Today on the Pasadena Subdivision, I was treated to an additional run in the month of April, of the BNSF Pasadena Roadswitcher up the MWD Spur in La Verne. At first I didn't believe the plant was going to take in a second car this month, however once I saw the car in tow past Claremont, I knew I was in for a good chase.
I started my chase off in Claremont at the Metrolink Station, where the cloudy lighting allowed me to frame in the Claremont Santa Fe Depot in with the train. In tow going west were 2 tanks for Q&B Foods, a hopper and 3 more tanks for the Pabst Brewery, the tank car for the Weymouth Water Treatment Plant, 11 boxcars for WSI in Pomona, and 3 more boxcars for the ProCon warehouse. All 5 industries on the Pasadena Sub were being served today, for a total of 21 cars going west.
I caught up with the train in Pomona, catching the train pulling into the siding where the 14 boxcars would be cut off for switching later. I got just ahead of them for a second Pomona shot at the Metrolink station. I then caught the train on the mainline in La Verne, before setting up at the base of the MWD spur to catch the shove.
7 cars for the shove up to the water plant was the most I had ever seen on the spur. The slow movement of the train allowed me to get an additional shot at the top of the branch as they climbed the steep slope of the spur to the plant. I then set up further down on the spur for the run back south, where the tank had been dropped and no empties taken back. I then moved on to San Dimas for my next shot, catching the train near the spot where the final spike was driven in 1887, which is just to the east of the crossing.
I then got 3 more shots in Glendora, one including the Route 66 bridge, and the last at the future site of the Glendora Metro Station. I then moved to Azusa to get the train at the Azusa Santa Fe Depot. Following a long switching session at the Irwindale industries, I caught the train returning west above the station with a return run of 2 tanks from Q&B, and 2 hoppers and 4 tanks from the brewery. Running out of light, I caught the train two more times in Glendora before bringing the chase to a close. I hope you enjoyed and thanks for watching!
