Oke this got my shocked. This year i want to replace my flooded lead battery ASAP. Thinking to choose for lifepo4 litium iron fosfate, most safest battery in my opinion.

Question: When i charge a litium lifepo4 battery with my engine alternator, the alternator wil get damaged. Can i protect my alternator with a DC to DC regulator?

Hi FirstChoice, since Lithium have such high ability to take a charge, standard alternators easily get overburdened and burn out. The solution is to get a heavy duty continuous duty alternator.

I know this is old but you don't measure your useable power in Ah but in kwh because Ah is only half the story 500Ah at 12v is 6kwh but at 48v thats 24kwh 4 times the available power but still the same Ah. Also when your trying to work out power consumption a kwh is universal regardless of voltage

Hi Shayne, battery monitors and batteries measure capacity in amp-hours, hence why keep with the unit in the marine world.

Lud·dite /ˈlədˌīt/ noun 1. DEROGATORY a person opposed to new technology or ways of working. I’m no Luddite, just able to make a personal decision between “wants” and “needs”. We have cruised many years and many miles without refrigeration. Personal choice to have a simpler vessel. Simple means less breakdowns - thus more relaxed time on the water.

I enjoy your videos, but will say that I'd rather see more how/what to do than the results of what not to do. Stories are fun but folks are looking for practical how to. I'm sure I haven't seen all your videos, but many I've seen dwell on the "don't do" I'm trying to be constructive.
