Day 10! Today we left Portsmouth Virginia and headed for the Great Dismal Swamp. We had a awesome time in the swamp and ended up docking for the night in Elizabeth City North Carolina.
Yeah!! Finally, Adam on camera, big part of the trip, good to see him on camera! You guys rock! Been sharing with all my buds. Doing what we wish we could do, but life has us tied down. Keep em coming!! From Texas.🤘🤘
So good to see that people are friendly and respectful in the US still, seems to have gone from the rest of the world. Especially where I am from! Let me in!
I am so tickled that yall came through the Dismal Canal and recognized our little slice of heaven!! South Mills NC!! Our home makes a brief showing when yall pan around :)
I’m a little late to the party and just discovered your channel. I grew up on boats in Europe and watching you guys takes me back to my youth living on the water. Keep up the good work and don’t stop sharing.
Well, watching your videos reminds me of me when I was your age. I am 69 and cannot believe I made it this long! When I was you age I was hitch hiking all over the United States. I just said to, "Hell with it and went for it" No RU-vid back then LOL, Lord the stories I could tell ya. All I can say at this point is just "Keep going for it" Believe or not I retired when I was 55, have two homes, debt free, worth over a million dollars, not even sure how in the hell that even happened. Just good common sense I guess and a good woman. I am at this point, about as happy as a man could get. My advise to you, keep a good head and keep going with flow......
I really liked your comment and advice for these young guys. I am close to an early retirement I hope, so I can do more of the fun stuff I did before work and life became too serious. Restoring a sailboat now to be in the water in summer. Glad they are taking a trip like this, life is too short so follow your dreams.
Cool going through that lock and skinny waterway. I'm pretty sure it's the tannins in the water that causes the color - Very neat following you! Love it! Great drone views!
Thanks for the trip down memory lane. In the mid 2000's I ran a tri-cabin cruiser from Naples ,FL to Burlington, VT on Lake Champlain with my youngest daughter as my only crew. I took this route also. Dodged 10 tropical depressions and one hurricane and a couple down bursts. Not bad! Hellva cruise. Fair winds to you.
Hey, loving that boat trip series. Made me fall behind my telework duties. ;) Wish I was out there with you all. Thanks for making my desk job bearable.
One of your videos landed in my suggested vids this morning. Very interesting. Miserable cold and rainy day here which is the perfect excuse to binge watch, and I'm up to that task. Trip so far looks like a blast, thanks for sharing.
You are definitely on a very good adventure. I fished out of Portland Maine most of my life, and never had the opportunity to do what you are doing. I envy you. Good luck and calm seas.
This is a great series I haven’t seen one like it before. Also cool you came thru my home town Portsmouth Va. the entire tidewater area is pretty unique. Thanks for sharing.
I love the Dismal Swamp. Missing the cruisin’. Thanks so much for sharing. So many great memories are being made for the rest of your life. My Dad did 13 round trips Oyster Bay, NY to Ft. Lauderdale. It’s so fun for me to see it all again. So glad I found your channel. Last trip was 2018 just sold his Albin this past May.
Great videos! I started watching them a few days ago and am watching every single one of them, following your journey! I hope you keep them coming I think I’m living vicariously thru you guys! Lol. Brad, from Palm Harbor, Fl. 🤜🏻🤛🏻
Thank you for the video. I helped assemble the modular military bridge you passed near Balahack Rd and flew the drone over. My family farmed on the West side of the canal years ago. Good memories.
Looks like you found a good weather window for the trip. Nice fall colors. The tea color of the water is caused by tannic acid from decaying leaves. Quite common.
Hi Adam and Gus.. Just watching your wunnerful videos. I was in Sea Explorers and rowed from Norfolk to the Coast Guard Base in Elizabeth City three years in a row. The color of the water in the 'ditch' is tannins from the trees.
I see the college added a few more straight in docks since we made that stop in 2019. We looked for someone to thank for the dock space but there was absolutely no one there when we stopped for the night . Such a great place to stop for us because a small storm came thru with some high winds and lots of rain that night which would have been a challenge at the city docks. We plan to stop there again on our upcoming Greatloop trip. Keep the videos coming.
I'm a truck driver I used to have a route twice a week that would take me up to their I look forward to stopping at the rest area that is right on the swamp next to the swing Bridge across the water from the swamp is a museum that will tell you all about it it was importunately Dug and built by slaves love visiting their I hope I get to swing there again one day the little Museum is very educational thank you for posting
Hey! So on the Avg day I will cruise at 1300RPM, EACH engine will burn about 2GPH at that RPM doing about 8KTS. So total fuel burn at 8KTS is about 4GPH so a full 12 Hour day will Avg about 48 Gallons. However, when I step up the speed, that number increases alot. For example, on day 6 I picked up the speed to 16KTS at 2200 RPM for half the day, and that day we used 120 Gallons
Elizabeth City marina is famous for its welcome hospitality for boaters coming from out of town. I think during the summer, they give out free refreshments (alcoholic too).
Every wonder why people are so nice more south you go ? Respect , honest , regular hard working folk not trying to be something their not. we moved 27 yrs ago from Mass. I'm still smiling.. great run guys thx.. Carry-on By the way where y'all- going ?
The only thing I find disappointing is that this is the last of your videos to date, now I have to wait until you upload more, this has been a wicked awesome fast paced trip. I hear ya on fuel burn when you push it up , we run Detroit Diesels 671TI and they can be hungry if I run them hard , we usually run at around 1000 rpm and have similar burn rate as you at around 9 mph or 7.8 knots, when we make the trip it will take us a lot longer because I am a cheap bastard and don't want to go broke buying diesel to make 90 mile days we'll be happy with 20 or 30 mile days. Adam is coming out of his shell..lol. waiting patiently for your next upload, thanks again for your work posting them.
Hi there! just found you guys! Wifey and I are loving your videos, just the right amount of everything. We are curious though, what make and size is your boat? Fellow mechanic/dreamer here, one day we hope to do something very similar. I love how positive you both are, can't wait until the next video, please keep them coming!
Interesting channel, I'm familiar with the area so fun to watch, but the constant camera panning not good, need to consider getting some mounts and not doing everything by hand held.
Sweet time...If you just shot this trip how bout giving us temps, etc...you're in a T shirt can't be too cold...but weather sites saying 40s around Dismal Swamp, yes? Just a couple ideers: vary the music to fit locale...and hold the shots longer to avoid herky jerky...motion sickness lol. Say what's the drone you're using? Pretty sharp images. Following your trip...stay safe and enjoy.
Nice trip thru the Dismal! Did you bump and submerged logs? Oh yeay, I was thinking "Pull Up, Pull Up, Pull Up" and then I saw the "Oops". The drone still flying? Keep on Keepin on!
I had been boating since young, 8 or so years on the ocean, but this was my first twin engine, straight shaft boat. So I surely learned a lot, google answered a lot of my questions! Also the ICW cruising forums, and talking to experienced cruisers!
Great job on the videos. Your boat seems to be a very good choice for your travels. Any chance of you selling her to me? I think I’d like to become a Looper. I look forward to more of your videos. Keep up the good entertaining videos.
