These videos are fantastic! Thank you Jeff! Your clients are lucky to have such an attention to detail kind of expertise in their area. (Hard to find someone of such knowledge or care in the midwest)

Thanks for sharing your wisdom. Jeff. My 450ah sailboat has a charger and I'll be adding an inverter as a separate device but your talk was very, very helpful for me. I now understand principles of safety and operation that were mysterious before. Appreciated!

Hi Don, thanks for the feedback.

Great video. One advantage I can see of dedicated chargers is for anyone who travels the world. A high frequency charger can work on 50/60 hz.

PAcific Yacht Systems which inverter/chargers do you guys recommend being the best in quality & also what company will stand behind and do repairs? I own a newmar 1800IC and Ive recently got overload issues that it gets randomly when there is no load on it and newmar will no longer repair them...BTW your description of the modified isn't totally true. Ive had a modified wave inverter for a decade on my boat and it ran tvs, toasters, heaters, microwave ovens just as well as my NEW MAR 1800IC which cost me over 3k..Also the modified literally cost me 150 dollars. It could take the same load as the NEW MAR 1800IC which cost 3500...

Fantastic video! This should be required viewing for all boat and RV owners. Do you have another video, or advice on how to select an inverter/charger? I'm considering the Xantrex or Victron 2000W unit for a 200Ah Li battery bank and a 200A to 400A solar.

Hi Rick, both Xantrex and Victron make really good inverters.

Hey Rick which one did you go with? Ive read that the xantrax and victron units are considered high frequency and not low frequency like the magnum or the new mar models. They mentioned they are not as good in quality and will not last as long as the low frequency ones.. Also if you pay attention to the weight of them the low frequency are like 50 pds and higher while the higher freq ones are much lighter...Anyways PAcific Yacht Systems which inverter/chargers do you guys recommend being the best in quality & also what company will stand behind and do repairs? I own a newmar 1800IC and Ive recently got overload issues that it gets randomly when there is no load on it and newmar will no longer repair them...

Is this a good analogy : To think of Volts as the calibre of a bullet, Amps as the muzzle velocity and Watts as the penetrating power...?

Hi ColGadarby, dont' know too much about guns but that sounds right.

No. Volts is electrical pressure, so that’s closest to the chamber pressure in the gun. Given the same weight and caliber of bullets and same barrel length, this would correspond somewhat to muzzle velocity. Amps is flow rate, so that’s ounces of lead out the barrel per second. Watts is power, so that’s ounces of lead times muzzle velocity.

Horrible analogy. Absolutely horrible.

I am installing a Victron Multiplus 12v 3KW on my boat with a separate lithium bank that I was planning on isolating from everything else on the boat, ie not tying the ground from those batteries to the ground of the boat batteries. As long as I have the case ground for the victron tied into the hull ground, am I ok? or do I still need to ground the batteries as well?
@PacificYachtSystems

Unless you have a very specific reason for not having a grounded battery bank, even Lithium battery banks need to be grounded.

@@PacificYachtSystems So in that case, Can I 1) just run a negative cable from the batteries to the case ground, since I already have the case ground ran to hull ground distribution bar? Or is that wrong? or do I need to 2) run an independent negative cable from the batteries to the hull ground and ALSO have case ground run to hull ground. I've looked at so many schematics online my head is spinning now.

An stupid question Can I connect a power strip (4 outlet+3usb) with a total 10amp in a single Ac outlet connected in an inverter?
@PacificYachtSystems
@PacificYachtSystems 5 лет назад
Hi Andre, yep you most definitely can. As we know, you'll be limited to only 10 amps of total circuits.

The posting of these videos is greatly appreciated, but the lecture needs more organization and detail. The talk rambles and needs more specific re-cap breaks with breakdowns for a range of the five most common boat scenarios.
