Why Curiosity2
Self-Reliance + Sustainability = Freedom
Self-Reliance: To rely on our own resources and limit our need for a marina or fuel dock.
Sustainability: Thinking about what we do today and how it will affect next week, next year, the next decade, and so on. It’s the recognition that we’re all part of a living system and that everything we do impacts the world around us.
In other words, we want to be out in the world living and exploring for as long as possible. Both in terms of not having to worry about our resources or our habitat disappearing. It's practical, not political.
And we know we're not the only ones seeking this kind of freedom because we have you! Our community of like-minded people we've been having this exact conversation with for the past decade. It doesn't matter if you are in an RV, Tiny House, Sailboat, Motorboat, Homestead, Farm, Ranch, or Off-Grid Island Resort...at the end of the day, we've all connected over our love for nature and our desire to be in it.
This new HH44 is the continuation of that conversation and desire. This is not the ultimate, all-time perfect eco boat or zero-footprint anything. Not even close. It’s the best option that we could find working with viable, available solutions. It’s the type of innovation we want to support, encourage, and see way more of.
We're super stoked about getting into the world of Performance Cruising and hybrid electric sailing with our new HH44 catamaran. HH catamarans have a reputation for building the best luxury performance sailing catamarans in the world. And now this is a brand-new boat designed from the ground up with solar, hydrogeneration, and electric motoring in mind. Add in our rain capture system and we have the ability to be off the grid and explore incredibly remote and uninhabited areas for months and months at a time.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
WE’RE JASON AND NIKKI WYNN. A couple of modern-day documentarians, perpetual travelers, and seekers of tall tales.
We’ve been chasing our curiosity around the world on wheels and keels since 2011. Why? Because curiosity is the key to unlocking life. It pushes us outside our comfort zone, softens our assumptions, and helps us embrace the great unknown. The more we let our curiosity lead the way, the more we discover about ourselves and the world around us.
Our home is also our transportation and we spend weeks away from civilization and sometimes land. Self-reliance and living a sustainable lifestyle are a must. It's all about managing our resources and we’re always looking for new and better ways to do so.
We've lived off the grid for over 10 years now in everything from a Van to RV to a Sailboat. And over time we have learned a lot about renewable energy, creating safe drinking water, and managing our waste.
Our journey is ever-evolving but the mission remains the same: #CultivateCuriosity

Gelcoat all the way as it's MUCH easier to repair and if you decide later that you wanted a wrap, it would serve as a great base for the wrap, while the reverse isn't the case...
@BubbasWorkshop
@BubbasWorkshop Год назад
Gelcoat is the most universal and also lends itself to quick repairs. Your boat is already going to be extremely exotic I'd suggest trying to make everything else as common as possible to give you the best chance for repairs or help no matter where you're at.

Yes, the vinyl wraps do fade over time, but the nice thing is if they get _too_ faded you can peel them off during a haul-out for whatever reason. And they'll give a small amount of protection to the gelcoat underneath. As others have pointed out, you can make minor repairs to the gelcoat almost anywhere. Between your updates and the Ruby Rose updates on their new SeaWind I'm learning a lot about how a _GOOD_ boat is built!

My vote is Gel-coat. It's the cheapest. 2nd choice is paint. Vinyl wrap will look bad after a few years in the sun. What I'm most excited about hearing about is the solar-electric drive system. I really appreciate the update on the boat. We are almost as excited as you 2 are about getting it.

Best Advice is: select the option that has an "upkeep" that is in your "wheelhouse" whether that be paint, gelcoat, or wrap. Also what is best for ocean crossing, what has the best track record that gives you confidence. I can't say this enough, how happy I am for you both, this is such a big deal to see and the giddiness in your eyes is so heartwarming. One thing for sure, your new baby is a BIG Game Changer! @@gonewiththewynns I'm thinking about going back to rewatch your old videos so I can better appreciate the photography you two post! Some of those underwater scenes looked they were probably a thousand times better than what I could see. And a word of caution to you and your fans, ALWAYS GET YOUR FULL SPECTRUM OF NUTRIENTS (diet and/or supplements), STAY WELL HYDRATED, AND USE GOOD QUALITY SUNGLASSES!!! Cataracts alter your view of everything, making your world bland and dark and if you don't or can't get them corrected, you'll progressively go blind! Getting your diet right gives you the internal protection, hydrating yourself helps your eyes function properly, and LARGE sunglasses will protect your eyes from damage starting. Best of luck to you and your followers. 🥰

You have chosen a fantastic option for your second iteration of Curiosity and I would just say that practicality should rule the hull finish decision. I built a 42" trimaran (FRP) as my "grad school" project. It launched in 1976 and is still sailing all these years later and is still owned by my building (not life) partner. After sailing for 4 years I reverted to a land based life and have no regrets. The discovery of your channel brings back sweet and sour memories. Selling the boat was a "Sliding Doors" moment for me and your adventures are a pleasure to watch. As a couple, you have something very special and thank you so much for sharing your interesting lives. Your journey sets a wonderful example of a life well lived. I have respect and admiration for both of you and look forward to the shared experiences in future chapters. All the best to you both!

