"Come and watch the skinny kid with a steadily declining mental health and laugh as he attempts to give you what he cannot give himself" is one of the most powerful lines I've ever heard.
The “Have a good night. I hope you’re happy.” Line takes on a much darker light when you take it with the context of both what the rant is about and the knowledge that he’s having a panic attack while performing it.
“All eyes on me” Brother. He talks about this moment in time when he performed this song, without actually talking about it, if that makes sense. Much love brother
@RU-vid Sucks One brother per sentence is a lot, brother. No matter how you count it, brother. Let me tell you, brother. If you don't think that's a lot, brother... You are wrong, brother.
The fact that U can physically see him declining into a panic attack with ur own eyes during this song and he went back and cried for hours and stoped performing for 5 years…… it is an underrated performance
Its really not, as literally everyone sees it as that. Not famous enough for what it is? Sure, but underrated? Not really, havent seen anyone not like it.
You honestly can't though. Bo even said himself that he couldn't tell when watching the thing back. He said that he looked completely fine up there and that he couldn't believe that the man he was watching was having a panic attack
@@hjonkhjonkamgoose and in the same interview said that last scream wasn't part of the show (for someone who rehearses every single word and little pause that says something) and dropping the mic wasn't also... he dropped it and ran off the stage. Like half of the audience saw him start bawling right before he exited the stage.
Bo was too young when he got famous. He didn’t know the mental complications to come.. he is the burrito. He wished someone would have told him what he was getting into.. it’s a very sad song and if you watch him throughout the years you will see his struggle through each performance. Much love
The pringle "Hand in a can." The chipotle, "I wouldn't have gotten half of it." All eventually tied into the inner-monologue where he says that people, "don't even get the half of it," and he claims that, "I don't think that I 'Can' 'Hand'le this right now." Dude runs deep. He's a genius.
Wow i didnt get that reference. You think he has a double meaning hidden i the burrito bit as well? Like you dont get the half of it' is all the shit spilling out of the burrito. Or i cant handle this is also the burrito unable to handle all the ingredients haha. Anything is possible with Bo...
The bottom of the Pringles can is where happiness is. He can't reach the bottom. If he had a daughter, her hand could fit and he could be happy. "Then I would finally have someone around the house that could fit their hand inside a Pringles can." The burrito is his mental state and the ingredients are all the things that come with fame and fortune. He suffers from mental breakdowns and panic attacks regularly. The ingredients spilling out is a metaphor for his breakdowns and no one warned him about the mental stress of fame and fortune. "I wouldn't have got the lettuce if I knew it would fit, I wouldn't have got the cheese if I knew it wouldn't fit, I wouldn't have got the peppers if I knew it would fit, I wouldn't have got half of it." That's also the reason he says, "... and if they still don't understand it then you run it one more time." He would have never become famous if he would have known the mental toll it would take on him. This was his last performance for 5 years until he released Inside.
@@hansTowns the thing with the burrito metaphor was his conversation with his therapist. The "expert" for rolling a burrito was giving him alot of things to process because that is what he wants. The tortilla is the metaphor for his life, and the ingredients were ingredients in life... Projects... And at one point Bo was taking in so much project more than his singular life can handle. Projects that his "expert" therapist advising him to do. Bo taking too much projects as per doctor's advice were weighing on his mental health instead of making him more active and less depressed...
Just for a little extra context Bo was struggling with Anxiety and was experiencing panic attacks on stage. This was his last performance before he took a 5 year break from performing live. At some point he said in an interview that after this show ended he just went backstage and cried for 2 hours. He talks a bit about it on All Eyes on Me, from the Inside special. The Inside special itself is largely a look into his struggles with being forced into isolation from the lock downs that had happened. I personally highly recommend it if you haven't seen it.
I had a rough point in my life, isolated myself for 4 years, and was about to go back into work, then Covid happened. I was already spun into a deep depression and needed a job to take care of a cat that given due to last owners gave him up to me. He needed a home, and a friend. I didn't have money. I needed him and he needed me. I got into schooling for 2-3 years with money for my little friend. And before I got to go into work, my little friend was old, and had kidney disease.... And passed away before I got work. I was in isolation on and off for 8 years.
