This is an excellent video... I have been wondering how this system works. A good and no nonsense approach to the drive system. Please keep track of part numbers and where to get these parts. Again great video and wonderful workmanship.
Thank you so much for this video! I am building stretched schwinn mtn bike/board track racer based on a schwinn wayfarer frame that has been extremely reinforced, (I actually cut all the tubing from another frame in half like a clamshell and welded over the stretched schwinn frame) with a predator 212 engine. I was trying to figure out my drive train, and this video basically explained everything I needed to figure out. It was very much appreciated.
Edit. Never mind the question I must have been stoned to not hear you explain the answer in the video. Except I don't smoke weed:) @EDG Classics one thing I'm kind of stuck on. Why do the freewheels spin towards the front of the bike.
Any links to those pieces in jackshaft...the sealed bottom bracket bearings...and those freewheel sprockets/lenght of 5/8 shaft etc....that video did help thanks..
@@EDGClassics hello I'm looking for the free wheel that have the plate or do thay sell them with gears on them and what's the biggest size sprockets on them ..thanks
@@chadgeer3998 I usually get those on eBay. They sell the freewheel with or whiteout the sprocket. The size depends on the chain size you need. Message me on Facebook at EDG Classics and I can try and send you some links for the ones I use. Thanks!
Awesome! I’m glad it helped! I had such a hard time trying to figure it out on my first build. No one was willing to help. I had to make this one. Feel free to message me the FB messenger for any additional questions.
What chain are you running to the rear sprocket? 415 or 420? I can find freewheel sprockets for the jack shaft but they all take 420 chain the rear sprockets take 415 chain.
There are a few places. You can find them sometimes on the bay. Harley has decent frames and Worksman - Sportsman Flyer frames are available too. There have been a lot of suppliers that disappear after a while so you have to keep an eye out for a legit supplier.
Thank you very much! I’ll see what I can do about putting a parts list together with some links. Most of the parts are easy to find on eBay or MB Rebel. Feel free to message me on Facebook under EDG Classics and I can send you any links I have.
So what about bike pedaling, are there any issues say if the engine running and you wanna pedal, also what about engine off. Are there any draw backs, or issues with pedaling? Thanks 😊
There are no issues with pedaling. You can pedal start the motor or you can pedal5(3 bike down the road if the engine is not running. You can pedal with the engine running but the motor pushes it well enough that you really done need to pedal. Back pedal for rear brake.
Could you please mention here all parts used in that setup? I'm based in Poland and I'm trying to build my first Board Track Racer but it is super difficult to find all parts needed as they have different names here too ( but I can try with stranslator). Also, could you show how to attach rear sprocket on a wheel hub?
I found the freewheel and the sprocket but cannot find the threaded axle bushing reducing to 5/8”. Got a link? Parts links would be nice! Thanks for the video.
I used bronze bushing from ace hardware to reduce for the 5/8” shaft. Message me on my Facebook page, EDG Classics and I can send you more specific info and pics.
I would love to post a link but they seem to change all the time. Message me on Facebook messenger and we can discuss the exact part you’re having trouble finding and I can send you a current link. Thanks!
To be honest, I don’t normally build the forks from scratch. I buy them from a few different sources. Depending on your budget, you can get some really nice ones.
If you decide to use the manual 3d type clutch do you still face the freewheels clicking forward? Thanks your videos are very helpful and inspiring ....I love the look of these bikes. Well done!
Do you have a part numbers for the free wheel sprockets? I’m picking up a bike frame today and want to build a board track using a 5hp techumse engine for it I like the drive set up you did would like to know we’re to find the parts thanks.
I don’t have specific part numbers because I’ve had to source them from several different suppliers. The last few I purchased were off ebay. Search the sprocket chain size and the number of teeth you want. I use “#420 Freewheel Sprocket 29T”. Good luck!
What exactly was “eaten” up? I’ve put hundreds of miles on all my bikes with this setup and haven’t had an issue yet. What is the part that is actually failing?
@@EDGClassics The bearings were spalling and metal flakes started coming out of the internals. I decided to go with some sealed bearings instead as I dont really need to pedal. Just wondering if anyone else has had this issue or did I just get some bad china?
I would love to do something like this on my next build, want to put a motor on a Michigan stretch style frame, do you have a parts list or links to the parts you used to make the jackshaft?
Message me on Facebook messenger under EDG Classics and I’ll send you a current link. The problem is that I buy a lot of them off eBay so the link changes regularly.
@EDGClassics that makes a lot of sense, though unfortunately I won't be able to buy the parts any time soon as I have a 212cc bike I'm already building on top of another factor made motorized bike I'm modifying, so maybe instead of link maybe just the list of the items so I know what to look for, and so you don't have to look for links to send me
Thank you very much! I’m glad you’re going to build one! You won’t regret it! They are so much fun to cruise around on and they draw so much attention! Have fun and keep us all updated!
@@EDGClassics Hi! I'm Italian and I really like the style of the board track racers! I have been thinking about it for a long time and since I don't know the size of the frame, I first need to find a motor that is right for me. Then I'll proceed with the frame. One question: what diameter are the wheels? are they 26 inches?
@@EDGClassics hi there I got a good idea to put a 200cc lifan 5spd engine in one of these can you possibly build a engine mount for a 200cc lifan engine for a sportsman flyer
I source the parts from various places. Since the nation wide supply shortages, it’s been a little tougher to find some parts but most of them still pop up on eBay, Amazon, MB Rebel, and a few other suppliers.
I don’t have a link right now. I have ordered them off eBay before but most of the suppliers have been out right now due to Covid. However, I’ve been told that some should be available the beginning of 2021. As soon as they are, I’ll post the link.
Great engineering and mechanical design...but...your welding needs work...and cold be dangerous if it breaks i would start with a gasless mig setup very cheap easy and basic.. bikes look epic, absolutely stunning.
Some of the early designs used welded sprockets and I had a tough time with finding a sweet spot to weld two different types of metals. The newer design doesn’t require welding and has performed flawlessly for me. Thanks.
