Boards of Canada is like a trip back in a past that never existed and yet existed somwhere. They are so unique. The more i listen the more i get addicted. For me track 15 from side B really sums up the whole spirit of this album. An absolute masterpiece of electronica!
I feel incredible now - been listening BoC for 3 years, found this release for the 1st time, because it's not available on Spotify. And it's over an hour of BoC stuff I haven't heard yet! Made my weekend.
Oh you'll find probably another half of their catalogue not available on typical streaming sites. Dig up all their remixes as well, that is at least another two albums of material there. Also dig up the "Web Loops".
thats because it isn't available anywhere, it was never meant to be available anywhere, someone somehow copied all of this stuff onto a tape somehow, somewhere. more intriguing because the "few old tunes" tapes were given out to friends while the stuff on this tape wasn't given out to anyone
B9 59:56 is my absolute favorite track on this album... THAT is the 101 sound!! For full effect drive a jeep with the top off on Canadian HWY 97 through British Columbia in October.
It actually had no official "release", in 2004 it was leaked onto the web. Although not confirmed, it's also possible that it could be the "Old Tunes Vol.1" of the Old Tunes Saga. Which is a collection of songs the brothers made from 1985 to 1991. So actually these songs are much older than 20 year's.
Right, I understand that, what I meant is that "Random 35 track tape" could very well be a part of the "Old Tunes" saga. Which obviously consist of Old Tunes Vol.1 and 2.
I got bitten by the Boards of Canada bug as soon as I heard Sixtyten played during their first ever John Peel session back in 1998. There are some real gems on this compilation
Still after all these years nothing comes close to their music (and believe me when I say that I'm a guy of many genres). Hell, it's even hard to put it into words what their music means to me.. I'll just simply say that discovering their music is one of the most (if not the most) life changing experiences I've ever had in my 21 years of existence. They're truly beyond unique.
1:04:09 If there was one song I'd love to see BoC revisit, it would be this beaut. Love the build up and the tonality, just needs a second stanza and chorus before fade out. And could be cleaned up and adorned with some other loop maybe. But the layers of melody in this track are just lovely and compelling. Puts me in a clever hopeful mood every time...
this mix is my favorite of all time… best early demo tape of any band I have ever heard.. this takes me back to wandering down forested trails and backwoods on hot summer days with the sun rays shining through the pine trees… also the weirdness of the 90’s
This means a lot. I remember finding this on someone’s index web server in like 2007. My jaw dropped, it felt like finding gold, since I only knew of the main releases at the time. Cheers.
My favorite is the track at 1:00:00 what ever its called, its awesome! Loved the video someone made of it as well, old time dancers. Just great stuff, listen over and over again.
Going through the comments....I can't help but notice how many different tunes are peoples favs! Everyone has a different favorite. This stuff is awesome. And I too was amazed at how old 5D is. These guys created everything that's new....20+ years ago. I don't mind that pop culture is stagnant; it's just wearing itself down until it comes around to BoC
