Don't drive it in Sport Plus Suspension! BMW M said that Sport Plus on Suspension is only for smooth racetracks. They recommended Sport for the Nordschleife so you should use Sport on the Autobahn. I agree that some people might want a Carbon Ceramic Brake but I really love the fact, that this car is so hardcore Edit: Carbon Ceramic Brakes can be configured and bought, thanks to Dan for writing that!
Common sense right there. If people want a fast comfortable X5, the M50i exists and it can be optioned with 2 axle air suspension. If 530hp isn't enough we know this engine can make 650hp+ very easily with a remap.
People said the f10 M5 was a super rough ride yet I found it perfectly comfortable for being an M5. After 3 years of owning it never felt uncomfortable in the car
Yes it tbh it’s a big difference once you go for a drive after a “normal” car. Everything does feel super hard and it’s difficult to imagine living with it. But it still works because you just get used to it. And it feels nice to have a car that’s always taut sort of. Like it’s always there for you no need to change into sport or anything. I’ve never driven the m5 but the xm models are very nice to live with. The only time ever I’d find myself wanting a softer suspension is when I drove cross country for the whole day. But that’s not every day.
@@juicedelavie6212 That's a pretty broke/middle class mindset. Almost all M owners who can actually afford the car care about the petrol price but it doesn't stop them from filling up regularly. Your argument is essentially saying, "i'm rich so who cares if this week the petrol prices are 4X what they were last week". There's a huge difference between logically caring about the price and financially caring about the price. There's a reason why you always see low income/middle income walking around with designer brands and wealthy people being price conscious.
@@sueddo2634 when you drive an M sports car you don't care about the petrol. you expect it to guzzle gas. you bought a sports car you know what you're getting into. I drive an X5 and petrol prices don't really bother me too much, just dont ask me to pay 500$ for a full tank and I'm good. The most important thing is how much distance I can get with a full tank before my next refuel. My boss drives a 488, it guzzles gas like crazy and he doesn't care about the fuel when he drives that car. But he only drives that car on weekends. usually he comes to the office with his Lexus rx.
I am glad your still honest and open when you have access to theses cars your not biased etc How big is the difference in term of comfort and smoothest between this and let's say the most comfortable configured 7 series car from BMW ? how large is the gap ?
If you'd spec the 7 Series with 17" wheels the difference would be insanely big. Actually, the difference in terms of comfort would be huge even with 20" wheels. X5M Competition has steel springs and a very high spring rate. Being a luxury limo, 7 Series has air suspension and is obviously much more softly sprung than the X5M.
@@gieltimmermans because they wanted to make the thing handle as well as they could. The problem with that is the fact that you get a bone-shaking ride, which is unacceptable in an SUV. I'm sure they could make it handle brilliantly even with air suspension...
was riding x5m competition as well. Acceleration was outstanding, and unbelievable, but definitely it was harsh ride. Every bump was felt ( even in normal mode ) . Not for me car, would rather choose something more comfortable, or less extreme such as X5m50d, or anything with pneumatic suspension.
This isn’t too hard at all don’t get what y’all want it’s a top model of the x5 it’s the m and even the competition as well that’s what you want from a car with 625 hp
My friend just gets this today, and I drove it. Omg, what a car. You forget about everything you don't like with this beast. This car is fun if you have the $$$ go get this you will have a lot of fun but pay attention to the speed .
that car is the wallpaper on my desktop. What an impressive machine!! M5 + X5, the two best vehicles in BMW's lineup mated together to make the most impressive model in their lineup for 2020.
The car is the wallpaper on mine cause I'm trying to make it motivate me to work. It's one of my dream cars, because I can't get a m sedan in the US cause everyone here drives huge cars and sedans would be terrible to live with, but the x5m is the best compromise for that so I'm just dreaming that one day I'll get it. If I wasn't in the us I would get a m3/m5 so fast.
Seems like you need to train your back if youre that delicate. You seem like a man in his forties or fifties so its really recomendable that you train your back, and you will be thankfull in your elder days
I think bmw is trying to go back to its roots with their M models, making it stiff and sporty as possible while the x5 m50i m550i m340i are supposed to be the compromise between sport and luxury
Ceramic rotors do not increase stopping ability. They just last longer if you are tracking the car (i.e. you can do more laps at full speed) but despite the "competition" tag no one buys this car for racing.
I looked away from the screen for one moment and that's exactly when I heard him say " 240 thousand Euros ". My head literally snapped back at the TV and I actually said " Waarhhhh ?!? " . 😂 €240,000 !! I'm a bit confused to be honest.
I enjoyed your review but you have it all wrong. I’ve had my X5 Comp for 5 months and it takes time to understand the settings which BMW M division called me and actually explained the settings and answered all questions I had. Driving for a couple days or even a week is not enough time. The only problem with the brakes is that they squeak at low speeds, never experienced brake fade. If you want comfort, don’t get an suv from M division lol.
My daily drivers over the last 20 years were an E46 M3 followed by an E90 M3 Competition, so would I really be bothered by the stiffness of the X5M like this guy was? Coming from other stiff M cars?
It’s great if a bit far-fetched to believe that no one would pull out on you when you’re flying down the outside line. As a biker also, having done many miles abroad in the outside Lane , and being able to flick from car to car with the twist of the throttle, it’s got to be either controlled or very lucky....
