If you are going to go back in time to see this show, make it count. Discretely patch into the mixing board and record a clean version of their entire set. Then upload it back onto RU-vid when you get back and post the video link here.
I spent the first few minutes wondering to myself what words were being said. At first it was unintelligible and I almost just accepted it as part of the beat. But as I strained my ears a bit more, I realized that it was saying "You're focusing, you're focusing" It caught me off guard bc I totally was focusing on understanding the lyric. These guys are the personification of genius
It's only identified as "Audiotrack 07" from the "Live @ Warp's 10th Birthday" set. The list is as follows: 1) Zoetrope 2) Happy Cycling 3) The Color of Fire 4) Telephasic Workshop & The Smallest Weird Number 5) Aquarius 6) 1986 Summer Fires 7) Audiotrack 07 Great set!
i was at this gig and it was amazing. boards of canada, squarepusher, autechre and aphex. me and my mate were so lucky to get in. it has been with out a doubt the best party i have been to. i did not know who autecher were back then a i did not like what they did but love them now. squarepusher did selection sixtine set. and apex finished it all of. but back then you could see aphex most weeks. the light house party and warp 20 were good but this was something special.
This is indeed an excerpt from the BOC set at the Warp 10th birthday concert. You can find the whole set online if you know where to look. Amongst the audience chatter, the same people's voices can be heard in the other tracks. It actually goes quite well with the tunes.
i have had every BoC recording and this one in particular for a long time. this track is my absolute favorite. im not even sure why. thanks so much for putting it up here so it can be shared with others easily! and i agree, as far i know this is untitled.
I went to this show too, I remember the bouncers were VERY heavy handed about even smoking spliffs but it was an amazing night - overlooking The Millenium Dome too, which was nice
Wow, just randomly found this, I went to this event at the Truman Brewery I managed to blag tickets from a guy at Warp in Sheffield, Gruff from Super Furries, most of Mogwai and the Hatrnoll Brothers were there, much of the night was sketchy though, for obvious reasons.. thanks for posting!
@toalla1 I see what you're getting at but imo ae songs like Bronchusevenmx24 and Vietrmx21, and some gescom stuff, absolutely have brought a tear or two to my eyes. Surely BoC is easier to connect to etc. but whatever man, lets just enjoy the makings of epics from these artists :) About this specific tune, today is the first time in a looong while I listened to it - again, just WOW.
+Gillian Andrews Yes, that is the best way to get this tune downloaded to your life. Machinedrum cleaned it up very well. Wash. Rinse. Repeat as necessary.
wow, this is a breath of 'fresh' air, even though it was 12 years ago!!! Sounds really good, apparently BoC are coming out with a knew album according to some radio DJ that claims to be friends with them... i really hope so, yeehhh and I hope some of it sounds like this, love it ;; )
Definately Boc and it was the warp 10 party but it was 1999 not 2000. Saw these guys at ATP 2001 and at the Warp lighthouse party. Unbelievably good. They have a habit of making tunes that they play live but haven't released. I reckon with Warp buying their back catalogue this stuff will all feature in a box set at some point!
definitely sounds like "condescending condescending condescending" and then "the one and only, the one and only, the one and only, (HI!)" regardless of what it is, i know my life would be complete for about a week with these unknown tracks released. especially spiro
There was a report on BoC that an album was in the making for the second half of this year, they have families but making music is still fulltime for them.
No wonder they never play live, they probably realize that too many people talk and aren't really giving enough attention. Then again they do apparently hold their own Red Moon parties and I can't imagine it's all silent with people staring dead straight as the brothers play their tunes. But it's probably more personal there. Can't imagine feeling to great seeing a bunch of people drinking and talking over music that is more meant to be taken in and appreciated than talked over =p
Must've listened to this one a hundred times over the years. Seriously epic jams; find the mp3 if possible. Quality is already bad enough without being run through youtube. 'One, two, three... and four!'
@bobbygnosis Ae sleeps on the lap of BOC.. Each of them has its own style, but personally I consider that Ae possesses a futurist and inorganic point of view, in Ae there are neither nature or tranquility, ther's just brighted steel, plastic and any stones... Boc is a pure and harmonious peace, beautiful peace in wave forms!!!!
@attheedgeofthewood In my mind at least, dubstep is simply an amalgamation of preceding artists like BOC and Aphex Twin. It is a shame that the true electronic pioneers won't get the same commercial recognition as say Skillrex. It'd be really interesting to know what artists working now will make such a marked influence on the future of music. My money for now at least lies with Flying Lotus and everyone over at Brainfeeder.
I wonder how influential BOC was to dubstep or maybe this track was influence by the early sounds of Dubstep 2000s was the starting period when it was becoming less 2 step dark garage and more like half steppy. Because I defiantly hear beat structure of someone like Mala or Distance or any of the early guys.
I really don't remember where I got this from. Probably soulseekd it, but it's in a folder named "2000 live @ warp 10th birthday" and it's listed as the seventh and last track in that folder. On bocpages, I just found this: ...they contributed two exclusive tracks to Warp's 10th birthday celebration albums which were released later that year. The new (at that time) songs played, would be this unknown tune, another one (#6) and zoetrope, which was 2 be released on IABPOITC
This sounds like something else. Though such hard inflicting drums/snare sounds uncomfortably unlike boc, as does the speed. Though at the same time it does sound incredibly boc. i like boc
I have this as a BoC download. I'm not entierly sure, but the samples suggest the kind of motive operandi au BoC. That said, whether or not this is BoC I [F]ing love it. If it is not I would like know who this is [rhetorical/literal]. Yeah, this does sound like BoC to me.
Firstly thanks for uploading. How did you come about finding this audio/event. Some information about Warp and the event would be much appreciated! Also 0 dislikes the way BoC should be :)
Word is, they are gonna play soon for Warp20! keep an eye on the website, they're pretty much keeping it hush hush right now (just for a change) i think it is highly possible though!!
@attheedgeofthewood There's a Fourtet interview where he mentions how so much of what's considered "new" in the London electronic scene has been done before. I'm not against the recycling of old ideas however. I think artists like Flying Lotus, Shlohmo, Burial, Zomby, Gold Panda etc are all forging new ground while paying their respects to the pioneers of "electronic music."
