It starts with one thing, that leads to many problems! This video shows how quickly things can go wrong when you launch and one issue leads to another. This happens to even the most experienced skipper. Its how we deal with these problems when they arise that shows a truly good skipper with nerves of steel.

Absolutely, this is what our training prepares us for. its easy to comment unless you have been in a similar embarrassing situation like this, I have (many times), it sneaks up on you when you don't expect it... Probably going to have videos on my mishaps soon when I'm eventually back in the water. This is the whole purpose of these vids and this channel. As skippers we wait for something to happen and whatever we can see or watch we try learn from (while cringing). I always have this local saying ringing in my head, there are two types of skippers that surf launch..ones that have flipped and ones that are going too😬😬

@@leemccullough558 Lee thank you! Please note that I value comment and opinion and I encourage it, especially from very experienced people as yourself! I would love you to share more stories and opinions going forward! Thank you for joining from Mighty Australia, I grew up watching the original... the one and only... Malcolm Douglas! One of my bucket list adventures is to get to see the Australian coast mainly the west coast someday. Giving my age away 😬. I grew up on the wild coast here launching boats solo from 14, cracking on 50 now I wish I was still as brave as I was back then. I too have done many such experiences in the sea, from Sailing, to working commercially on cruise ships, to fishing charter etc. Even helping other charter companies get off the ground! (some just drink too much, real pirates 🤣) Unfortunately times are hard since this covid thing and now I'm stuck on land making videos with incomplete boat projects for my own charter business sitting dormant in my yard 😪. But my love for the ocean will never change, and I have some change of environment soon so hopefully I will get to share some new experiences and adventures soon! I think its time you started sharing some of your stories too! even if its slideshows of photos or anything, its time maybe you told your story!

@@Salty-Squirrel thank you sorry for late reply as my eldest has been in hospital this week and thats taken precedence over all shes ok now i like your story i would love to come over there its so unique and wild also on bucket list do you know st lucia petrus and pardette and lisa seberini fity shades of action rocky point and are you near them i also look at their videos ...a lot so my advice would be on the charter work if you could get one good boat going and start earning even if you had to sell a few things then rebuild your buisness that way ive had to do it to keep myself afloat and it hurts but at least youll be back in the game most chater boats here are 30to40foot and not many smaller as they are moored in calm waters and access the sea at river or bar mouths my.history is with trawlers at one point we owned four the biggest issue was fuel tje fisheries and reliable crews other than that it wad great very addictive lifestyle too i am retired now and have a 5metre boat we fish with in the rivers and mainly oceaneast coast australia it serves the urge to fish at this point in my life and we do ok with mates who also have similar boats we usually go out in tandem which is safer one question how much is your ran currency compared to the aussie dollaranyhow wr will talk some more look forward to your rply regarfs leeroy aus 😊😊😊😊😊😊😊

As Fitzroy said boat needs a skipper, he was turning around on waves he didn't need, to and plowing through one's he should of Avoided, then skiing down waves, your better off taking a wave head on then skiing down it, it is the best way to roll over

He looked like he didn't know anything about setting in on a rough day as soon as they was getting backed down. He should have put the motors half way down so he can start the motors, lucky they didn't flip the boat or sink right there on shore. He looked like he could drive pretty good doing what you are supposed to do. Then he must have gotten scared. You don't get scared with 10 other people on your boat. Also they needed a bigger boat for that many people. That's way over to weight limit for that boat

What a muppet of a skipper, unbelievable, putting those people at risk he shouldn’t be in charge of a boat , positioning that boat side on to the waves and then stern on , Better get someone who knows how to approach waves

Looks like the engines not starting and getting into a bad situation early rattled the skipper he turned away 2 times when he had already been through the worst.
@Salty-Squirrel
@Salty-Squirrel Месяц назад
Well the owner of the boat had serviced the motors a week prior, when the skipper was ploughing up the beach a lot of sand was suck through the impeller and apparently the motor went into limp mode. Otherwise boat and skipper still going strong.

@johngoodell2775
@johngoodell2775 Год назад
while it may seem like the captains skill at the helm. The design and configuration of the boat is bad for beach launching....a v-bottom skiff overaloded overloaded with people and too much motor weight hanging on the transom is a bad recipe. Maybe he had motor problems but the set up is still no good.
@petervanbalderen7877

Looks like a hectic day to launch, but did he lose power because of the sand in the engines.
@Salty-Squirrel
@Salty-Squirrel 2 года назад
Not too bad of a launch, with the exception of the shore dump. This is where the problems started as he wasn't able to clear the shore dump. Secondly crew and charters were not ready and to react in time to clear the boat of the shore dump. I'm sure at least one of the motors did suck up sand, overheated and went into limp mode. This I assume! When this happens its always wise to have crew keep an eye on the tell-tail when having to plough through the shore break., very lucky he still has his gearboxes!
@doogiehounslow1160
@doogiehounslow1160 2 года назад
He had no drive because the props weren’t in the water. With that much weight in the boat he needed more water, deeper props, more drive. Water intake in the sand is not a problem, modern outboards can run in sand without too much problem. We do it constantly in surf rescue.
@hawkers94

@@Salty-Squirrel surely it would have had enough cooling and not overheat regardless in such short time?
@Salty-Squirrel
@Salty-Squirrel 2 года назад
It's hard to say as these are newer motors, but I have had cases where sand gets sucked up so quick it blocks the cooling chambers, especially if the motors have never been thoroughly flushed. Plus over time you get a bit of build up. I regularly strip the cooling jacket and give it a God clean, as well as using salt-away flush when rinsing the motors. So it can and has happened with other motors. This skipper was literally farming there for a while and most likely sucked up enough sand to possibly block some of the chambers🤔
