I purchased one of these in mid 2019 and had nothing but problems with it. The creaking became so horrible I took it back to the store 4 times in total. On the 4th occasion I said I'm not taking it until it's sorted. Two weeks passed before I could collect but they had put a brand new frame on, a Hollowtech Comet Crank set on. The upgrades seemed great but I found the creaking came back within only a few miles. I was loosing the will to live but the constant creaking was driving me crazy so I decided to look into it myself. I decided to take the forks out and the semi integrated setup had no grease on the bearings, completely dry. I packed the bearings with grease and assembled it all and wow, I love the bike now. I think this is the unfortunate problem with Halfords, the service and skill level they provide isn't always at the level of the more premium line of bikes they try to sell. I can't fault my upgraded bike now apart from I do agree with the comments of the brakes being a little weak.
My creeking is coming from my bb but the 3rd week of getting the bike the cones went loose and my brakes are really wierd they never stop rubbing even after countless times reseting it
Just bought this bike today, but have to wait until it’s delivered on Friday. Great review and I changed the seat as well to a gel seat. The stock seat looks like I’d be sitting on a razor blade.
Most seat's need time in the saddle to get used to them, gel as to much movement and can make matters worse, better option is fizek or Spoon !hope this helps.
My wife as the lady's version she loves it I have the 8.9 that I've heavenly upgraded as I ride most days, this amount of riding the set ups on it didn't last 12 months the frame is second to none most on my bike now is race Face and hope + upgrade cassette better chain and hope wheels fitted with maxxis tyres, yes the only Boardman part left is the frame ,as I've said is a fantastic frame.
I use muck off dry lube in the dry weather and wet in winter, clean your drive chain and running gear before every application this keeps everything running well!
13.6kg it is. I have the same one and work at halfords so its bang in for what I need it for. There are better bikes but if you want start mountain biking without using something crap or silly price.. this is spot on. All the lads bike at work and we all being going trails and I just starting it and yeah... this bike does me perfectly on hills jumps etc. Its spot on for 700 ish. Good review.
I think you may find Kevin that your take on what the clutch is for is wrong, the clutch is designed to tighten up the chain for going over bumps and preventing you're chain falling off.
Hi mate, great review, seat is no issue as my road bike seat is harder, however brakes i agree on. Did you manage to change to shimano calipers? If so which did u use and were they better? cheers
Hey I also have the bike and I'm trying to find out the weight of the frame because it's not on the website. I want to know for upgrading the frame. do you have any idea on what the weight is
I'm going to view a used one next week. 29er mht 8.6 mens. Bought in November lockdown by the chap selling it. He's asking £489 for it. Very little use. Is it worth it?
@@iestyn.w8919 this is a ace bike but so is the bizango to be honest though if I was you I'd save up another £300 and get the Boardman 8.9 but you can also get a brand new 8.9 off eBay for about £600 so I would go down that road
Do you recommend buying as I want a new bike I have a carra vengeance right now and had it 2 years so is this a good bike to buy for wheelie on and jumps.?
Thinking about buying the new 2021 . Quick question though is it a tapered head tube as I can't seem to find the answer and I can't see one in the flesh
Hi mate I no longer have the bike but the fork thru axle is 15mm by 100mm if I remember correctly you could upgrade but quality should be fine many thanks
Hi mate if you want to put the seat right low down you may have to cut this because of thebeond in the frame on the upright bar the Bernd stops the post sliding down many thanks
I have the yellow one 🥺😊!.Great wee review btw. One question...the tyres are tubeless ready with those horrible presta valves. Apparently they're a howling nightmare to change on the trail if you puncture. Hasn't happened to me yet , but sounds a pain. Rim fit is impossibly tight allegedly. Any thoughts ?
Piece of cake to change on the trail; I had it happen to me a couple of weeks ago. Just used two tyre levers - took me 10min start to finish. I've got the yellow one too 😎
Hay up mate in my eyes the bike is set up fantastic there's is nothing on it that needs a day one upgrade get some dmr pedals maybe V12 version 2 and enjoy you could go tubeless tyres never done it myself but from reviews of everyone else they say it's great
Really easy to change tyres, I'd probably try chain reaction cycles or planet X, hope this helps, tyres that come as standard on the bike are good tyres in my eyes though mate.
i think you would pay a bit more i paid £800 but that was brand new in last couple of years used bikes have gone up in value id expect to pay £650 - £700 for one in excellent condition
Hi mate, I'm looking for a new MTB and intend to use it as a commuter. I find hybrids boring. I live in London. Is this bike suitable for city/road/street riding? How are you getting on with it? What are the pros and cons since owning it? I'm looking at the new 2020 version in bright red. Many thanks for the video 😉🙂👍🏼
You can buy a brand new radion suntour for £100, please tell me what rockshox you can buy that’s better for £100 and I’ll buy one, you know obviously know nothing about bikes.
