But the coaches would say, _"Yeah, but he's not that good!_ Relax, guys. We can actually lighten up on his side of the field, and put everyone's assignment onto other players. _Because he's not that good!"_

Something else people forget or weren’t around to watch was how captivating Bo was. I remember being in bars with Royals games on in the background and everyone stopping to watch when he was at bat. Everyone knew back then Bo could do something ridiculous at any moment, like run up walls to save home runs, so people stopped what they were doing to watch him. To this day every time I see his highlights I think what might have been... BTW, on play versus Bengals when he dislocated his hip, Bo has said it was his own strength that caused the injury. The defender was holding onto Bo’s leg. Bo tried to pull his leg out of the defender’s grasp so violently he pulled it out of his hip joint.

Bo Jackson is the second-greatest football player I have ever seen.

I personally don't think Tecmo bowl did him justice. The defenders always caught him from behind unless you zig tagged. Yet okoye could blow away from any defender just running in a straight line.

Not a Raider fan yet I remember how disappointing it was for that injury to end it way too soon. He was the brightest star in sports at that time. He started doing baseball, did it well. Then he went into NFL and pushed people around like he was a grown man among kids.

Lz V yes true true. I wonder who the most famous/well-known of the 3 is. Wilt played before the huge global media attention sport gets nowadays. Bo was huge in the US but pretty unknown for those outside the country and Jonah was a superstar in a huge number of countries across the globe but basically unheard of in the US. I’d guess Jonah probably is the most well known overall but all 3 still lack the full recognition they deserve.

He would had to have played football solely from the start. He was already 28 years old when he injured his hip and only played the equivalent of 2 and a half seasons, since he was splitting time with MLB. But it ended up being more fun to watch since we got to see him make all those crazy highlight reels in 2 sports.

He wouldn’t have, because he was already 28 and only playing 9-10 games a season. I liked it better anyway that he played 2 sports rather than see him be a great full time RB. We got to see him make crazy plays in baseball too.

Or hit 500+ dingers in the MLB. He was exciting to watch in both sports. Glad he made his cash on the ads and retired with grace and financial security.

@@davidbranin969 Meh. He was not on any sort of HOF trajectory in baseball. When he got hurt, he had 500 games and almost 2000 at bats under his belt, and was 28 years old. He had less than 100 HR's, hit around .225-.235, never walked, and struck out a ton. Plus, he was a negative defender, despite all that speed and throwing arm.

What a lot of people don't realize is that his sheer power is actually what got him hurt, ironically. A normal running back would've probably just fell, but Bo tried to rip his own leg out the grasp of the defender, and did so with such force, that it dislocated his hip. Unreal.

It was astonishing. The only other person I knew that could be SO strong and SO fast was Herschel...

True this guy was so gifted he was elevated to the same level as Michael Jordan and Wayne Gretzky. They even made a cartoon staring all three players back in the early 90's.

I think Ohtani right now is the closest thing we have to a Bo Jackson. To play two different positions in baseball and be nearly the best in both is otherworldly. Sure it's not two different sports, but he's doing something that has never been seen before in baseball.

Brow Master Bo ran 4.1 at 230 pounds. Played 2 sports professionally and was pro bowl/all star level player in both sports. As a pure runner, Bo was the most physically gifted RB ever.

Eric Prybylski 49ers in the 1950s had 3 Hall of Famers in their backfield. Marcus & Bo was an embarrassment of riches. Marcus had just been the NFL’s MVP in 85’ and was one of the most versatile and complete running backs ever. Bo was one of the most freakish athletes to ever walk the planet, crazy mix of speed and power. In his 4 seasons, he averaged 73 rushing yards per game and 5.4 YPC...while not being in proper football shape.

Bo might have had better moves, as Herschel just aimed to go through people. Generally skills and leadership - MAYbe. One thing very likely is that Herschel drew more attention. Outside of the overlap with Dorsett at the end of TD's career, he might have been more game planned than anyone. On that matter, remember that he caught more than a couple of passes also.
