Man, the amount of times i screamed at my television: "YES REED INTERCEPTION!" .... "GOD DAMN IT REED JUST GO DOWN, DONT RISK RUNNING WITH IT!" .... "GO REED RUN WITH IT, YOU CAN DO IT, I WAS WRONG RUN JUST RUN!" Every single time Ed Reed intercepted the ball he threw me on a roller coaster of emotions lol.
@Marrrrley
@Marrrrley 2 года назад
I'm kinda new. Why is it so dangerous to run with it after having intercepted it? Because they can fumble it easier or something like that?
@__Andrew
@__Andrew 2 года назад
@@Marrrrley yes, they could fumble it giving the ball back and basically nullifying what could have been a chance at a touchdown for your own team while denying points to the other team. On top of that ball handling skills when running isn't always something non offensive players have. Like holding onto the ball through a hard hit or a strip. As great as Ed ways he often ran with the ball in one hand just holding it out away from his body, making it easier to knock loose lol. And on more than a few occasions Ed did lose the ball after an interception.
@brandonthompson8640
@brandonthompson8640 2 года назад
@@Marrrrley also, the times Ed picked it off in the endzone, if he had just gone down there, the Ravens offense would get the ball at their own 25 yard line. Ed running it out of the endzone risks him getting tackled before hitting the 25 yard line, resulting in a net loss of yards. of course, it's Ed, so when he broke em, he broke em big.
@Marrrrley
@Marrrrley 2 года назад
Ok guys, thanks for the info. I guess just seeing Ed do it gave me the false impression that it'd most likely be good, but I guess it's not like that haha
@__Andrew
@__Andrew 2 года назад
@@Marrrrley Well of course with highlights they are not going to show the times he got smacked and lost the ball lol. Ed was an amazing athlete and ball hawk. Only really late in his career would he step out of bounds at the end of an interception when he thought he could not get anymore yards. Early in his career he had no problem gambling for a few more yards or even a breakout touchdown. Part of the issue as well was for pretty much all of Ed's career Baltimore simply did not have a quarterback. A lot of the games we won we won because of defensive touchdowns or field goals. So yeah, we kinda needed Ed and company to gamble with it for a win rather than play by the numbers lol. Also RIP to the big man Tony Siragusa who died today. Another amazing player and a hell of a nice guy. I believe it was him that one time when he got flak for "landing too hard on Tom Brady" said "well my wife is only 120 pounds and she doesnt mind when i lay on her every night" lol.

@Darnell Jones I remember during an interview he said something to effect of "we had this mindset of if we got our hands on the ball, we gotta try and score cuz we don't know what the offense is gonna do". And that was true. There were times when the Ravens D would give their O the ball in the red zone and they wouldn't score. That Redskins game in 2004 I remember vividly. The Ravens won that game 14-10 and both TD's were Ed Reed turnovers for touchdowns.

Stephen May Bill is a historian of the game? Wow, glad you are here to tell me such obscure factoids! But you did watch the clip I linked before responding to prove yourself right, did you not? 'End of story'. 'And to further drive the point home', Coaches always exaggerate the present players and games. They are emotional, love the game, and get caught up in the moment of their own endeavors. 'End of Story.' The 'best' is debatable among many players and eras.

@justinbgr
@justinbgr 5 лет назад
The thing that always sticks out when watching Reed is his momentum after catching an interception. He could bait a bad throw better than any safety to play the game. Watching him get an interception and immediately be at full speed is a testament to his preparation, anticipation, and natural instincts at the position. It was a pleasure being a ravens fans when defense was an institution in Baltimore. Not to say we don't field great defenses anymore, but there was an electricity when Ray and Ed were on the field together. Those defenses always felt like they were greater than the sum of their parts, and Ray and Ed put average guys in position to make incredible plays they had no business making. Just look at how many defensive players left Baltimore to chase contracts during those years and the vast majority never could replicate the success they had in Baltimore. To be so talented those two were incredibly selfless players and I think that is what transcends them above equally talented players. I'm so glad we finally got Ed a ring.
@justinbgr
@justinbgr 5 лет назад
@Frank Mclain For sure. I meant no disrespect to Suggs. I just don't believe he's as important to those mid-2000s defenses as they were. Suggs is a hall-of-famer no doubt, but he's not a generational talent.
@Ryan.granneman
@Ryan.granneman 5 лет назад

@@Ryan.granneman I agree about Suggs as well and he was definitely the final leg of the triangle of leadership that existed on those units. He's still a great player at 36. Obviously his snaps are limited, but every team that prepares for the Ravens have to use time and resources game planning for him, and that's more precious than any further accolades he could receive. When Bill Belichick game plans for a safety and when he also says if he was on his team that he'd never take him off a certain phase of the game ever, that's saying something about a player.
@faveology
@faveology 4 года назад
Belichick has never had an athletic freak at safety like Reed, but he has still managed to produce damn good ones. Sure he has had HOF and pro bowlers at S, but they weren't athletic freaks like Ed Reed. They were hardworkers who listened and got the most out of their talent. Imagine if Belichick had a guy like Reed. Reed would have probably put up even bigger numbers.

The Ravens are just mind blowing. Been in the league for only 25 years, and they have drafted the all time greats at several positions already: - Ogden, LT - R. Lewis, ILB - Reed, S - Tucker, K Not to mention all the other guys who will have to settle for HoF, instead of being the best ever at the position: Suggs, Ngata, Priest Holmes, Yanda, possibly Brandon Williams, and Marlon Humphrey, Andrews and Lamar Jackson well on their way. That doesn't even count guys like Flacco, Rice, Jamal Lewis, Heap, McAlister, etc tc etc. Unbelievable how much talent this organization has identified and developed in such a short time span.

eighnasa If there are two qualities you want in a free safety, it’s ballhawking coverage skills and the ability to make tackles once they break second-level. There are arguably many safeties who could tackle as well or better than Reed, but NOBODY had better high-safety coverage skills than Reed. Dawkins did a lot for Philly (thanks in part to Jim Johnson’s diverse defense, blitzing anyone from anywhere), but lacked the freakish ballhawkish talent that Reed had. Reed played something like 50 games less than Weapon X, but ended up with almost double his interception total. But don’t take my word for it, instead look at the countless players and coaches, from Ronnie Lott to Troy Polamalu to Bill Belichick who said Reed was the GOAT.
