There were quite a few singers out there that tried to sing like Eddie Vedder, but other than sounding similar in that regard, STP didn't sound like some Pearl Jam rip-off. Core was a way heavier album compared to the average Pearl Jam album.
@@idkanymore9869 I am not implying either of them are better, but STP is different than PJ or their contemporaries. AIC is my favorite band of the genre; and again they are different.
Yeah, I never understood why everyone says all grunge sounds the same. I think they actually sound pretty different. Like no Alice in Chains album has a similar sound to their other albums so its hard for me to even classify their sound generally, STP is either trippy or heavy, and their heavier stuff kinda reminds me of Soundgarden in a way, but a little less heavy. Pearl Jam just sounds like a typical hard rock band. The biggest similarity for most of the bands is just drugs, and sometimes the music reflects it either in sound, lyrics, or both (STP's Tiny Music, Adhesive is a good example, or a lot of Alice in Chains songs, lyrically is obvious but when Layne's voice is monotone it reflects the lack of emotions that results from drugs, at least to me). But I was born in 2000, after it all happened, so I guess I have a different perspective anyway
Love STP and personally I think their music has aged quite well and has proven to be not anywhere near as derivative as everyone accused them of being at the time. That said though, this is hilarious as all hell LMFAO!
@@DSMTheEditor hey bro it’s a free country. I can say whatever the fuck I want 🤷🏼♂️ if you don’t like it , too fucking bad. I’ve never confused STP with Pearl jam.
I like the music better now. We can not only listen to but watch whatever we want. I remember MTV. And whatever was in the top 40 that's what they would play. All day long. Same song every 2 or 3 hours. And a lot of it sucked. Remember Milli Vanilli, color me bad, Gerardo, Snow, omg I could go on all day about the suck. Now I got Slayer on my screen whenever I want. TV is stupid. The internet rules. Everyone needs to just chill out and stop being offended and trying to sensor everything. Mtv had a few good shows. But not many. Most of it sucked.
Its a great song,my favourite 90s grunge song is probably black days or rain when i die but STP are up there with soundgarden and AIC as 1 of the best bands ever
@@tennisfan599 I love soundgarden but Chris Cornell did not sound good live. Scott and Layne were actually able to sound good live. He sounded even worse later on in his life
Red hair was the thing to have back in the summer of 1993. You got this guy doing "Plush" from STP and Perry Farrell of Porno for Pyros doing "Pets". Red haired people are cool Even Alie Ward has red hair, too.
Their first album was the greatest rock album of the 90's. And I'll include Nevermind in that mix. Pearl Jam had a couple good follow-up songs on later albums, but it's hard to top perfection when you achieve it first time out.
Yeah it's hard to do better than an album that already turned into a masterwork. But as long as the hits keep coming throughout the years, would that even matter?
Ten was the best album of the 90s. It's my personal favorite of all time. But the comment above implies that PJ never produced anything close to Ten. I'd disagree with that. I know a lot of people who think Vs is even better than Ten. I can see the point.
The main difference is the worst moronic trash were not held up on a social pedestal and made into billionaires. The Kardashians, Kanye, Cardi B (a walking toilet, ex ho, whatever she is) .... ZERO TALENT, no real substance .... but there they are ... on top! Throw in a flu hoax and you can keep this crap, I'll take the 80s-90s.
@Cat Egorical as I also remember, to diffuse the situation about mentioning that Kenny G is from Seattle back in 1992, you can then tell them that Jimi Hendrix was born in Seattle.
@@ellismarquez8410 pearl jam, soundgarden, nirvana, alice in chains did enough in the 90s to never suck for all time. This coming from a native new yorker. Keep rockin Seattle.
Beavis: that bear is cool. Butthead: it takes alot more than bears to make a video cool Beavis. Beavis: what if the bear was like taking a dump? Butthead: well, that might work.
I remember it played on a rotation hourly..mtv would play videos at night and at certain parts of the day and unless it was alternative nation or yo mtv raps then the same songs would play over and over but hourly..like at 6 :45 then 7: 45 then 8: 45 plush would play followed by nirvana all apologies and snoop dogg nothing but a g thing.
@@delilasloan8914 MTV ratings declined in the early 90's because they ran so many songs and artists into the ground, and a lot of this "alternative" stuff wasn't anything to write home about (neither was gangsta rap). Another big problem was that the alternative acts were often clearly uncomfortable being famous and doing interviews/promotion. So it's not easy to keep the public interested if the artists themselves are so aloof.
STP > Pearl Jam. Of all the grunge acts out there, they are the one band I don’t care. Best thing to happen to them was WCW ripped off one of their songs for Chris Jericho’s theme.
I remember when MTV aired video blocks of “Videos that don’t suck!” because Beavis and Butthead would like them. They ran Plush on a regular basis which is ironic, as Butthead says that STP does suck.
I don't understand why people always accused STP of being a knock off of Pearl Jam and other Seattle bands. Maybe they catered their sound a little to get some traction at the time but they certainly didn't sound like Pearl Jam. Pearl Jam always sounded blues oriented while STP was much heavier. I remember when Creed was huge in the late 90's and people said they were a knockoff of Pearl Jam. Even as a child I said to myself, "Jesus, people are stupid. The only reason they're comparing the two bands is because Creed's singer has a similar haircut to Eddie Vedder." lol
Beavis is right. Pearl Jam did come first. Their debut album was 1991 while the debut album for Stone Temple Pilots came in 1992. And the song used in the music video wasn't released as a single until 1993. So, yeah. You can never tell which band is being played when it comes to the vocals sounding alike.
@@Godzillafan1980 Depends. STP already had most of the songs recorded and demoed in 89, before Pearl Jam were a band. But technically Pearl Jam came first when it came to mainstream
Oddly enough when I was growing up I thought Pearl Jam sang the STP songs. But when I got older, I could UNDERSTAND what Scott Weiland was singing. Love you Eddie
