Here's our previous video leading up to the floor repair! All for Nothing .... Total Loss 30ft Racing Boat ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-aBdkjr6iKR0.html Have you ever seen or done a repair like this one? I replaced a transom on an old semi V fishing boat, turning it into a ski boat. The Plywood in the transom was mush. I was 16 when I did that. First and last time I did that large of a glass job.
@WillFixThat
@WillFixThat Год назад
@@jimcooksey4150 yup that’s a big job too! Many of the projects boats we looked at needed a floor or transom … we skipped over them until we just found this nice one … it’s coming soon.

I think that access to the tank is rotten F/G and the screws are not holding any more. That was a good "temp" fix. 5556 will hold up pretty well. Again you guy s are the best.

Living in Florida all my life and owning boats, I have seen this issue many times over the years. 68 years to be exact. So many fiberglass boats suffer from terrible construction flaws.The advice to sell this boat is a good one however it has to be at a large discount, pity new owner.
@WillFixThat
@WillFixThat Год назад
Exactly at a huge discount and disclosed preferably! Yes manufacturers are in a hurry to complete boats then all these warranty issues happen because they didn’t take their time to make sure. We see brand new broken boats!

Putting the aluminum in is just a bandaid. You've still got all that water in the floor. You fix the one part and you'll have to put a bandaid on another area later on and sometime down the line, you'll have to replace the floor. I'd get rid of the boat and bite the bullet. To bad, nice boat
@WillFixThat
@WillFixThat Год назад
Yes that’s exactly what we told the owner! This floor is extremely temporary & not going to solve the rotten issue! Water is still going to go into the deck! That’s why we put a disclaimer - would not recommend this!

I bet that aluminum was over $1,000 in materials alone. I have seen people in my marina buy a boat and never get a survey because the boat looks nice. Then they find out the decks are soft or the transom is rotted. I would never buy a boat without a GOOD survey. A guy in my marina bought an older Sea Ray and has been chasing electrical issues for two years now. I am curious how long the SeaDeck lasts.
@WillFixThat
@WillFixThat 5 месяцев назад
Aluminum was a few thousand… seadek normally a few years depending on if it’s in the sun! Always get a survey! 👍 boat dreams can end fast with a soft deck or rotten transom. It took us like 7 months to find our project boat.
@joecassara1870
@joecassara1870 Год назад
I think I would have backed away from this one. This is just asking for trouble down the road. That floor will get worse. did anyone ever find out what and how the floor got that way? Is water still getting in there?
@WillFixThat
@WillFixThat Год назад
Thanks for watching Joe! Well hopefully no trouble down the road! We fully disclosed to the customers this wasn’t the fix! The owners some years ago had a new fuel tank installed & they didn’t repair the floor properly is the idea that we all have at this time!

I would just be afraid that the substructure rot/softening moved into the stringers. Sorry but I would open the floor and do it correctly. The materials are not that expensive, it’s the labor…. I could do it for a few thousand on my own. But the boat would be down about 6-8 months. Definitely worth it on that one.

I know you're in the business to make money, but pulling that console is a 2-3 hr job max. Most of the wiring is harnessed easily for removal. Once it's pulled, the console pulls off easily. Then I'd cut the entire deck off by cutting around the perimeter leaving about 3-4" to fiberglass a butt joint. You put a wood floor back in it, fiberglass it for strength, then seadek it over. Should take no more than 4-5 days at 8 hrs/day at $200/hr.... 8-10k max.
@WillFixThat
@WillFixThat Год назад
We’ve done a few of these jobs in the past and the wiring under the console took a lot of time to label every wire to connect it back later! We charge time and material so … whatever it takes! We gave an estimate from past experiences!