Because of the EU regulations the new cars have a filters to quite down the sound and a soft limiter to stop you from revving up your car above 4 thousand rpm if car companies don't have that they get sued
@@benmahanloo Oh I see. So now I understand why its silent compared to its competitors. However the 'why' question remains.. Thanks for the reply anyway!
@@benmahanloo Dude how do you know all that 😆 Thanks for the explanation! But you know I still wonder why BMW make it like that, why they purposely make it silent. We all know that v8 can rumble and is much louder. I just find it annoying that they're making them silent compared with other manufacturers.
I don’t necessarily agree with the ceramic breakes being an issue because you don’t buy an SUV to take it on the track? The tire wear would be immense. Then you buy an M5? I have the F85 X5 M and in my opinion you buy it because it offers high speed and high performance without comprimising leg room, luggage space while at the same time offering high riding position and ground clearance. The F85 is also a very stiff ride which I hated the first couple of months, but funny enough you get used to it after a while and once you do the X5 M must be one of the best handling SUV’s out there. Plus the breakes are included in the motorplan so it is not really a worry. I don’t have issues with the breakes losing performance even with hard driving. Would be great if you can verify the 0-100km/hr time in your reviews because BMW is often conservative with the official times.
It's very odd that BMW chose not give Carbon Ceramic brakes as an option for this car. They obviously have their reasons, but to some of us it doesn't make sense given the Competition designation. Maybe it has something to do with the weight of the vehicle and wear and tear on the CC discs? As far as outright comfort goes, perhaps your expectations are unrealistic when the X5M and X5 M50i exist. If you want a comfortable X5 cruiser to daily then choose 50i, not a Competition model.
AAJAA5 maybe Bmw don’t seem the value in producing CC discs specifically for use in the X5M. The discs in the other models might all to the same spec but with the heavier X5M they would need stronger bigger discs specifically for that car and manufacturing them might not be financially viable. Only Bmw really knows why…
AAJAA5 daily usability is definitely a factor. I’ve heard many people say that the CC brakes don’t work well when cold. Maybe the X5M breaches some upper weight limit Bmw have set for vehicles that use these CC brakes. The M8 and M5 are a shade under 2 tons do maybe the limit Bmw set is up to 2 tons. Just guessing at this point.
Can you get the camera down on your chest to have a good front view because you are tall that's make the car a little far and we see just one angle if you down it we can see more details ... Great reviews keep going ..
The X5 M Competition is much harder, cause this car is build for the Track. The normal X5 M is for Daily driving so you have to Chose the normal X5 M cause this is the X M50i just with the M5 Engine
[ Mahsokyu ] BMW USA confirmed there is no difference. m5 vs competition big difference, x3m vs competition rear stabilizer difference, x5m vs competition exactly the same.
I like the sound cars with a good engine but I still agree with the EU regulations. I can see how not everyone would like these sounds which penetrate in all houses and apartments
Very much disagree with the regulations. Those who rev these cars in cities and annoy others should be punished individually. What they have done is ban it for everyone, even those who bother no one. Generalizing and judging groups instead of individuals is banned in the German Grundgesetz. The emissions as well. For example, a Ferrari drives a fraction of the distance people travel in their Golf. A v12 Ferrari realisticly emits kilograms less. Even without any filters at all, far less harmful than ever single medium sized car. What they do with their regulations isn't just wrong and misleading. They are disregarding their own democratic values.
C'mon buddy....there is no way this vehicle should ever be thought to lose its "daily drivability". Keep in mind....IT IS A TRUCK. If you want a smooth, cushy ride then buy the X5 5.0. This is an M vehicle. Seriously.....what you are complaining about is the EXACT reason why the M3 and M5 are no longer driving machines. Although fast, they are numb-feeling and do not have the same driving qualities that the E30's, E46's, E92's, E28's ,E34's, E39's & E60's did to justify and deserve the "Ultimate Driving Machine" moniker. I actually believe that this X5M holds more true to its M-roots than the M-cars do, which is a shame because enthusiasts would prefer to enjoy the characteristics of a car. I love your channel and I'm a subscriber, but your comments struck a nerve with me. My first car was an oil burning E21 323i. It wasn't as fast as some late 80's muscle cars from that time, but all my buddies who drove it admitted it was much more fun to drive than cars with 100hp more. Now BMW has flipped. As driving enthusiasts, we'd all have more fun driving a ZL1 Camaro or GT350 Mustang than we would an M3 or M4.
add MSS suspension kit and get the best of both worlds, why BMW don't have a comfort suspension offering blows my mind. X5M Comp is so bone breaking hard.
We have a BMW X5 M from 2011 with 500hp but a 5 litres engine. This car is just insane. It's amazing to see that BMW can make a SUV to racecar. It's good effort
Glad ceramics aren't available in the states. A brake job is $10,000! If you're on the used market, never buy one with ceramic brakes unless you're specifically going to track the car. That said, why would you track an SUV?
22" wheels, and they look lost in those arches........ I don't like any of these huge, heavy, bloated, sports SUV's, but I'd take that engine and put it in my M140i !
what is a better SUV X5M competition / Audi RSQ8 / Mercedes GLC 63S. my thoughts Mercedes sounds best Audi is best looking and has rear-wheel steering for everyday i still pick Audi first and Mercedes second
