soon as possible.
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS DIAGNOSTIC INFORMATION!!!!!!! Tremendous assistance for my troubleshooting. Your presentation was awesome and clear. Much Appreciated. It's below zero here right now so I will get back to you once I have tried this but your process has me expecting to find the problem along this route! Much appreciated!
Hi Buddy, amazing video! Can it also be one of these problems, if my car does not start from time to time? And also if when it's starting but turning off again within a few seconds? Btw what kind of tool were you using there to test the power of battery, fuses and so on? Thanks for help in advance!
@@corridosbarron3566 sounds to me like you need a new battery. You need to take your card to get the alternator and the battery checked. I would start there first.
Awesome video !!! Thank you a lot! I have a 2009 e70 3.0, ever since I took the car for a factory recall on the fuel pump, and had the pump replaced at a local BMW dealership, I have had a problem with the engine shutting off when the fuel level is at 1/4 tank, as soon as I top off 1 gallon of fuel, the engine will start. So I have replaced the pump and the sending unit for few times, and the problem still persists. Recently, the engine shuts off even when the fuel level is at 3/4 tank. What do you think the problem is ? Thank you very very much if you can give me some hint
Thank you for the positive comment. Everything that you are explaining is the same exact thing that was happening to my X5. Half a tank of gas won't start. Quarter tank of gas won't start. I would let it sit for a couple days go out and it was startup. Did you do everything in the video especially the relay. Apologies for the late response for some reason your comment was blocked and I didn't know until today
Thanks for replying. I did everything you did and suggested in the video. but I think the problem wasn't fuel delivery related. I pulled some codes from the OBD, they are power management-related. And the car shut off at a complete stop at a traffic light, the obd gave a code of 2DEB, and the battery voltage was really low. Now i suspect it might be the alternator, or the voltage regulator in the alternator? share me your thoughts please @@JOATD
@@mbperfection yeah that's why you always have to check the voltage of your battery to see if your battery is maintaining voltage. Sounds to me like it's the alternator also. You need to get a tool that test the alternator and the battery. If you take a look in my Amazon store I have a great TOPDON tool that will test both the alternator and the battery and the starter www.amazon.com/shop/jackofalltradesdre/list/3MXF18ZXCKFVT?ref_=cm_sw_r_mwn_aipsflist_aipsfjackofalltradesdre_RNG1AB80QQPWE9Z8SHVG
Hey guys l spent a lot of money thinking it was my cooling fan, battery , spark plugs, relays and coolant sensors but it turns out that it was my ignition coils so might wanna checks them coils first…. Good luck to everyone out there
Thanks.just got a project e46 330i and having starting issues witch I had to replace pump n level cause both was deteriorated badly.crank no start.interior did get wet a bit but am still on it.going test pump like you did directly.
E46 330i is a nice pick. I hope everything checks out in good condition. I'm glade my videos could help you. Check out my BMW repair playlist. I have multiple Repair videos. Please Like and subscribe the videos you enjoy.
@@JOATD my 120i is currently having the drivetrain warning and the engine wont start and if it does start, the engine shuts off on its own. The dealer wants to replace a fuel pump. Im so stressed cuz I don't think the fuel pump is faulty
@@diskitubeany update ? I’m currently dealing with a similar issue after attempting to give someone a jump start. I first got a fuel pump warning and the car shut off. I disconnected the battery and the code went away and car drove fine for about a month when i started to experience issues again and instead of getting “fuel pump” i get all sorts of codes (dtc, dsb, dsc, transmission malfunction, start off assistance inactive. Sometimes the car starts with no issues or warnings , and other times it won’t start or in the middle of driving the codes reappear and it shuts off.
Technically yes but the fuses may be in different areas you would have to look up the location. But yes still comes with a battery, fuses, relay, and fuel pump.
@Sharesss 1. No crank on a high mileage x5 is very often a starter relay. 2. CAS' have a soft failure mode, in that they lose communications with the EWS -- but in that case it's a crank-no-start.
So mine is x5 2007 diesel engine, after long parking, of about 6months and changed oil, it wouldn't start. I don't the tools for the testing but i figured out the diesel pumping was okay but my issue is the glow plugs. One snapped inside while loosing it and had to bring down the top to remove the pieces, i hope it starts after this.
For the last couple of years my 2010 328xi doesn't want to start after putting gas, (cold weather only)eventually it would start, but last week it died on me while driving. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Did you make sure that all of the fuel lines that you disconnected were connected properly always do a push-pull check. If any of those lines are not connected properly you lose pressure. Apologies for the late response for some reason your comment was blocked and I didn't know until today
I appreciate the video. I replaced the fuel pump, fuel filter and battery. When I press down on the brake pedal, I can hear the Pump loud and clear, but the car won’t turn over. When I press the start button W/O the break pedal, I can hear 2 clicks in the engine bay directly in front of the steering wheel. Something I’m missing?
@@allday20691 another question when you press the start stop button with your foot on the brake does the car attempt to start Or does it not make any noise or just a clicking noise.
