The first few times I played this EP I didn't realize it was supposed to be played at 45rpm, so this is the version I got embedded in my brain. Now I can't listen to the original without it feeling off :( When I first realized that my digital copy didn't sound the way I expected it to, I thought I needed to adjust my record player speed, and ended up adjusting it into oblivion, which I didn't realize until I put in my copy of "The Sting" soundtrack. Big 'ol bruh moment, right there. Took me a bunch more fiddling to get the 45 speed back to just right. still, it's wild that it sounds so good slowed down
There's a 33⅓ version of Rings Around Saturn by Photek, to be found on YT, which I also love. My pal Jarkko gave me a mixed tape he had done of drum & bass 45s played at 33⅓. No track listing, no name. I called it Slow Speed Dubbing, and I have listened to it, and more specifically the first ten minutes of it, 10s of 1000s of times.
Always listened to it this way or not at all. For years, whenever someone asked the question "what's a bad BoC track?" this is always the closest answer that came to my mind. It's much more enjoyable slowed down though. Play at 1.25 speed for original speed w/ lower sound.
Hmm I see where you're coming from, I don't find the original bad at all, just that the "scintillating" synth lead is a bit (I'm not quite sure how to put it) dizzying? Dazzling? Head-ache inducing at the pitch it is in the original? But it's still very pretty and sets a very unique mood, which is generally what I expect from good music. To be honest the only tracks I would consider bad would be nlogax, which is technically one of the old tunes so it's not entirely fair to count it, but I genuinely find that one a little irritating and almost always skip it, and *perhaps* uritual, but even then it's more that I find the atmosphere unsettling that I don't want to listen to it unless I'm in a very specific mood. In fact I listened to it now and actually I think I love uritual. It's very stark and evocative. So I'll nominate Red Moss cause the repetitive bit at the end makes me feel nauseous (in a bad way, like a bad acid trip). But I bet if I put it on now, I'd like it. Or get something out of it. I'm procrastinating for an essay right now so I have a lot to say hahaha.
