Even though its been at Wabtec in Erie since 2019 it has rarely been seen testing. BNSF 616 is one of 20 Modernized AC44C4s rebuilt of BNSF. It was held for testing and used on several occasions to test in the field. Check out the colorful lashup too!

Glad to see 616 still has its original RS3L today! The BNSF C4Ms are absolutely gorgeous, especially with low ditchlights. I still wonder when BNSF will ever continue these kinds of rebuilds in the future, since they don’t appear to be in a rush to do so unlike NS. Also liked the encounter of the Chessie HU captured! Beautiful unit!

It's likely they will get more. They have many dash 9s reaching 30 years now.

BNSF isn't gonna go through with modernization due to there Dash 9s becoming literal toasters (they have a problem with emitting large amounts of smoke in the air and the turbo charger getting completly cooked) other than those issues their of -9s is still extremely reliable give the rebuilds 3-4 years they'll begin smokin like toasters

I wonder if the BNSF will resume their rebuild program? I keep thinking how much better the BNSF locomotives would look as Santa Fe units instead!

@@stephankoenig5481they better but I would like to see one in Warbonnet scheme and a yellow and blue hell they should do heritage units on a Gevo or SD70ACE or well what ever happened to the SD70ACET4? Did BNSF said they don’t want them anymore?
