This channel is about the railroad, railroad history, history in general, exploring abandoned and other interesting places and anything I find interesting and want to share with others. I retired from Union Pacific Railroad in 2019 after forty years (17 with Southern Pacific) and have many interests and hobbies I'd like to share with like minded people. If there is something you'd like to see, let me know and if I am able to make it happen, I will!
I'm looking forward to your piece on the high speed rail, to see where our money is is being wasted. They can't keep Amtrac full and it doesn't even go to Sacramento without getting on a bus and a layover to go to Redding. What a waste. Stay safe.
I used to do field changes and designs and submit them to signal design for incorporation into prints (circuit plans), but that was with the relay logic system. The microprocessor stuff loses me as soon as it enters the magic boxes!
Thats a cool hang out spot during the winter . Summer time theres rattle snakes . . . Me and my Daughter go out there in the winter time to fly our drones and drive our remote control cars . . . If you drive further down theres that railroad bridge , when it rains it like a mini river through there but a cool spot to fly drones and enjoy City Sandwich cold sandwiches with the Kid
Wouldn't it be awesome if American trains could do the same speeds as European trains... or the North East corridor trains.... or the upcoming California high speed. Seeing one of those long freight trains doing around 200 Kilometers per hour would be amazing...! )I know they can't... but it would be great if they could).
Interesting about Black Bear Diner, Wife and I had never ate at one until we were in Boise Idaho and it was very good and the portions were large for the price, only other one we have visited was in El Cajon, CA (the only one in San Diego County) and it was also good with big portions. I have been told by other people that the "experience" varies widely with the location. Train mountain is on our "bucket list", Want to take our Great-grandchildren from Logan UT to visit. I agree with UT having the worst road signs. Will have to talk to you sometime about gasoline and their additives since I worked in the industry for 30+ years. (Costco is as good as Chevron) Sorry but ARCO puts only the minimum required by law and is on par with the "No Name" stations. Any "Branded" station that advertises "Top Tier" is best bet. Tip on using Radar Gun, point click button and read speed, repeat as needed. (Do not need to hold button down)
Thanks Mark for your trip review, I like hearing about your experiences and places to eat and sleep. After meeting up with you in Tehachapi in mid May we headed west towards Flagstaff and the Grand Canyon. Pulling our trailer I thought the road I-40 turned to crap as soon as we crossed the Arizona state line and did not seem to improve until we were close to Williams. I assume they maintain them better close to tourist destinations so the don't upset the visitors. Looking forward to another trip down your way in the fall to visit the CA Train Museum and WP museum in Portola and then to LA via Tehachapi of course. Thanks again, Russ
Yeah, we went to Az. last spring. We took 66 from Topock to just past Seligman where it joins 40 again, and 40 was a disaster to Williams, as you said. I felt bad for the trucks that had to stay in the slow lane! If you get this way again, let me know. We'll hang out again!
Thanks for the trip vlog with the wife, is was a lot of places i will probably not get to , time and father age is upon all of us, lol thanks BigAl California
Today Friday 12 th July 2024At 1:00 pm I think is the public, opening on the first ave rail road bridge, in Barstow, Wednesday was the city ribon cutting, , thanks BigAl California.
@@MarkClayMcGowan I’m stealing that one from you. Yes, it’s hot. 4014 is in Roseville, it took 90 minutes in line to see it, in 90°. I saw a heatwave, and I waved back.
Great video, I hope you can get some action in Alpauph, my dad grew up there and we spent many a time there when I was younger. Keep up the good work 👏
A rail fanner goes by Jawtooth (old C.B. handle) got hisself a radar gun little tiny one , don't point it at the lead loco, mite cause some consternation, but anywhere on the leading edge of rail cars works well, but you're rite 50 mph or even 45 because those huge vehicles look like they're moving faster than they are.
The Barstow bridge is not opening today at10am, it has been delayed till Friday at 10 am on the 12 th July 2024 first ave inbarstow you are looking at you messages, thanks BigAl California.
I live out here in Wasco and a half mile from the tracks. Speed limit is 70mph for freight, 80 for Amtrak. Lots of BNSF traffic on a good day, but it sucks that you can no longer hear them blast their horn through town anymore since they removed the 2 grade crossings as part of that HSR project.
It is interesting that the twisting, tunneled, horse-shoed rails of Tehachapi connect directly with the flat, speedy, straight tracks of the Central Valley. 🛤️