This is one of the very best works of Bo. And also very typical of his style. To make comedic songs with very real and often painful undertones. He likes to lead you on a seemingly funny journey to then expose you to a problem, issue or feeling he is centering the song around. But he never lingers too much, just enough to break the "veil" for a second, make your heart skip a beat. Absolute masterclass. Also his lyrics are often very metaphorical. In this case, the funny part can also be interpreted as his career in a way. The Pringles scheme being entertainment industry, and how difficult to get into that and succeed, and when you do, it often blows back on you. While the Burrito scheme can be understood as him making it into the industry and trying to get everything out of it that spirals out in the end. And if someone told him how a lot of that would not fit in his life, he wouldn't have gotten any of that. So all in all, wonderful piece by Bo. I'd love to see your take on some of his other stuff if you feel like taking a break from bars every now and then. Good content again, keep it up! peace
@@aricowens2289 no that's almost definitely what it means. He didnt bring the burrito scheme up again for no reason. The pringle part could just be jokes but the burrito part is metaphorical
@@2wyt160 I think the point of bringing the burrito up again is to make his point that he just said in the previous line, that the audience doesn't care about what he really has to say, they just want to hear comedy...so he goes back to the comedy part of the song while the lighting changes so you can't even see his face (the real him), just a shadow of him.
@@aricowens2289 Well another truth is that comedy and jokes are connected to truths. So honestly even if it was just a joke its likely based in that truth no matter if he meant it to or not. The subconscious is wild.
Bo has bars words words words Bo yo Oh Bo And more but honestly as much as I like Bo this Pringle can shit was just annoying to me what in the heck made u think the burrito part was about his life like there was nothing in there to me to even fathom that and even I'd it was in there it still doesn't make thar part entertaining to me Btw Pringle can was worse drones on and on
Great reaction Stevie. I'm a big fan of Bo, he's an incredibly talented guy. I highly recommend you watch the whole 'Make Happy' show and his latest one 'Inside' right after, he goes deeper into his struggles with mental health in that one and it's very entertaining as well (it was filmed during the 2020 quarantine). Keep it up man, I've been watching you since early 2020! Big fan. Greetings from Argentina.
"Inside" is a masterpiece, but is kind of tough for reactors. You can either watch it beginning to end as one should for the full experience, but for a reaction video that means a whole lot of cuts and basically just a highlight reel of reactions, which is almost always a bad idea. Or, you can do the individual songs or at least the more popular ones, one for each video, which is what most do, and that works well enough, but you also kind of miss an entire layer of the whole thing that way, the bits in between the songs, the struggle and the narrative etc. That being said, from the songs you gotta check out All Eyes On Me, almost directly references this one or more specifically the time period. Then musts are "How the world works", "Welcome to the internet", "Comedy" for example. They'll make for good content if you've clocked on to the fact that there's a whole lot more to this guy than there seems to be at first glance.
@@hmthatsniceiguess2828 Oh yeah absolutely, I actually didn't mean he had to watch Inside for a reaction video, but for himself. He could react to a few parts of it though, as you mentioned. 'All eyes on me' is a good one for sure, 'Welcome to the internet' would be another one, and 'White woman's instagram' for a funny reaction. I think he could watch the whole show to enjoy the full experience, record his reaction but then split it into a few videos with only the best parts, that could work.
And the fact that this was his last performance for years and the last thing we has all heard from him. It all just makes that last bit of the song that much deeper.
@@TheFutureofthePlanet Right? It's crazy how hard Bo was struggling with self confidence and a kind of stage fright, and then when he WAS ready to go back out and tour... Covid hit. He's very intelligent, and very poignant. One of the best comedians out there today.
Bo ended up having a panic attack during this performance. He was saying in an interview the 3rd scream was not planned at the end. When he went back stage he was in tears.
“Comedians be having demons” is the most factual thing I’ve ever heard from any reactor I’ve heard on the thousands I’ve seen. I’m a comedy promoter and have been around comics my whole life. Most artists do but comics most of all. Look at the people who are the best comics, they are almost all Irish, Jewish, Black (think about all your favorite comics). The type of people who hold in their demons and let them loose. Watch “Rothanial” by Jerrod Carmichael (directed by Bo).
