turbocharger problem , started with horrible whistle from turbo, today removed turbocharger and find this . . . Turbo cartridge has a big play , also visible some small aluminium particles , and from exhaust side are broken one rotor blade . . .

Hi i have a BMW e60 530d 2004 model with the same problem. Firstly i was thinking that was the exhaust manifold and i did replace for a new one. Then they told me that was the turbo and i also replaced for a new one. The noise still remain. Please help because i am lost and don't know what to do.

it is hard to say anything without proper looking , if manifold and turbo replaced (to new ones) than something else making noise, did you try remove drive belt and try without belt? How about dpf filter and catalyst , maybe blocked and gases go out trough place like gasket where do not have to ?

Hello, i have the same problem, turbo hissing like in your video from 0:25 to 0:30, i have this hissing from 2300 to 3000rpm, some power loss and from 3000rpm up hissing is gone and car working perfectly it pull better like +15kW above 3000rpm. I changed all hoses, and intercooler. Did u have too power loss? Thanks :) Sorry for english, im from Slovakia. Cheers.

I believe that you will need a new turbocharger cartridge. In my opinion, it is best to replace the whole unit with the same or a better one.

I have a slight whistle on acceleration- is that a problem to be worried about?

maybe just a normal whistle , but depends how loud it is... can be louder if DPF/CAT removed , also check for boost leak , hoses, intercooler etc

Mine just started doing that, today. Really pssd me off. But I suppose if I get a new turbo I'll get a bit of power back again. I think it's been dodgy for a while. If it's not one thing it's another

Fuck men for me it happened to day it lost all the power didn’t even spin now its back but it makes this noise

Just replaced the turbo, oil & filter and all is good again, no whistle noise and a bit more power too....yay. The play in the shaft didnt feel excessive on the old unit, seen far worse.
