Hey sub family, The Specifications of (E83/E82/E84) BMW doesn't recommend replacing fluids other than oil and brake fluid as they have an unfortunate lifetime fluid this is not necessarily True. Although they say their "lifetime fluid" never needs to be replaced, it actually does need replaced.
The transfer case fluid needs replaced every 30,000 to 60,000 miles.
The transfer box is a component specific to 4 wheel drive vehicles. This component serves as the differential for the axles of a car so to speak. Its purpose is to distribute power to both the front
and rear axles.
Regularly replacing transfer case fluid is important for the proper functioning of your 4X4 system. It helps extend the life of the vehicle's drivetrain components and ensures the system operates smoothly, which can improve performance and fuel efficiency. If you wait too long to have the transfer case serviced, it could make it impossible to shift-and it could completely damage the gearbox.
Also Low or dirty transfer case fluid can affect your transmission's ability to shift gears. It can also result in your car unexpectedly falling out of four-wheel drive. Loud noises while driving - As the transfer case fluid loses its lubricating properties, friction will occur inside.
