Ive just bought a 2006 e53 X5, and have the same transmission. You are the first vid ive seen mentioning the 17mm fill plug. Yesterday i removed the plastic undertray from the car, then saw that there was no fill plug on the side !! I was reluctant to touch that 17mm plug. But now you have given me the confidence !! I have 5 litres of new fluid so will just try to pump that in over couple of attempts. Car has 110,000km, so 70,000miles so about the correct time to change it. Bought the 17mm allen key and when i openes the fill plug, fluid started pouring out. Opened the drain and got 4lits out. Pumped in 2 litres of new fluid and it started to spill out. So went for a short drive, came back and opened fill plug and fluid spilled out ?? So watched ur vid again and saw thst you need engine running in park to get other 2 litres in !! So thanks again, managed to get the 4 litres of new Febi fluid in. If ive still got the car in 50,000km time, i might do it again and change the filter aswell ??
@arnietwo hi my freind 👍, as far as I know they usually change that oil and the pan filter on 100,000 miles , with the life time oil👌 mines is on 90,000 miles so I’ll do mines very soon 😁
@@dannyspalding8639 there's 10 quarts in the transmission and the fluid is expensive so I made sure the replacement transmission was completely empty so I didn't waste any fluid. It came without fluid and I only drained the old one to make it easier to remove.
@@robbrcnstuff4220 was it the ZF fluid? I’ve bought the meyle version 7 litres I hope it’s same quality. I’m hoping to purchase more and do a fill drain to dilute old fluid. Thanks for replying 👍