I have a 2006 x5 series an while driving i turned the corner an my truck cut off itwill not start back up,its turning but wont catch, all happened since this morning,I put gas in there but still wont start, everything else seems to be fine...but i believe i need fuel pump replaced,im not sure but i think!...
Had a similar problem but with a Dodge. Here’s what fixed it: replacing variable valve timing solenoids, crank sensors, and cam sensors. You need to replace all of them together or you could potentially run into the same issue.
Hi bro ... pls help my e90 320 msport parked very nice no problem today radio was not playing then i checked feus n replaced the radio is shap... the problem is tge car is just cranking no start😢

Hi brother... my x5 e53, 2005 model 3.0d is struggling to start, everytime i have to turn the ignition many times on and off after sometime thats when i can hear the fuel pump running then the car starts, once it starts it runs smooth it doesn't cut off. when we check it we find out that sometimes the voltage is not reach to the fuel pump, do you have an idea of what the problem might be? When a relay is bad does it sometimes pass current to the pump and sometimes not? Help me pliz
i have e65 750 Li 2008 i went to put my key in and everything went dead. my key fob is stuck in the ignition i only have the key to manually unlock and lock the doors … no lights or nothing come on. do i need a new battery? i just charged my battery the day before bc my car was sitting for a long period of time while fixing it, everything was fine yesterday test drove it now today it’s dead.
Bruh, please help me , my E90 325i is cranking but not starting. There is no spark.break with a foot light is on, together with a lift up mode light. Changed crank sensor nothing, changed valvetronic nothing. Please help. This happened on a rainy day after driving the car without the underneath cover. Pleasehelp
There are a hundred different reasons why it might not start... blown fuse, fried DME, clogged exhaust, damaged injector or ignition wiring, failed cam or crank sensors, failed valvetronic actuator, lack of oil causing damaged top end, insufficiently charged battery, failed battery -> dme wiring terminal under the battery, etc... step one is to hook up a scan tool, preferably a BMW-specific tool or INPA/ISTA+
09 328i my car doesn’t start and just cranks like the video. When it does it sounds really rough and i get all sorts of codes (fuel pump, dtc malfunction, dsb malfunction, dsc malfunction, transmission malfunction, start-off assistance inactive. When it starts the warning lights go away and the car runs good and check engine light is gone. However when im driving the car will drive fine but out of nowhere it shutters and it eventually turns off and the codes come back on. It happens back and forth, This started to happen after a jump start. In the process of jump starting my car died and i got a fuel pump light but that light hasn’t came back in a month and i started to get all the other codes mention above. Battery, alternator are good. I’m thinking it could maybe be a ground issue? but once i get home I’ll check all these im hoping i can get the car to work.
I had a similar issue - and it ended up being a ground issue with the battery hold-down (which was arcing with the positive terminal of my battery). Hope that helps!
@@JNick-kz2tc thanks! I had a guy who came to check it out with ISTA or whatever it’s called, he told me possibly a ground issue or possibly alternator. He added a extra ground to the alternator and We test drove it the next day and it shut off while idling but it didn’t throw any codes, simply just turned off. Turned back on and it’s been 2 months since its shut off, and I never replaced the alternator or battery, I’m hoping it was just that lol
Hello my friend I have a 2003 BMW 760li The generator is not working and I have changed 5 used generators and the problem is still the same I purchased two new batteries and checked all the wires to no avail Can you help me figure out the problem?
@@JOATD I just purchased a new alternator from the dealer as well as a new battery, but still the problem is gone The car does not charge, and after a day the battery dies completely
@user-mq3yy6vb9g okay so what you need to do is check all of your fuses and relays so under the hood in the trunk area. That's where I would start first. If everything's fine with all the fuses and relays the second thing I would do is at the battery terminal I will run a test on the alternator to see if the alternator is actually sending power to the battery. So it's either a bad fuse a bad relay or a bad ground to the chassis. Check all those things first and let me know
you see how your rpm is going up mine is not doing that I also changed crank relay sensor and the fuel pump also checked all the fuses they are all good I'm stuck
The battery has to be charged up enough to send the correct amount of volts to the starter. If the battery is in good condition, then you need to check the starter.
Plugged my car in and it threw this code ( no message (0XAA),Receiver EKPS, Transmitter DME DDE) changed the fuel pump, fuel filter and control module and still no start, i found that when i turn on the ignition the pump makes a loud buzzing noise and dosent stop, there is also a 5 second delay until the car acctually cranks after pressing button, if you could help me out id be very grateful 😁😁
My car has the same long crank as your and the pump is original. It does start after a few attemps. I dont have tool like you. Should I go ahead and replace the pump? Thanks
@QuanNguyen-vi1fi I would always result to the fuel pump as a last resort. So if you drive somewhere and turn the car off the car won't start for a while. And it doesn't always happen fuel pump going bad
Not true, if the battery of a BMW is not fully charged it does not provide the starter with enough voltage to start the engine. And having a low battery does not allow the fuel pump sufficient voltage to Prime. And so on and so forth. It's a BMW it has a lot of modules they all run from the battery.
