Good morning from Egypt! Today we board our Nile River cruise ship that we will be spending the next three nights on as we sail from Aswan up to Luxor! We started our morning off with the most amazing views from the balcony of our hotel room at the Movenpick hotel on Elephantine Island, right in the middle of the Nile River. We could see the city of Aswan on the east bank, and the start of the Sahara Desert on the west! Our first adventure of the day was the Philae Temple, located on yet another island in the middle of the Nile. Amazingly enough, this temple was completely relocated after it found itself partway underwater after construction of the nearby dam. On our way to board our cruise ship, we stopped by an ancient granite quarry where there is an unfinished obelisk still sitting amongst the rock hillside. After boarding and checking into our room aboard the Nile Style, we took a small speedboat out on the Nile and cruised between the many small islands in the river! We take a quick swim in the Nile from the beach and climb through the Sahara sands to the most epic viewpoint of Aswan. We finished our day off with some amazing local food at Makani.
