I was 9 during this game. This was the first Iron Bowl after Bear Bryant died. The first half was sunny and breezy. The rain came in the second half. And Keith Jacksons first words of the start of the fourth quarter, was "we have a tornado warning". And Bo kept running. He could have run touchdowns in a hurricane on that day. Bama's defense got tired and got run over by #34.

To set the record straight Alabama was NEVER the visiting team in Bham. I’m an old man born in the 50s and Bham has always been a Bama city no matter what anyone says. I lived there for over 40 years. Even if the tickets were split Bama fans would end up with at least 60% of the tickets. Auburn understood this and that’s why they fought so hard to get home games on campus. Even by the late 80s it was obvious Bham as a city was in decline and Legion field would never get the upgrades she needed to stay a gem in the south. By the 90s it was just unsafe to travel down there to see a game. Breaks my heart in the good ole days we would park at Birmingham Southern and tailgate then walk over to the game. Auburn used to play their home Tennessee games there as well. First game I ever saw was AU v Tn in Legion field.

I hated Bo in 1983 as I’m a life long Tide fan. But I came to like him later. He was a one in a million athlete. Probably 230 lbs and could outrun defensive backs. I saw him play baseball against University Of South Alabama(which I later graduated from)when I was probably a senior in high school. He looked different(bigger)in his baseball uniform than the other players. He hit a line drive to the shortstop which would’ve been a routine throw out to first. He almost beat that throw to first. He quieted the opposing crowd down after watching his astonishing speed running to first.