Have to agree about the Gym part... I use to Live in the gym... was happy with my look.. my abs, everything.. had a 3rd child, wife wasnt working.. had to work more.. dont get me wrong my body didnt fully go.. have more a gut now, and it bother's me.. tried going ot the gym but it eats you up.. IDK why but it does.. lol.. just being honest
You mentioned all the things you liked at the end, I think one thing you didn't mention but you may still agree, was the lighting. He did an excellent job setting up the mood and atmosphere with the lights as he transitioned into each part, starting from the first few seconds when he's talking to the crowd. He then says "I've got a lot of sh*t to say" and the lights go off in that moment and the crowd fades away, and the obvious amazing lights as he kneeled with the spotlights converging on him, and the following with gold lighting silhouette. Ending in a fade to black.
Impressive & deep reaction!!! One of the best ones I've seen to this performance. It's so profoundly sad & haunting to this day. You got it SO right, all of the aspects - even the Kanye impression, which a lot of youtube reactors just look over. I understand the chills; the first time I saw this I had no idea what was coming & did not have any context - and I actually cried at the end. I was so shocked, it was so unexpected and hit even harder after the comedic part.
I appreciate Stevie so much for his understanding and empathy in this reaction. You’re right - BARS! These bars bleed. Homie went back stage and wept hard for two hours straight after this performance and quit performing for 5 years.
I love when ppl actually understand this Song and can appreciate bo's genius. He is so real in all of his songs, he goes deep in at least one bar its crazy.
He did kind of a follow up song to this song on his new album, the song is "All Eyes On Me". Also I think you'd like "Art is Dead" and "Welcome to the Internet".
Bo is amazing. He is the youngest comedian to ever have a solo stand up special on comedy central (19). He preformed live until he was 25 in which he was have panic attacks and anxiety. "Kayne Rant" was his last song before he walked off stage and out of the spotlight for 5years. Until, he came out with "Welcome to the Internet", as well as a few others, and "Inside"(Netflix special) last year. "Art is Dead", "God's Perspective", "Repeat stuff", "Words Words Words" are all older and better in my opinion. You have a lot of videos you could make with Bo Burnham's work. I'm here for it. He has a nice rabbit hole of content you could watch for a while and people will come to watch it. Bo Burnham.
Great reaction. I have watched this video 3 times a week for 3 months. To know he didn't perform for 5 years after this catches me. It helps me. I usually tear up
And here I am just watching your reaction again. You have to know the Burrito is a metaphor for fitting too much in your life. He's too awesome to not keep watching it. And your reaction to it is great.
This was a great reaction. Thank you. I have also loved your Harry Mack and Chris Stapleton reactions. I'm going to have to look through your channel more thoroughly. Thanks again.
Bo is so strong, it hurts to watch this one. He had been crying out for along time, and no one listened til he broke down. Then when he tries to come back because he thinks he's okay, the whole world shuts down cuz COVID. Brave, brave soul. We don't deserve Bo, but we need him.
Every time I listen to this and it gets to the end where he tells the crowd he hopes their happy is always so heartbreaking knowing what he was going through. When the special first came out, I just thought it was Bo being silly Bo. Instead, you find out that he is having a panic attack during that specific performance and those screams are actually real. Gets me every time
I loved this reaction man. I've seen people react to this and not really connect with the final bit. And I don't understand. It was great to see you appreciate his vulnerability.
His comedy is pretty damn personal compared to most comedians. Kinda reminds me of George Carlin where the comedy comes with a lot of other stuff in it, like philosophy, etc.
I love how you pointed out you can relate to him as a RU-vidr because Bo originally was a RU-vidr, on of the OGs and was discovered and gained his popularity as a teenager. Many of his current work revolves around how that affected his growing up. He even revealed in his recent special, where he was 30, how he was dealing with on stage panic attacks at this time and you can tell. It’s powerful.
10:28 - 10:50 That part was so deep. He gave me chills. So real! It also took me back to Kanye’s 2016 concert whilst he vented about everything he was feeling at that time/had to get it off his chest. No he wasn’t crazy! He was talking to the people, I heard every word. But so many didn’t. Bo is EXTREMELY talented. This is the 1st time I’ve ever heard of him. Thx so for this Stevie. 🙏🏼✌🏼
Genius performance artist. Visually stunning and he is a super talented writer, musician, & singer. Also, genius for adding serious stuff within the comedy that gets you thinking, and as you said, totally engages you. Regarding the gym - as a disabled overweight person, going to gyms was really awful for me and a friend of mine. We tried 3 different ones - always comments, laughing, looks of disgust by really fit people, when we were there to try and improve ourselves. It's not fair, but you learn to live with it.
