Another Ytube cruiser, can't remember who, got a 30 gal flexible water bag, a 12v diaphragm pump and 20-30' of clear vinyl hose. Empty bag goes in dinghy, fills up at a dock, comes back to boat , attaches hoses to pump and bag, gets power from battery in dinghy and pumps water into sailboat tanks. I think they anchored out a lot. Cruiser friend of mine left New Bern NC about 2.5 weeks ago, sailing south using ICW and offshore. Got to N FL recently and was in mid 30's this AM. Sounds like much colder where you are in NC. Keep warm!
One piece of "lost" technology that most eastern cultures still use, but westerners have forgotten - the yoke. If the terrain is such that you can use a cart, do so. Wheels are great labor saving devices. But if you have to lug full Jerry cans more than a few yards, grab your boat hook, a couple of lengths of line, and a towel for padding, and rig a shoulder yoke.
I lived in my RV for 7 years in three of those years I lived on a farmers land with no running water. I don't know if all libraries were like this one but I got my water from the library
