Building drawers is one of the harder furniture things to do right. Shelved are easy, cabinets are kinda hard, drawers are hard. Lots or precision required and on a boat, precision doesn't really exist. But alas, its is time to quite procrastinating and get these drawers built so Jessica has somewhere to put her clothes!

I did the samething on our Lagoon 380 back a few years ago. I took doublesided tape and taped 3 mil plastic on the curve of the hull. Then took poster cardboard and glued it to the hull shaped plastic with west epoxy. After it kicked off I removed it from the hull and had a perfect shape for the back of the drawers. I then beefed them up with some fiberglass mat. After measuring the side angles, cut them to the size needed on a table saw. I built the frame for them to slide and all that stuff, but the back side of the drawers were the sanded and painted pieces I cut from the hull shape and they fit perfectly up against the hull. No wasted space and a good snug fit.

Great work! You guys are lucky you both are so handy and able to do all this yourselves. Honu is really looking good, next year's sailing will be more comfortable with all your upgrades. Thx for posting these, it's fun to watch.

Looks good well done. I guess all they will need is some sort of a latch so that they dont pop open when sailing.

Don't use a level. You could have used the framing square. I'm waiting for your updated video tour of your boat with all the upgrades done. Nice work.

just to add a cheeky comment....metric is sooooooo much easier to work with !!! no math beyond adding 2+2 ... there is a reason everyone on the planet, other then 2 country in the World use it ! just give it a go....2+2=4 ... its that easy :)

looking good. Are you going to put anything across the middle of the shelves to keep books and things from falling while on passage? Or is that more of a monohull issue than a cat issue?

Ryan put a fiddle on the shelves. Will test them out when we move the boat again and see if any books fall off. If they do we will have to add something. :)

Just out of curiosity, I noticed you’ve left St. Johns Yacht Harbour. Do you leave via the Wapoo cut or exit into the ocean via the Stono? I’ve heard the Stono entrance isn’t sailboat friendly.

As a rule make drawers 1 inch narrower than the opening. The DRAWER SLIDES are normally 1/2 inch thick each. Also make the drawer fronts separately so you can install them evenly and spaces to your liking. Good job otherwise.

Probably veneer them when he's finished building everything.

@@jandradventures Ha ha, that really does not answer the question. Veneer with what? If wood, that will still need painting or stained. If with some other thin material (such as melamine) then this would answer.