Awesome reaction! I've watched a lot of reactions to this song and I love it when someone really gets it like you did. Definitely one of his best, but honestly all of his stuff is amazing. A good follow up to this one is "All Eyes on Me", it might shed a little light on where he was mentally during this performance.
Just scrolled fast af through your vids to see if you had watched Bo before, exciting to watch people be introduced to his art. Can you please add this and any others of him im the comedy playlist?🥺 oh and if you have them, also add it to the genius, angelic creations, philosophical playlists too lol
I just wanna say, I'm not big into reaction videos but Stevie I do enjoy your reactions. You definately give me the real vibe. Like I really believe who you are in your reactions, is who you are in real life and I appreciate the hell out of that. I also think you have well thought out and really good analytical skills when it comes to breaking this shit down. Respect... Bo Burnham has gone pretty high on my goat of comedy lists. He hasn't quite reached Chapelle or Carlin level status yet, but he's well on his way. He's an incredible talent no doubt.
The layers and composition is mind blowing, the build where the humor gets deeper and more real as the piece grows. And it’s like, maybe they won’t see the pain that way.. laughing about pain soothes it but it’s from his soul. He kills compositions 🖤🥀 And the bits he blatantly says and his theme kind of always is about how people don’t see or listen. His vulnerability has my adoration for sure. Thanks for doing this dude!
13:10 Definitly true, they say comedians are the saddest people. There's so much joy in making other people laugh and it's truly like Bo says, "attempt to give you what he cannot give himself". You should also watch his other song called Art is Dead which perfectly aligns with a lot of this message as well.
You hit the nail on the head. Especially the big buff guys like you. Guys think you look down on them automatically. But in reality the dudes like that are usually the biggest supporters of you being there.
Bo really is a legend in the making. A millennial comedian that should be put in with the greats. Start up from RU-vid. Using all the tools we had this generation and always being so creative with it. Stevie you will appreciate everything he does
Hadn’t seen this performance of his, thoroughly enjoyed watching it with you. We were laughing at the same times. Thanks for hanging out and watching that with me!
this is so powerful, i have listened to his stuff a few times, this one particularly gets harder the harder you listen to it. all about gathering too much, stuff you dont need, but is available to you. you dont have to ask for stuff, you need to know what to not ask for, crying that the pringles can is not big enough, thats about how we have everything we need, a whole tube of unhealthy deep fried salt, and we cry about not being able to get it into our guts fast enough. uncomfortable truths.
Yo, I just got put onto your sh** yesterday but I'm lovin it. I like that part you talked about with people who are too self conscious to go to the gym. I used to hit the gym all the time in highschool but stopped going for a few years after I graduated and it was hard to go back because I felt a type of way after falling out of shape. But you're right, most people don't care as long you're there to put in the work. Anyway, great stuff man, hope you do more Bo Burnham stuff, he really is a legend
12:48 Bo built this as a "stream of consciousness" Also, I think this piece is even more powerful in the context of the whole Make Happy special. He hints at this darkness at different times, and the whole thing is just brilliant. Bested only by Inside, which also should be watched in its entirety.
Love your reaction to this! This song is so powerful, It's like a mini experience. Just watched three of your Bo reactions starting with your first (I'm Bo Yo)...wild to see a kid creating rhymes in his room who grows into a professional doing a sold out show with such an emotional performance. Cheers.
I even liked the autotunes for the first time. You are right, Stevie, about the danger of losing the audience. I stopped laughing at one point and became concerned about him.
Lol that gym rant you had made me realize I'm not self conscious about my body, I just don't know how to use all those weight machines🤣 I'll be damned if I'm caught on youtube using a machine ridiculously wrong! Great reaction!
Hey I've been requesting this for a while. So glad you saw it and reached the same conclusion. "Inside" is worth a watch, even if not for the channel. PS watch this again JUST observing the lighting. Not only is he controlling it live (along with audio effects), but there is a lot of meaning to the lighting.
Side note, the mixing he does is on the spot, it's hard to see in this clip so maybe not. But in his other stand ups, he straight up mixes a song on stage while performing.