I go with the gel coat too. Their friends at Nautistyles, Victoria and Rico, has bought a Bering explorer yacht, which got a super yacht style high grade paint, but maybe you should look into, what that cost and also not least, what it weighs! Not suitable for a performance catamaran at all. On an explorer steel hull yacht, which deliberately has added weight anyway, it does not matter. Gel coat is the favorite on weight sensitive multihuls for a reason.

My thoughts as well. It's not about what's "best" or easiest to repair in a major shipyard. What can you fix or at least patch up in the middle of no where with a local island hardware store for supplies? @RiverWoods111
@RiverWoods111 Год назад
@@dantoddruns That is what I was thinking. If it were me, I would go with a Gel coat since there is not cost and you can personally patch it if you need to in a remote place. Then I would pay the extra to have it wrapped in a super cool design, and make sure I have extra vinyl to also be able to fix little scratches. It will protect your gel coat. I am a firm believer in wrapping brand new cars or new paint jobs even if just a clear wrap. Okay, the artist in me would never do just a plain wrap! The artist in me would have a super bold wild artwork wrapping my boat. At the same time, if my wrap needs to come off at some point and I am not ready to pay or there is no place to have it re-wrapped to have it replaced then at least I would have gel coat underneath it so it would still look nice till I am able to sail to a big enough place where the wrap can be reapplied. I am about to buy an older Motorhome and I want to wrap it, but I want the original paint to be okay just in case it takes me some time to get it wrapped or the wrap gets damaged, and I need to peel it off and can't get in to get it wrapped right away. I also love wraps because if a car decides to open its door into my rig/MH/car it isn't going to ruin my paint underneath. So even if I love the paint on my rig, I will still wrap it in clear vinyl. I will hate the paint on the MH because RV manufacturers hire the worst designers one could find (in my opinion). RVs have some of the worst paint jobs as in pure ugly, and horrific interior designs I can imagine. One reason I want an older one is so I can redecorate and afford to wrap it. #artistlife

This really is super exciting! That is going to be one sweet ride ;) Not sure about gelcoat vs paint... It would depend a lot on the type of paint and if they add a clear coat. But, you may want to look into ceramic coating the freeboard sections and the underside of the bridge deck. That will go a long way to protecting the surface. It is pretty easy to apply but the product is a bit expensive. I've done several cars and, more importantly the wheels and dirt and grime easily washes off. Anyhow, just a thought. So super excited for you guys! F

@Major Old Lady aka, Mom, please keep in mind that the Wynns have a huge international following, English is probably not the primary language for many of them, and it's not an easy language to learn. Even if that comment was made by an American, what's most important here is a shared love of boats, sailing, and the Wynns: perfect grammar not required. Curious Minion

Obviously being a new boat the maintenance will be lower but what kind of jobs do you expect and what jobs will you be glad to see the back of? Oh and we love seeing your excitement! It makes us even more excited to see that episode when you finally board your new boat. It’ll be epic! 🤗

Great images! Nice boat that comes together there! And it looks like things are progressing faster than I did expect! Curiosity 2 - or whatever you will call her is going to be a beautiful boat and I'm pretty sure she will very much be what you want, given you don't want that much more than what you had in your first boat! Looking forward to watching you go there and accompany some final steps of the production! And especially I am looking forward to seeing how your whole electric setup is going to work! Also, somehow I feel another collab with RubyRose coming up at some point - probably when both teams have sailed a few miles on their respective no. 2s you could go back and look at your discussions a few years ago and find out what has changed in your views ... or something.

As far as how the hybrid drive works you may want to reach out to Matt and Jess at MJ sailing. They just got back from the Max cruise factory and your system seems to be exactly the same one as they had on there.. In addition, it’s amazing how many channels are in the process right now of building catamarans. There’s you Ruby, Rose, MJ sailing sailing doodles and I believe there’s at least one more that I’m forgetting right now.
