That was no lady! They were quite the exhibitionists, they seemed to be enjoying the attention - especially when she looked directly at the camera as she flipped him off...
We had a narrow boat for 9 years but after covid so many idiots had bought boats we sold ours , we couldn’t believe just how quickly they had ruined the peaceful nature of the cut.
The divoced 4 times couple remind me of when me and the wife went camping once and a couple in a nearby tent had a pissed up row. Everyone was mentioning it in the village pub the next day. Classic. Nice relaxing video. Thanks
It always amazes me how new/novice boaters don't get that boats do not handle like automobiles. hull weight & speed, current, wind, engine power, how a rudder works, traffic, and waterway clearance all seem to be items out of the chapter that they didn't bother to read. Throw in a little alcohol and an attitude of entitlement and it is a very good thing that the UK has better control over privately owned firearms than the US.
I know a guy who has been married 4 times and he is the loveliest bloke, never goes looking for love but always gets found, usually by an attractive woman with underlying issues that soon develop. I missed his last wedding, sent a note saying sorry “see you at the next one”.
I heard you narrate saying “Tickover” about barges going too fast. My American parents rented a barge in England and had a wonderful time. They told me they were told to go at tickover speed. They sail a small sailboat and know how to handle a boat. More people should try tickover.
@@NarrowboatSuperB Didn’t know about the town but I do understand what tickover speed is. When the engine says Tick O ver Tivk O ver Tick O ver. right??
You are so right Martin, none of it is put on, it just happens. They feature in one of my earlier videos "Narrowboat Vloggers" and the commentary goes something like, " Running out of water, nearly falling in, lost drone in a tree" the list is endless but they are great fun to watch and very entertaining. Thank you for your comment.
Always approach a dock as fast as your willing to hit it. I work on the river in Stratford upon avon. No boater has any idea about the chain ferry having right of way being hand cranked. And if the boat says holidays on the side of it then give it a wide berth
I Love you and your last comment, Full refs and steer it into those bushes !!! ,thank you for making me burst out laughing. i always thought boating was relaxing.
i have driven a small boat 1-2 times. so not much experience at all. but even i know, when you approach something (lock, mooring,..) you do it slowly. a boat has momentum, you can not stop it like a car. i think some people forget (or don't know) that.
You can stop a boat quick. But it's not a good option. I once came into a dock dead of night. I was going very slow. The dock was about 2 inches away my friend was impressed. Put it in gear take it out. Rinse repeat. Slow and steady. Rule #1 of boating. Don't rush. And rule #2 don't let anyone else rush you. Focus on the task until the engine is cut. 👍 BTW reverse does act like a break. I almost got thrown from a boat cause I wasn't ready for it but knew it was coming.
@x5x, that's because you were brought up to 'think' intelligently about consequences (to others as well as yourself) before you act. Unfortunately, you're up against too many folk who were dragged up to think only of themselves.
Great video! That fat old cow yelling in that dispute was the best😂 you know shes the next to go😂 shes obviously # 5 he can move on to nunber 6. Maybe he will get someone better
Maximum steering without wasted flow is achieved by goin back to tick over, centre tiller, then up the throttle wait half a second or a second then push the churn if its easy to push tiller then you pushed too early. If you just hold it full tilt its clearly pushing churn both ways if you look back at the churn. So from full tilt at high revs go back to tik over push tiller back to centre up throttle wait a second then turn the churn You can repeat this and your turn will be much more turn and less forward wasted energy
I am a new boater but I am absolutely mystified as to how the blue boat in the lock mounted the lock gate and pointed at the stars …how do you do that!!!!! On second thoughts ….I don’t want to know.😮😮😮
The boat hasn't mounted the lock gate; its through it by a good 10 feet and gate is open. So whilst the boat was partially out of the lock, someone has opened the bottom paddles and drained the water out of the lock and the pound above, though why anyone would want to do this on purpose is beyond me! However, I did once have half a sheep stuck on the prop and had to go into a lock heading 'downhill', get the boat stuck on the cill and drain a bit of water out of the lock, then attack the sheep whilst standing on top of the cill. All in all, not one of the most pleasent episodes in my life!!😁
I think that the guy in the blue boat ramming the gates probably couldn't get the levels to equalize due to leakage at the headgate paddles, but there are better ways of dealing with it without wrecking the gates.
I could have given you one from inside our boat that was really bad but we are swearing really bad on it. They damaged the boat and paintwork the whole length of it. This was on the weaver where it’s huge - so how he hit us I’ll never know!
Another American in the PNW, I concur with your statement. My sailboat is also my home and I've seen a lot over my lifetime. Especially the last 15 years as people who have money have bought their first boats often in the 40'-50' range and no boating experience, no wonder our insurance rates have skyrocketed! Money definitely doesn't buy brains or manners. One of my favorite boat broker stories of a pandemic boat buyer was a couple was buying a 50' Selene twin screw trawler, when the one spouse asked, "why does it have two engines ?"
Slow down and reduce steerage when passing oncoming traffic shows his lack of knowledge. Revs and water flowing past the rudder is a must to maintain good steerage. Wait until you try that slowing down trick when navigating past large moving vessels!
@@NarrowboatSuperB You do get the odd clown who own their own vessel without knowing anything but they are few. It's almost impossible to bareboat charter without an RYA accreditation or an ICC.
There's quite a few on the Solent. It seems a common occurrence that someone in a big Sunseeker will deliberately power close past sailing boats just to send everyone on board flying with their wake! Had that happen to me on the same day as witnessing another one playing unintentional bumper cars with the other boats in the marina!
Close. The white cottage next to the bridge at 5.15 belongs to Matthew Corbett, well known to us kids of the 80's as the wrangler for Sooty the glove puppet.
Our third year with a "Weed"on Bec boat. Every year, we find that a lot of live a boards have far less boat craft and canal etiquette than we do. Got beached in the Bucky flight because of a pump failure and impatient live a boards forcing us to the side🤬
That boat that rammed the gates didn’t even attempt to slow down, in fact he keep the throttle going after he hit the gate ..it looked as though he was trying to ram the gates open and go thru without getting his lazy self out of his boat and manually open the gates…is that even possible?
@@NarrowboatSuperB Looks like Leeds Office lock and he can't have had the box paddles open. Our yard was next to this and was easy to do also trip boat uses it.
Really good question WHY?, that fool still had the boat in gear and throttle wide open as he rammed the gate and even then he still kept it in drive after wrecking them. Just WHY?
I remember ramming another narrow boat on the river Trent in Newark I'd just bought replica tug and the reverse lever came off in my hand as I selected reverse, fortunately there was no one onboard, I fixed the lever and made a swift getaway! ...
I used to work ghe manual lock gates in my teens for pocket money and saw a narrow boat bow sitting on lock gate whilst draining 🤷🤦 i informed hi. Twice of his problem but he said it be ok in a very arrogant manner 🤦🤷 the bow end then ripped off the boat 🤦🤷 he got angry and went below deck and started shouting at his wife 😮 some people just won't be told 🤭🤭
@@NarrowboatSuperB yep if only people could take responsibility for there own actions and be gracious about it the world would be a better place as fryer tuck said in robin hood prince of thieves "thank you Lord for teaching me humility " 😉🤣👍
@@NarrowboatSuperBit's not a pedal anymore. It's that big thing with a rope on it. Looks like a bent T stops a boat quick..... or is a cleat removal tool if you can't find your tools.
Never go boating wirh anybody who aint up for laugh....and as a fisherman who fishes the trdnt and mersey canal, you should see how many times barges ram the shut locked gates...it must cost severn trent a fortune in repairs.
