Jennifer and I decided to drive around and see what we could see, and we saw this, among some other cool stuff, on the weekend we spent at Bed & Trains in Tehachapi.
Hi, Mark! Just heard from a Foamer buddy that UP is going to have a special move of 103 gondolas from the Warm Springs Sub (The yard by the TESLA Plant in Fremont, CA) to Yermo. Possibly for storage/scrapping/Marine Corps use? No one seems to know for certain why the move is being made. The gons originated at Watsonville, where they had been in storage. They were moved to Warm Springs and are now leaving at some point later, this AM, your time .....from what is known so far. Speculating that the move will go via Altamont Pass, thence to Lathrop, then to Bakersfield and to Mojave to Colton to Yermo. BUT! Maybe BNSF will allow a through-train move over its trackage from Mojave to Barstow/Yermo? We just love to SPECULATE! If I remember correctly I think they said because of the mine tailings there's going to be 50 plus years of road making material maybe it was 30 but it was a hell of a long time
The loads leaving the site aren't that big. Most of the material stays onsite after crushing and processing. I tried to get them to let me do a video there. I didn't even finish the question before I was turned down. The cement plants ship out a couple trainloads a week, and coal loads in. That makes it worth their while!
It's double track through Mojave, but not south of it. Double track ends (or starts) here at the interlocking for both roads. It has never been double track beyond this point. Thanks for checking it out!
I JUST had a great idea for you!!! You need to make some merch, and one of them should be a t-shirt that says "...I do love to speculate." or something along those lines.
