We thought cruising through Georgian Bay was the end of our incredible journey in Canada, but today's cruise shows, it just keeps getting better and better. A sunrise departure from Bad River, cruising between cliffs in Collin's Inlet, getting some legendary fish-n-chips from Henry's, and finally an anchorage that we dream about today. This is the North Channel!
Thanks for watching!
Cheers from the Loop,
Jennifer and Elliot

ABOUT US
Hi! We are high school sweethearts from Atlanta, Georgia who decided to take a year off to travel around the world. Together we decided to create vlogs for our journey as a fun way to remember it. On September 15, 2019, we left Atlanta with 3 bags, 2 one-way tickets, and 1 goal of traveling for a whole year. Little did we know, 6 months later we would find ourselves in a nationwide lockdown in India. After spending 5 months in India, we came back to the United States and decided to purchase a 34’ Trawler, dive headfirst into boat life, and kick-off America’s Great Loop.
The good, the bad, the ugly - and most importantly, the real and real funny. We’re not here to tell you “how it’s done.”, just how we’ve done it. And that whatever it is that’s calling you - the way you’ll do it is much more attainable than it may seem.
Thank you for following us along our journey!

Gotta nerd out a bit on the geology. Where this is is the edge of the Canadian Shield, a huge horseshoe-shaped area of hard granite that wraps around Hudson Bay. All the huge lakes to the west and the St Lawrence River are basically the outline. This rock formed about forty km under a field of volcanos billions of years ago, then everything but the granite got removed by erosion and glaciers. At the point where this video starts, the lumpy grey rock on top is limestone that was laid down on the seabed only a few hundred million years ago, and the pink flatter layer on the bottom is granite. The cliffs get higher because more and more granite is exposed, and it's a much harder rock than limestone. From here to the north and east, it's rugged granite mountainous terrain, while to the south it's flatter limestone bedrock that's mostly covered in debris brought down from the north by the glaciers. I consider this the border between Southern and Northern Ontario, and you've just left my neighborhood. Please come back sometime.

My husband was the prime geologist who studied Georgian Bay. He is featured in a documentary by David Suzuki if you are interested. His name is Nick Culshaw, sadly he died last summer. Georgian Bay was his favourite place in all the world and he had seen quite a few. From Antartica to Africa to Romania to parts of Europe. He calls Georgian Bay the "Louvre " of geology.

The fish is Pickerel or as Americans call it Walleye. Kind of funny you saying you don't eat a lot of fried foods. I think you meant deep fried. I have watched you cook and that frying pan with oil is your friend. Fried mushrooms, eggs, onions, peppers. 😂 you remember when you Passed Henry's fish restaurant on San Souci Island? I used to go there a lot in the 80's. They had their own commercial fishing boat, and only served Walleye ( Pickerel) It was all you can eat with sides. Just tell them if you wanted it fried, baked, or grilled. Now they buy their fish which is perch caught in Lake Erie.

We call them Pickerel. Americans call them Walleye. If it was Pike, the Fillets would be shorter to avoid the "y" bones. A good cook can make Pike taste like Pickerel. Cleaning Pike is really tricky cause of the "y" bones.

You guys did a fantastic job of documenting what it's really like in this area. The few Looper videos I have seen shot up here tend to go like: 'We started out this morning in Georgian Bay, our last day here, now we move on to the north channel. Made a quick pit stop in Killarney, ate some of the best Fish & Chips ever and after that we moved on to get anchored in a cove in the north channel," all the while just giving snippets of video quickly edited together and that would be about it. Not that this was a bad way to do videos, just that you guys provide more video of a place and give the sense that you all are "stopping to smell the roses" while many people are on a mission to just check off the punch list of their Loop trip stops. Great job Ya'all. You shot this on my birthday. Living down here in Florida as long as I have, NO WAY would I jump into 60 something degree water. For me, if it's below 85 degrees, ain't no way I'm going in that water. Plus, I've got about 30 years on you all in terms of age. At one time I'd have gone in that water, not anymore. It has as much to do with living in Florida. As Stephanie Abrams from The Weather Channel, who is a Florida girl says about Floridians, once the air temps are below 70, we are getting cold and bundling up. We sure don't go into cold water. Lovely video of a lovely place.😢
